The fact that Snape still managed understand which side was right despite being pushed to the other side by nearly everyone. It would've been so easy for Snape to see Lilly choosing and being with James as a complete betrayal, and he could've hated her for it. There literally wasn't 1 person on the good side that gave Snape a reason to be on that side. Obviously Dumbledore did, but that was only after he switched because, the woman who Snape helped to become a witch, who then pushed him away and went with the person who made his life a misery, the woman he loved, was to be killed. When James was bullying Severus, hanging him upside down in the air, and making wisecracks about dirty underwear Lilli's face started to crack into a smile as she watched James. (See the book.) Severus saw that, and was deeply hurt by it. That is why he reacted as he did, calling her "mudblood." She caused it. Anyone who has been bullied, who was basically alone, would understand that as betrayal. I have yet to see that mentioned in any of the recordings I've watched.

It is more complicated than that. One bad word did not cause the rupture of their relationship. Severus was used to calling muggle borns students as mudbloods. He was also friends with the dark arts crowd at Hogwarts almost all of whom became death eaters. Lily was the exception for long. James's bullying broke that exception. However, James did not teach the word to Severus. Besides if James had bullied another student who never used the word "mudbloods" , that student would never suddenly use it cause of humiliation. In Lily" own words "Slip of tongue? But you call everyone of my birth "mudbloods" Severus, why should I be any different " Read the books PROPERLY

I don't think Snape and Lily were ever supposed to be a thing in book five. There ws no forshadowing. She smiled because she was playing with James. Pretending to defend Severus to annoy James who she knew wanted to date her. Being coy or whatever they call it? That's why Severus insulted her. She was nothing to him. In the first book/movie when Dumbledore tells Harry now Snape can return to hating his father's memory he could've dropped, but he did love your Mum, or something but nope. Because Rowling indeed did not have that planned out. She added it before book 6 because Rickman was going to stop playing Snape due to finding the character unlikable so she knew she had to do something fast. The bit about him going to drop the character is an article online and the time line ads up. Just after ootp book and 2nd movie. Yep Severus and Lily were never intended to be anything which is far more logical cause you know Snape a grudge holding mother. LOL. Bella L

Sirius had issues with his family so a large part of why he was in Gryffindor was to spite his family. It doesn't mean that he COULDN'T have been placed in Slytherin. I believe he made a personal choice much like Harry did when he was sorted. So Sirius would still have qualities of a Slytherin (sort of like Hermione with Ravenclaw, another example).

The werewolf trick was the last straw for Snape. After this he learns that everyone on the light side don't care what happens to him cause he's a slytherin. Dumbledore for instance, swept the incident under the rug and only punished Snape, forced Snape to be quiet about the incident while allowing the marauders to talk about it. Lily, she found out her best friend's life was in danger to the point where he needed saving and instead of asking him if he's all right or anything like that or asking what happened, she brings up what his friends tried to do to her Gryffindor friend and the only time she brings up what happened to Snape was to gaslight him. Honestly I always think the werewolf trap is similar to the sectumsempra incident in Half Blood Prince between Harry and Draco. Both characters (Harry and Snape) had theories on their bullies. Harry had a theory Draco was a death eater. Snape had a theory Lupin, was a werewolf and the marauders knew about it and were being reckless with a dangerous creature. Both Harry and Snape followed them around, trying to prove their theories to their friends who didn't believe their theories. Both purposely went after their targets. Harry used the marauders map to find out where Draco was qnd went to the bathroom where he knew Draco was to confront him, while Snape listened to Sirius and went to the shrieking shack, finding Lupin as a werewolf. Both had good reasons for following them. Draco was a death eater, plotting something, and almost killed a couple of people. Lupin was a werewolf leaving the shrieking shack as a werewolf and endangered people, almost biting/killing people, plus the marauders relentlessly bullied Snape for years making Hogwarts hell for him. Only difference about the incident is, what happens afterwards. Harry isn't traumatised after the incident while Snape is, and on top of this, Harry wasn't silenced about the incident so he was able to tell his friends, Ginny and Ron were both in his corner, supporting him, while Snape was made to keep quiet by the headmaster, causing the friendship between Severus and Lily, his childhood friend to fade away as Snape wasn't able to tell her what happened, while Lily believed one side of the story without asking what happened.

