Yeah, he was sad until that moment Harry revealed to Voldermort that Snape had been loyal to Dumbledore alll that time after he decided to hunt down Lily, because of the one thing he couldn't understand, which was love. It's nice to know that in Voldermort's final moments he realized that "faithful " servant had totally played him.

I agree with both comments that have replied to this comment lol. Yes, in the moment he was too angry and too afraid to feel sadness. And indeed, I believe he wouldn’t have given a bat of the eye at Nagini’s death, rather that he knew that one more piece of his soul (which he had just recently come to know that Dumbledore and Harry had been hunting horcruxes) was destroyed

@@nathanrudd2327 Don't forget that regardless that Nagini was a Horcrux, Voldemort was shown to genuinely care for her, much more so than even his most loyal disciples. His relationship with Nagini would be a dark mirror image of Harry and Hedwig's relationship between master and pet. And since Voldemort was a Parselmouth, it should be fairly understandable that he would choose a snake to be his familiar along with the possibility of having God knows how many ancestors of his that might've had a snake as a familiar as well.

@@headstrongbachelor3152 he was definitely a manipulative bastard. But he also rewarded his death eaters who did well. He gave Peter a hand since he sacrificed his own to bring his body back. Here are the things that I think would have made Voldemort sad: 1) Killing Snape- He didn't want to kill him since he was one of his most trusted and valuable Death Eater to him, besides Bellatrix and her undevoted loyalty. But, because his lust for power and immortality was his greatest desire and did anything to achieve this goal, he believed Snape was the owner of the elder wand and thus he killed him to become the true owner. 2) Nagini's death- Voldemort had such strong feelings for her that he had not for anyone else. Nagini was the only living thing that he ever cared about. So, when she died you could imagine how outraged he was, not just because one of his horcrux was in her but because he cared about her. I saw someone mention Bellatrix's death but even though he did scream when she was killed by Molly Weasley and tried to avenge her death by trying to kill Molly, I don't think Bellatrix's death made him upset/sad. If anything, Voldemort's scream was out of anger that his best death eater and last death eater standing was now dead, and it was just him to continue on with the battle and to defend himself/fight for his life. Yes, he did value her loyalty to him and everything she did in his name, however he didn't care for anything except for himself and a little bit for Nagini.

I agree about that. I have to admit it wasn't my first thought. I was thinking about two things other than that, things that may have saddened him as well: 1.Discovering that he had "dirty blood" on his father's side and that his mother didn't try to prevent her death. 2.Seeing Bellatrix dying it says that he screamed in anger, shows that he valued Bellatrix no less than he valued Snape. But Lord Voldemort gave me the most sad moment in the story- The death of my favorite character in the HP franchise on which you were talking right now.
@daniels7907

My impression was that Voldemort's reaction to Bellatrix's death had more to do with the fact that his last horcrux had been destroyed, he was no longer immortal, and he was being pressed hard in combat by multiple wizards. He *needed* her because she was his fiercest fighter and her death proved that he too was in danger of dying (for real) in the battle. It was the reaction of a BBEG whose plans are ruined and whose minibosses were falling.
@tinagoldsteinscamander

He didn’t feel sad when he found out about his family, he felt dirty and betrayed. Because he saw himself as the best wizard in the world, that meant he should’ve been a pure blood, not the fruit of a relationship with a muggle. And I wouldn't call it fruit of a relationship because let's get real- What Merope did to him was a form of rape. He had no control on his actions. So while in the beginning I said to myself "What a bad father for dismissing his son." I understand his side as well, he didn't want any of this. And you are right about Bellatrix. Just seemed to me as another hard moment for him.

@@eranshachar9954 - Though the novels avoid bringing the topic of religion up, a typical Englishman in the 1920's would have associated witchcraft with the Devil, not with warm/fuzzy Wicca or happy fantasy media. So Tom Riddle Sr. running off and leaving his son behind once Merope released her magical hold over him was actually very in character for the time period. Most people would have regarded the child as demonic, which in an irony is kind of what he did become.

Interesting. I think that Voldemort had feelings deep down his cold and mercyless demeanor. But he just didn't embrace them for what they really were. Instead he let them show to the recipients as a display of "mercy" and "temporary forgiveness". Voldemort used people to further his plans. He spared the life of many as long as they were useful to his purposes (aka: Malfoy family and other 'fake deatheaters'). But he showed signs of respect for a small portion of wizards (Bellatrix, Snape, Slughorn). But maybe as he never had love shown to him and never knew love, only loyalty, maybe he thought that those feelings were the only ones the loyal actions of his servants could earn from him.

I wonder if dumbledore meant for Snape to die. Dumbledore planned his death with Snape and knew Voldemort would seek a new wand to defeat Harry. It was an unpleasant sacrifice of an adult to save a boy. Voldemort showed no willingness to fight Dumbledore and take the wand directly. Besides, how much worse would things have gotten if Bellatrix were the one to claim the wand?

This video states that to get the elder wand's allegiance you must "kill" not simply disarm (4:00). Then why in the movie would draco be it's master then subsequently Harry? And Nagini killed Snape - not Voldy. Okay, Nagini was Voldy's horcrux, but Harry also was. Voldy 'killed the himself' that was in Harry with the Elder Wand and Neville killed Nagini with Griffindor's sword... You don’t need to disarm or kill a wizard/witch to get the Elder Wand. ‘The Elder Wand decides its own destiny Mr Ollivander’s famous statement ‘the wand chooses the wizard’ rings just as true for the Elder Wand as any other. However, according to J.K. Rowling, there are some distinct tendencies in its manner of choosing: ‘The Elder Wand knows no loyalty except to strength. So it’s completely unsentimental. It will only go where the power is.’ This text was extracted from the Wizarding World.

Because then he wouldn't be able to do one thing he's solely qualufied for - seemingly spying for Dumbledore. None of the other DE had the character for that. After the latter's death he gave him important and authoritive (!) position - to raise young wizards and witches according by his design.
