The point wasn't about whether or not that seth guy was ultimately correct about Chien Pao (this is an example of false equivalency); it was the fact that the guy tried to argue his stance by citing supporting evidence that didn't actually exist. Seth says Chien Pao isn't broken or banworthy, following up his statement with, "based on usage stats," and "top 5 mons." When you make an argument like that: saying that it's based on some statistical data or analysis, your average, critical thinking person is going to ask you to see your source to verify the authenticity of your data. Blindly accepting a person's argument just because they say they have a credible source is the fastest way to be susceptible to coercion, suggestion, and false rhetoric. As for the person making the argument who's saying they have statistics to back up their position despite not really having them, that's the quickest way to lose credibility and be ridiculed by others, especially when it eventually comes off as you trying to push your confirmation bias as well-supported evidence. Shofu asked the guy to present usage stat data; seth couldn't do it. Shofu asked him to list the top 5 mons he was referencing; seth couldn't do it. Keep in mind that this argument between Shofu and Seth happened after only a day of the metagame having come out. Shofu understands with his 13 years of competitive pokemon experience, that 1. You can't have strong usage stat data with a meta that's only a day old; 2. Certain mons rise up the totem pole of ban potential quickly depending on the playstyle direction of said meta game. That whole argument in the chat wasn't a product of echo chamber nonsense: Shofu had a stance; Seth had a stance. Seth made a statement; shofu asked him like any reasonable person to provide proof; seth couldn't deliver and started deflecting, which incurred the roasting. Shofu definitely had the stance that Chien Pao would be banned, and that very well could happen in the next two weeks potentially if it ends up making the current meta too centralizing or is just plain broken. Either way, constructive arguments should be made with evidence that can be verified and tested. Being right isn't impressive or commendable if your logic is faulty or the evidence for your argument rings hollow. If it ain't applicable then you being right was just by happenstance, which doesn't bode well for reliability or validity
