Update: Okay fellas, after this video was filmed a couple of weeks ago, we decided to do some more research on these shoes and found that they probably are NOT Florsheim Imperial’s. Instead, we think they may be Hanover’s. Hanover was another great quality shoe brand that was made in the US. They also made shoes very similar to the Florsheim’s that came with v-cleat heels. Again, we’re not 100% positive. We know shoes, but we’re not vintage shoe specialists. :) Anyway, we just wanted to let everyone know. Sorry for the possible misinformation in the video. Thanks for watching!

That seam on outside rear of each shoe is characteristic of many of Hanover shoes.
@DancingSpacePotato2 жыл бұрын
I own a growing collection of LWB’s and Hanover definitely did do the v cleat, but I think they were always inset. Florsheim inset their cleats starting in ‘73 I believe. This is my favorite style of shoe and while Florsheim is the heavy hitter and Hanover is another beautiful example there’s something about Knapp Bros that I like more. The fun aero insole and the sleeker last and some of the lines of the pattern are just more beautiful imho.

I have several Florsheim Imperials and some of them are shell cordovans. I also have a few Hanovers. And yes, the seam on the outside rear is there in at least a couple of my Hanovers if I recall correctly. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Hanovers I have, they are superb shoes. Of course, you did label the sole with the Florsheim Imperial logo, but that is really a minor detail. Thanks also for showing the level of detail that went into taking the upper completely apart from the sole and heel. I don't think I have seen that level of reconstruction in a video before. I love how he said “the reason why ladies” lol, they’re getting all upset about the hot cork… lol I come for the shoes. Yeah I’m a female, but I love watching men’s shoes be fixed, resoled and made. Idk why. I’ve Been a subscriber for 2 years now and you guys have come so far and are great cobblers! Much more than glorified hot cork spreaders..

Haha…thank you very much! We’re glad you enjoy the videos. I think a lot of people missed the joke behind the “the reason why ladies”. It was a quote from the movie “Old School” when Vince Vaughn says that to a group of guys.

The algorithm just brought me here and wow, memories. I grew up going to Catholic school in the '80s and '90s and had to wear dress shoes daily. Nowadays I wear a 9.5 H width from Red Wing very comfortably but for all those years my mother took us down to this independent shoe store that was the only place that seemed to sell wide shoes. Back then, Florsheim was one of the very few brands that made shoes that fit my weird feet. I seriously had no idea how spoiled I was getting with quality shoes when I was in elementary and high school. I love this channel and what you guys are doing with it- keep being awesome! I felt like I almost knew what I was talking about when I went to the local cobbler and asked him to resole my Allen Edmonds and they did an amazing job. Thanks again!

I remember watching my dad polish his shoes every Sunday morning before church. He had a pair of Florsheims very similar to these. He also did the books/taxes for the man who owned the shoe shop in the arcade in downtown Nashville back in the 80s. I remember him dropping off shoes for him to repair and picking up tax papers. Thanks for jogging old memories.

I come to KZbin for four things, 1) what can I learn from Trenton & Heath, 2) what deep dive restoration has Bedo gotten himself into on Bedo’s Restorations, 3) what knowledge did Chef John drop on Food Wishes so I can “casually” impress my wife with dinner later this week, 4) and how the hell does Cam do the things he does on Blacktail Studios. I’m never disappointed with any of them. I learned from a Master leather craftsman from Texas at Tandy Leather Co. back when they had a location in downtown Pittsburgh...that especially if you desire the deepest richest BLACK & especially on new un-dyed leather where you are using an alcohol based black dye - that you must dye the leather brown first and then follow up with the black. That eliminates that blue black look and gives you a true deep richer black. Try it. It's a hint that dates back over 40 years.

One of..the most memorable shoe I have seen is decades ago. They were a pair of pebble-grain brogues, probably Florsheim, similar to this, but I think I remember a thick, leather sole with a double-stitched welt. They were the shoes a friend's father wore, and he was a local bank board member. They were a lot like these, but with highre pepple definition and a super-stout, well-structured sole. My dream shoe now.

I’ve become a bit of a vintage shoe enthusiast. It’s amazing to me just how many vendors offered a long wing Blucher like that. Florsheim being the gold standard, but Hanover, Dacks, Freeman, J&M, and nearly every dept store brand, all had an entry in the category. Amazing that any shoe style was so prevalent. These look wonderful after your work. Will serve someone very well! Curious if the two of you have much in the way of design opinions on single sole vs double sole vs triple sole shoes. I hear John McHales were made as triple soles, once upon a time.

Old Florsheims are hard to beat. I have a pair in Shell Cordovan and man, do I love them. They are just rock solid, well made shoes. It's a shame that the Florsheim name is put on junk shoes these days. Also, you can determine exactly what those shoes are if you look at the numbers inside. If they are Florsheims, you can tell by the model number, and you can even determine where they were made and when. There are web sites with instructions for how to read that stuff.
