we only saw You Know Who confront Morfin Gaunt about his parentage, and we assume that Morfin must have recognized him as the son of his sister in the end and tried to attack You Know Who, only to be overpowered You Know Who then stole Morfin's wand and snuck into the Riddle Manor to kill his muggle relatives, he probably revealed his identity to them before murdering them in cold blood then he returned Morfin's wand to its original owner and stole Marvolo's ring, which he turned into a horcrux

This victory for Voldemort was practically handed by his uncle. Morphin had every motive to do what his nephew did at the end, the only reason he didn't before was because he was deeply traumatized by his father being sent to Azkaban, so he zealously took care for years of the house and the ring. And because that wasn't the only incident between the Gaunts and the Riddles, the ministry had every reason to suspect Morphin, and it was helped by the fact that he gleefully relished every ounce of his implanted memories.

With the trace, its also like what happened to Harry when he met Dobby. It was Dobby who levitated the pudding (cake in film), so the ministry just assumed it was him and no one else. Another error with how the ministry was till after the great Battle of Hogwarts did changes start to improve.

it was said by Dumbledore that there were ways to get around the trace for underaged magic this was one of advantages of living in a magical household, underage magic will not show up on the radar, therefore, the trace only affected those kids who lived in muggle neighborhoods the more responsible pure-blood families would enforce the no magic outside of school rule at home for underaged children, but the more arrogant pure-bloods would ignore this rule and teach their children magic that was beyond their years

Tom had pretty much read everything about Hogwarts and its past, especially about Salazar Slytherin It doesn't take a genius to figure out he eventually discovered found out about the chamber from say, the Restricted Section.

So the ministry would have known that a murder took place in Little Hangleton, and that an underage wizard was nearby at the time. Yet they expended no effort into identifying this unknown person? 🤨 I understand that the authorities had a confession from Morfin, and the murder weapon in his hand. But the ministry making no effort to locate a potential witness, or as far as they knew another victim, shows the ineptitude of the magical law enforcement squad.

It is weird that Ministry never searched for this underage wizard, who was at Little Hangleton during the murder. They didn't know that Voldemort killed the Riddles, but how MoM has blamed Morfin since he was already over 40 years old and he couldn't broke the Trace? It has long been known that MoM are morons. And I wonder if Dumbledore knew from the very beginning that Voldemort was related to the Gaunts. Or how he found out about the Riddles murder. This murder was probably known in the wizarding world and Dumbledore could have found out about it from the Daily Prophet, after all, a wizard who had already attacked one of the victims was accused of it; the question was whether the Riddles were presented in the newspaper as nameless muggles or whether there was full information about their names. Another option is that some acquaintance from the Ministry, or a member of the Hogwarts staff, who also had contacts in MoM, told Albus about the mysterious death of the Riddles. Even though Dumbledore read Muggle newspapers, I think he read London newspapers rather than those from the Little Hangleton area, because we know that, for example, he found out about Frank Bryce's disappearance from a Muggle newspaper. It was only after the Riddles' deaths that he checked the Little Hangleton newspapers regularly.

They could know that magic was fired in the area, but they don't really know who exactly was, the ministry had to rely on the records that stated Morphin was the only wizard in the area, with a history of incidents against the muggle family the Riddles. Although with that magical technology technically Voldemort could have used his own wand and remain anonymous, there is a spell that the ministry uses to know the last spells a wizard used from a wand, so to fully frame his uncle and leave scot free, he used Morphin's wand.

If they put it like a locating jinx on the spell avada kedavra they could have easily have found whoever at the moment cast it was the murderer. Also if they're really top notch detective work they probably could have done a reading of the area with that skill that Dumbledore had where he could tell what kind of magic was used in the room.

I believe Voldemort may have been the reason the ministry started tracking those spells. There's no telling how long they'd been using tracking. After Voldemort's return, they were too scared to confront Voldemort and eventually the death eaters as well. If there was a tracking on those spells when Voldemort first used them, he definetely would've found a way to hide his magic use. Therefore, they would have even known the killing spell was used either. To cast avada at that young of an age would have been a ridiculous display of magic and evil. As for Harry, Umbridge knew that the only reason Harry would've still been alive was if he used the patronus charm. In fact, it was such a short time between the events with the dementors and the ministry taking action that Umbridge most likely had it set up to immediately punish Harry if he survived. Evil hag...

Unfortunately, I’m not sure how we would’ve got that scene when Voldemort confront his father. As the memory of the conversation between him and Moorphin was Morphin’s memory. Morphin wasn’t actually present during Voldemort murdering his father. Perhaps Harry could’ve seen it in Voldemort’s mind at another stage but I wish we had that conversation I would’ve been very interesting.
