He never puts the horse in a bind. If you cause the horse discomfort, it will not stand still for you . Also this farrier probably has clients that have horses that behave. Most people care more about their horse than the farrier. Like people who don’t make their dogs behave. Get good enough, you don’t shoe these peoples horses. Love watching this.

Loved the video I’m wanting to be a farrier when I’m older I’ve never seen a horse get its hoof done before 😁 I have a question do some horses be naughty? And try to kick they probably do but I thought I’d ask
@madisonandamira27233 жыл бұрын
Horses usually are not naughty, if they are misbehaving its usually out of fear, not being handled much, or they have flies bothering them and they are trying to get rid of them. Just normal horse behavior. But sometimes you will get a horse that is dangerous, never the horses fault though
@timothyjones19062 жыл бұрын
Yes they do. And those will be the ones you start with. Get better at it and get better horses. A good farrier can do 10 to 12 horses a day . Min. 65 to a 100 plus a horse. Good money hard work .

how do you stop the horse from kicking your chest in while cleaning its hoofs?
@Thatoneguy-ju6gq Жыл бұрын
Trust, a horse doesn’t want to hurt you so just move slow and don’t spook em, sometimes people still get kicked though and yes it does sometimes break bones, worst i ever got was from a mule that was spooked by a pheasant, my shoulder decided it didn’t like its socket so after som convincing i got it in place went home and decided it was time for painkillers and a nap, turns out a dislocated shoulder feels how you would expect a broken bone or dull knife wound would feel, a temporary moment of “ah….well shit” before you feel extreme pain that comes in throbbing waves

What is the difference between a professional hoof trimmer and a farrier other than shoeing a horse?
@Kodama8673 жыл бұрын
From what little I personally know, a farrier will combine the skills of both a trimmer and a blacksmith to shoe a horse.
@Chlo-ee3 жыл бұрын
Not all horses need shoes. A farrier needs the additional skills of a blacksmith to refit a horse’s shoes on top of trimming down the hooves. All horses need a regular trimming to prevent overgrown hooves. I’ve clearly spent way too much time on YT this year

How do you know how to shape the shoe without referencing the hoof?
@kristin1980uk Жыл бұрын
When you see the smoke, he is holding the hot metal shoe to the freshly trimmed hoof. By doing this, it leaves a very light surface burn colour on the areas that touch the hoof. That is then the reference as to whether the shoe is fitting snuggly. If there are no marks, on certain parts, that means the shoe it not properly touching all the way around, so needs heating and hammering again to shape precisely. They repeat the process until correct. But normally they can get it perfect in one maybe two times. In the UK to be a farrier you have to train for over 4 years, so there is much to learn before you can even start to be a farrier.

So what happens to wild horse feet? Is it like how remote or tribal people can be bare foot but like city people wear shoes type thing? Why do we put shoes on horses?
@Thatoneguy-ju6gq Жыл бұрын
City people and domestic horses dont need shoes but they do help prevent injuries, the difference is with horses an injury could be fatal where as with humans we just walk it off or if its bad we go to a doctor or just sit it out fir a while As for horses in the wild, if they get injured they normally dont make it more than a week or two as it cant keep up with the rest and a lone injured horse is easy for any predator like mountain lions or wolves so its rare to see an injured horse in the wild