I think Harry was a bit traumatized, but the fact he was able to talk about it definitely helped. And I don't believe Snap gaslighted him. (I could be wrong. )
@Allthingsasian3 жыл бұрын
The difference between Harry and the marauders were their mentalities. Sirius led Snape into the shrieking shack to ‘scare’ him and to intimidate him and James rescuing Snape was not for Snape himself but rather for Lupin’s sake. Harry however did not use Sectumsempra to intentionally hurt Draco or put him down, he didn’t even know what Sectumpsempra did and only used it as he heard Draco nearly shout Crucio. The difference is that whilst James and Sirius never really felt any semblance of guilt or comprehend the horror of what they nearly did, Harry did understand the weight of what he did, and whilst both escaped punishment Harry was extremely traumatised and guilt ridden for what he did to Draco. He had no intention of hurting him in the brutal way he did, whilst Sirius did. Just goes to show why Harry is so much more compassionate than people like Sirius and James.
@audrey21813 жыл бұрын
I don't think Snape's motive was that innocent. He wasn't tailling the maraudeurs out of some sense of protection for the innocents people of hogsmade. The incident happened during the sixth year, just after James publicly undressed him and just after he got into THE big fight with Lily. That year, he was alone, bitter, and hell bent on getting his revenge. He started writing his half-blood prince diary, and invented the sectumsepra spell (wich kind of show his thirst for blood). But he was smart enough to not confront the four maraudeurs together, so he tried to find their weakness to attack them where it would hurt the most (as any good slytherin would). Anyway, i think Sirius, who is kind of an impulsive idiot, got fed up by Snape spying, and tried to give him a good scare so he would stop to follow them around for good, without thinking his plan through. I also don't think Snape got traumatised by the incident. Beside his pride, who got scratched by being saved by his worst ennemi, i'm sure he got over it. (After all it was'nt one of the memory he showed to Harry) The levicorpus incident was the real trauma to me. Also, Dumbledore could not have punished the maraudeurs afterward, since he was probably not aware of their involvement in it. All he knew (in my opinion) was that Snape tried to uncover Remus secret and almost got killed in the process. And finaly, i think that incident played a big role, into James, and Sirius growing up.

Dumbledore passed that opportunity of reconciliation up when he just forced Snape into secrecy, while not only allowing James & Sirius off the hook, but letting Potter control the narrative around the story. Why else was Lily all of a sudden in awe at the usual bully James suddenly saving her friend’s life from “something that was completely his own fault”, while Snape, because of his oath of secrecy, couldn’t effectively counter that lie. Dumbledore would’ve been wiser to give the Maurauders some discipline as well as force James & Severus into some set of tasks that would require their cooperation, thus perhaps facilitating a sort of truce or peace between the two. Sure, Potter & Black were scions of famous families, but Dumbledore should have seen that Snape was a great prize to acquire for his future Order of the Phoenix, if only for his sheer magical talent, which was greater than any of the Mauraders. The Mauraders would’ve been siding with Dumbledore in that Wizarding War anyway, but Snape’s loyalty had to be won over. For someone who was supposed to be brilliant & once a peer of Grindlewald’s, this missed opportunity when Snape was a student under Dumbledore seems like a massive plot hole

