Shogun: Castle Maids Ask Anjin-San Which Women He Prefers For Pillowing In Osaka Castle, Japan

Shogun: The Osaka Castle Maids (Lako-San, Asa-San, and Sono-San) ask Mariko-San (Yoko Shimada) to translate and ask Anjin-San (Richard Chamberlain) if he prefers women of England or women of Japan for pillowing. “Pillowing” is the term for the sexual union of man and woman. Anjin-San also asks for Friar Domingo to come and be an Assistant to Anjin-San, but he suffered a heart attack when his name was called out by The Prison Warden. Mariko-San then offers one or all of the Geisha Ladies for pillowing.

I enjoyed the scene early in the first book - when a number of women were bathing Anjin - and he got excited. He tried to get away, but they interpreted it to mean he wanted the old crone who was one of the bathers, when he made it clear he didn't want to "pillow" with the old lady, she was very disappointed.

I just finished the 24 hour part 1.1 shogun audiobook last night. Today I started watching the new remake on Hulu. The show is absolutely terrible. Basically at 24 hours the book ends with blackthorne and mariko sleeping together. It took the show 4 hours to get to that point. So they cut 20 hours of material while rewriting and making their own story. I feel like I’m watching poorly written cliff notes. The story is stuck on fast forward and there is no character development. It’s hard to like anyone in the show. Blackthorne is the biggest disappointment.

Sadly, that has been the trend in cinematography since the days of The Matrix. Dull drab colours to convey some kind of gothic feel, but ultimately, it just makes the viewing experience unpleasant. That's one reason why the new Shogun hasn't caught my eye.
