Oh I should probably mention - when deciding a time control to play on lishogi, I'd recommend 10 | 30 . Be warned that 10 | 30 is different to 10+30 in shogi, the difference being that | 30 means 30 seconds for every move once your time runs out. As a chess player, I think this is a good time control as you have more time to think on opening/middlegame, and then 30 seconds is enough to calculate the tactics in the endgame! Hope that helps!!

With shogi I feel every game is like an opposite castling situation in chess. Fun and ultra-aggressive.

Exactly! But since we're entering the game with our calculation skills alone, prepare for many headaches from the endless calculation ahead of us 🤣

@@ChessLifestyle haha, right, although with shogi I don't even expect to be able to calculate complex variations, so no headaches for me. :) As for your question if you should show your early shogi attempts, I wouldn't mind - I'd be curious too if it has any effect on your chess. Shogi made me sacrifice too much when attacking while Go made me look for strategy and blunder pawns in the process :D

Hi, it's nice to see some shogi 😀 i am curious how much you improved since you made this video. I believe as shogi is japanese chess, eery western chess player should enjoy to play shogi as well. Chess players don't begin from scratch when they start shogi, and catch up their chess level in shogi very quickly if they have enough interest in it 😀 and by the way, totally of the topic, but sente and gote have slightly different meaning in go game, it doesn't refer to any colour, but only to the one who has curently the initiative. Have fun and enjoy evry chess variant 😀

I released a second video about shogi with my game against ItsNyroc (I think around 2 weeks after I started?), which I also think was close to my peak strength :D I only played for a month or so, before getting frustrated with losing, and felt I should study more western chess xD but my tournaments for Western chess have just finished, so I'm thinking of getting back to some Shogi again :) my peak rank on 81dojo was 3rd kyu I think. Also I agree with your sentiment regarding chess/shogi, and loving the logo for your YT!! Best of luck with that!

I'm playing Yakuza. I am pretty sure I get the rules now. But I had no idea how much my brain leant on the shape of the pieces to alert me to threats. The fact that all the pieces look more or less the same to me makes it so much harder to keep aware of threats

Right, I definitely had an easier time since I know some Chinese (similar to written Kanji), but I'd say it shouldn't take more than a week of playing to recognise the difference. Your brain will pick it up faster than you think!

@@ChessLifestyle I pretty quickly got to the point where I could identify the pieces, but I have to focus on them to do so. With western chess, I feel like I can look at the board, and on a certain level, I absorb the whole board. It's a lot harder for me to keep track of everything in Shogi. It's kind of like the difference between being able to type but having to look at the keyboard, vs being able to type without needing to look at the keyboard.

I would be HONOURED (I heard you're a big fan of the ureshino opening :) I'm actually playing it every game myself and loving it! I either get blown to pieces, or I completely wreck my opponent haha it's good fun!)

since silver promotes to gold it would be logical to say silver is weaker than gold
@ChessLifestyle
@ChessLifestyle 2 жыл бұрын
From my experience at shogi now, I can give my two cents. In the promotion zone, gold is better, no question. But in the opening/middlegame, the generals simply have different roles, and it's very tricky to say one is better than the other. At least, that's how I see it :)