The fact that James stopped Snape before Lupin (in werewolf form) could attack him, would be proof that even to James, Sirius had gone too far. It's one thing having a rivalry with someone, but to have their blood on your hands after a prank got out of hand, that's a step too far. Although Snape never really gave up on Lily, the damage had been done when, out of rage and humiliation at the hands of James, Sirius, Lupin and Wormtail, he call Lily a Mudblood and in essence burned bridges with her as it appears that she never forgave him, especially when he was already hanging out with those who would go on to become Death Eaters. She was right, why should she be any different, when his "friends" were going after people like her?
@denizkenger523 жыл бұрын
James saved Lupin, Sirius, himself and Snape that day. Consider the conclusion if it did take place. Lupin potentially goes to Azkaban for murder. If he doesn’t, since it something planned by Sirius and he did everything he could to avoid it such as go to shrieking shack, he would still have to leave hogwarts after the incident. It would ruin his friendship and trust, since his closest of friends just used his lycanthropy to murder someone. It would also make him even more insecure about himself, and if you’ve read the books, this was a major thing for him throughout, he thought of himself very badly and this would be worsened by knowing he killed Snape as a werewolf. Sirius would mist definitely go to Azkaban for setting everything up. James and Lily’s relationship wouldn’t have much chance. Lily was aware if what happened so knowing James’ friends killed Snape and James knowingly did nothing about it would change things. It may even lead to her thinking James was in on it, but all in all, this relationship would be ruined. Dumbledore could be sacked as well since he was the one who arranged for Lupin to attend Hogwarts even though he knew he was a werewolf. Therefore he took the responsibility and he would most likely be sacked for also endangering student lives and this actually leading to a death could mean he is sent to Azkaban as well since he did it without the ministry’s approval. I personally think James did know it was too far, but the reason he acted on it was not just for Snape, but to prevent the things I said above until Dumbledore, I don’t think he thought if that but definitely about his friends and himself.

@@SiVlog1989 there would be investigations after Snape is missing, everyone knew about him and marauders. I’m sure after a thorough investigation plus also Dumbledore knowing about Lupin and the shrieking shack, he would most likely figure it out. I don’t think Dumbledore would hide it if Snape died. Also, i think after investigating, the ministry would due research on marauders and would find out about Lupin being a werewolf, which would draw eyes to Lupin either way, and he would most likely still be expelled for endangering student lives even if it wasn’t proved that he did it. Also, considering Dumbledore was an accomplished legilimens and it’s mentioned many times that he would look as if he was reading your mind, I believe he would probably understand what’s going in from James and Sirius. And, Sirius may admit to everything to save Lupin from going to Azkaban if the werewolf thing is enough for the ministry to hold him accountable. Also, Lupin would still know he killed someone when he transforms back to himself and there’s blood all over the floor in the shrieking shack with potentially Snape’s wand and his ripped clothes from being torn apart by a werewolf.

"why should she be any different, when his "friends" were going after people like her?" -- Depends on what kind of friend Lilly really was to Severus I think. Lilly's character was not "fleshed out" for us. What kind of friend was she to him? By her words and actions she doesn't seem to be the kind of friend to Sev that he was to her. He was devoted, loved her. It's the classic story, he was not loved back. A true friend who loves in return would have put forth the effort to reach inside and pull him into the light. Give him friendship at least, the direction, the reasons, and the path he was straying toward could have been averted. She should have been different. Per the author - we know she tried a little; but too late. If she had been thinking of him and his future, and loved him, she would have given him time with her. But no, she was falling for James. And worse, it was a thoughtless betrayal of Lupin who would've been utterly horrified had he killed Snape. Sirius, as with James, fell prey to the great weakness of the Gryffindor: blind conviction. In addition to learning the whereabouts of Voldemort they were also searching for Harry. Frank as an Auror would’ve been a high profile member of the order to the Death Eaters. Lupin as a werewolf probably went into hiding. Sirius was in jail. Pettigrew was believed dead. Dumbledore, Hagrid, and Moody would’ve been seen as to much of a threat to take on. The only reason Snape probably went straight to GH is because he was in the Order so would’ve be let in on the secret behind the Fidellius Charm. Peter probably didn’t give the secret to any other DE just directly to Voldemort.

There are vampires in the series. There was the “voyages with vampires” book Lockhart wrote, and even though he is a fraud, the stories he writes are partially true, but stories of greater wizards/witches than himself. Also, Quirrell was said to have encountered a vampire and that’s why his class always smelt of garlic, to ward off the vampire if it even came for him. And Hermione thought a certain Lollipop in honeydukes tasting like blood was on purpose, so it was a sweet for vampires. I’m guessing people can be turned into vampires in this world because they are parasitic beings, so it would be similar to werewolves. I think this will be the best bit to answer you. According to W.O.M.B.A.T.s, which is the exam, vampire bites may be incurable. This means they certainly do have an effect, and I’m guessing it’s to turn someone else into a vampire, since it goes hand in hand with a werewolf bite being nearly impossible to cure in the full moon. But unfortunately there isn’t enough information given in the topic to suggest how a person becomes a vampire, by birth or bitten or any other way. There are a few examples of vampires, more than the ones I provided, so their existence is definitely explained but how they are made isn’t explained unfortunately.

Usually its the leaver that needs to fear for their lives... depending on the cult... pure bloods/dark arts types in HP world have a lot of similarities to cult members. How could you be a pureblood and not love the dark arts a lot will wonder? Sirrius' connection to bellatrix lestrange, I'm sure also played a part in the distrust of him while he was in askaban. Obliviously it was only a matter of time that his fascination with the Dark arts and pureblood surpremecy would win out... I'm sure they thought. We are all guilty of black and white thinking, but I think both Snape and Black were at f/head levels on the spectrum, and both made each other double down and stick harder to their own sides. In fact, making one another's own worst enemies. Neither had a great home life. Each blamed something as the cause muggles/pure blood mania and zeroed in on their hatred of such.

I'm not saying what Sirius did was right, it was undoubtedly very wrong. But.... Snape knew or at least had a very strong idea that Remus was a werewolf. It was a full moon. His worse enemy tells him how to get past the tree to the place he suspects Remus is. Why would anyone sane go into a place where a transformed werewolf was? Sirius didn't drag him there. He went there of his choice. - Snape knew or at least highly suspected Remus was a werewolf. - Snape knew it was a full moon - Snape thought Remus was in the shack (having been watching Remus) - It was around the time Sirius ran way. James and co obviously quickly forgave him. Personally, I think it happened something along the lines of. Snape had been stalking Remus and constantly going at the marauders about Remus. Sirius snapped and said something along the lines of 'If you think you are so hard, why don't press the knot on the tree'. Sirius thought it amusing and would get Snape off their backs for a bit. Maybe he would even get attacked by the tree, not thinking that Snape would be stupid/ suicidal enough to actually do it. He bragged to James about it. James panicked because he knew/ thought Snape was that revengeful/suicidal enough to actually do it. We don't see the immediate aftermath. We only see the effects twelve years afterward. Both Sirius and Snape had come bitter because of the War, Lily's, James' deaths, Azkaban etc, and hatred had only increased. If Sirius had bosted about it in the immediate aftermath, I don't think the Marauders would have remained friends with Sirius.

They were both evil pieces of shit in their youth. And to find out Peter, was even worse. As explained in the POA book, Peter was team Voldemort from the very beginning, he was spying for him. Remus John Lupin, was the only truly good person in the group, and he remained so when older. That is so sham, Severus exposed him as a Werewolf, causing him to lose his job. And more sham even, when he is later killed, by the so much better than him wizard-Antonin Dolohov that scum of a killer. Even from the movies, and especially after reading the books, I am team Severus. My favorite character R.I.P. BTW I hope both Dean and Morgan, had nothing against the chosen actors for the Marauders and Severus, other than their age when appearing on screen. Because the four actors: David Thewlis (Remus) Timothy Spall (Peter) Gary Oldman (Sirius) And Alan Rickman R.I.P. (Severus) were magnificent in my eyes. Each actor nailed it in my opinion. The actors for James and Lily didn't impress me sorry.

James: I don’t you don’t care about what we do me and my friends but you should be happy you’re alive you could’ve been dead in that second if I hadn’t come in to get you out, you should be grateful but if you don’t then fine but don’t expect my friends to like you I think your good person and I feel bad sometimes when I bully you and there’s no good reason why I’ve bullied you for over a few yrs at Hogwarts which is why I’m sorry but you need to understand that it’s not all my doing it’s Serious’s but I know I shouldn’t lead from his example and I know it has hurt my reputation here and known for doing not so great things to you and I’m really sorry pls take this into account on my doing I’m very sorry Severus and I won’t do it again.

I don't think Sirius was really thinking about the consequences of his "prank" . He was a very lonely boy, his family mistreated him even worse that Snape's family mistreated him. Siris was erased from the family tree, he was basically abandoned... He had very little guidance, and the rest of the Marauders were not the best example for him either (in comparison to how Ron and Hermione were a good compass to Harry) if it wasn't for the Potters he could have ended worse. Also, Sirius was murdered before he could even consider apologizing to Snape, which I think it would had happened at some point, because Sirius was already considering to became a better example for Harry as his godfather. Just please don't make Snape the innocent victim here. Did all Potterheads just forget that Snape was a bitter boy since a young age? That he resented that less talented people had good things in their lives? Did all of you forget that Snape hated the Marauders since the beginning, based on sheer prejudice? He was the one who was disrespectful to them FIRST at the Howgarts express! Since that first encounter, he dedicated his time to stalk them and tried to get them expelled. He was actively trying to harm them, he was not a innocent bullied boy. The five boys entered in a war that only James had the courage to stop before someone ended up hurt. Snape NEVER acknowledge that it was James the one who saved his life. Not the Marauders or Snape ever apologized for the bad things they did each other. As an adult he did not matured like James and Siris, he turned to the good side motivated solely by VENGEANCE for Lily's death. He enjoyed humiliating little children that he considered less valuable and he was a big hypocrite with Hermione. He always implied that Harry was famous just because he was James's son, and in the contrary, Hermione was a hard working girl, who excelled in almost every subject, she was an example of hard work and perseverance but Snape humiliated her calling her a "insufferable know-it-all" Wow... just wow.. the man that claimed that talent ad hard work are the best qualities in a person now humiliates Hermione exactly for that.

First of all, we know next to nothing about Snape's background so I wouldn't say Sirius' background was worse because we simply don't know. Sirius wasn't living in poverty first of all. And was Sirius really thinking about being a better example? To Harry? Where's the evidence for that? He couldn't even admit to Harry that he was sorry for being a bully. And what on earth are you talking about saying Snaoe hated the Marauders out of prejudice? THEY are the ones who start picking on HIM simply because he wanted his friend in his house. In fact, James says a line similar to Draco saying he would leave if he was in that house. That's when the dislike starts. They then proceed to call him names, insult him and trip him up and continue to bully him in the years to come. Snape wanted them expelled because they were his bullies so of course he did. And Snape never acknowledged James saving his life because Snape didn't think he did it for a noble reason, and considering James goes right back to bullying Snape after this proves his point. Besides, Snape eventually acknowledges this debt by paying him back by saving Harry in the Philosopher's Stone. He didn't turn to the good side out of vengeance, he turned to the good side because he realised his actions had put his only friend in mortal danger, not to mention her family. And a man having a life like Severus Snape doesn't exactly shock me when it turns out he's a pretty unpleasant adult and teacher. He shouldn't even be in charge of the kids but only does so because Albus Dumbledore wants his best spy close and away from Azkaban. Not to mention a convinent new Head of House for Slytherin and Potions Master. And take one guess why the Half Blood Prince who invents his own spells and disregards old textbooks innovating them, not even using them in his lessons dislikes Hermione Granger, the girl who memorises textbooks. And even he recognises her cleverness, assigning the wolf lesson so she would figure it out and telling Bellatrix and Narcissa that she was clever and only reason Harry was still breathing.
