It was good but this series version of fugi seemed too confident and experienced with guns it was more effective with 1980 Fuji holding and pointing the guns though seeming a bit fearful and excited. Realistic

​@@CrystalClearNews I recall only a few scenes from 1980. I saw the it when I was 11 yo. This portrayal being sorrowfully dutiful. It endeared her to me, later to become admiration. The transformation occurring when her sorrow turned to ferocity. The actor portrayed her beautifully.

Two things they don't mention is that she wants to die so they knew that would welcome dying to protect the guns. Omi would of tried anyway, but wants revenge against yabu so doesn't want to die over a stupid order that yabu gave him.

That's what I've been saying too. Perhaps Yoshi could have staged it so that the canons missed their targets. Giving Jozen a false report to take back. But Ishido committed an act of war just by sending Jozen to retrieve Yabu. And now Ishido will find out that Mr. T has some pretty terrifying canons coming his way. Giving Ishido more incentive to side with Toranaga.

Yeah and the narrator errantly states that Yubashido (?) is aware of this plan and just makes the verbal presentation of denial so that word wouldn't spread. No, he's taken aback. He was left out of the deliberations. Again.

Toranaga's son did the only thing he could, and that was to kill ishido's men. Josun was about to learn the new tactics and yabu was about to betray them. so he killed josun and made the choice for yabu of who to be loyal to.

I fucking love the depiction of the cultures conversing even when language was a barrier!! This show is perfect!!! Mariko is also split between western and eastern culture, being that she is religious whether as a spy or purposeful under christianity of the west (Portuguese and co) and the aetheism of the east (Japan). So it would make sense that she will uphold and release some of the actions of both cultures. After all, she admitted to there being a way for her to make her past right under Lord Toranaga.

Having read the series I can assure you that Mariko is indeed a widow. Each book plays like a Japanese Game of Thrones, so there is plenty of drama that is shown straightforward as it happens. There is no point to speculate about silly things like whether an a man outnumbered by dozens of aggressors will fight his way off a narrow dock and be home for dinner. This is not a Marvel film.

The Joseon navy never used cannon ships during the imjin war, they used a type of mortar in early 1400’s 200 years prior, Even so the British had cannons far superior and more accurate than anything the Japanese had ever had access too. The Japanese samurai were likely familiar with cannon warfare by 1600 but had never had western training with advancements like sighting tools and chain shot, the officers will be able to teach this to thousands of their own students

I didn't think the killing of Jozen is dumb. But its too complicated... You see, letting Jozen alive means having Ishido knew what did Toranaga's army could do, but killing Jozen means war...which is indeed going to happened anyway. I think Toranaga would appreciate his son for that, keeping his force edge and advantages.

He strip the Cannon Regiment's command to teach his son about being a leader as his heir and provide the rank to Omi. What I see is Toranaga deliberately do this to crack up a rift between Yabushige and Omi, as Yabushige deserves it based on their social standing. Plus this will matured Nagakado and makes him more cautious with other people next time. Toranaga is indeed a very intelligent character 🤔 quite a guy..

I like the show, but it's not diverse enough. That's not a good representation of today's society. How about Idris Elba as Toronaga. Blackthorne should be Red haired. There are way to less caucasians and no indian actor represented. I cannot understand this show is not already cancelled. Also I'm kidding, just wanted to raise the blood pressure by some readers. So I'm hiding my irony in between my comment, and enjoy the reactions. And most importantly I miss some native american actors, could easily be part of the Erasmus crew. You can do it FX. 08:30 just want to point out the historical nitpick: the show mentions about Imjin War when Japan Invaded Korea. Then Japan should already know power and accuracy of cannons when they fought against Korean Naval force. So they shouldn’t be surprised by his demonstration

Korea never had a proper navy, you know. The Korea navy fled before it could fight, and lost, the King of Joseon fled the capital, and Hanseongbu was occupied by Japanese forces. China entered the war, but there was no chance of victory, and with Hideyoshi's death, the Japanese lords went home.

@@shirankedo-ib8uv true that Korean naval force was properly built about 3 to 5 years before the war. And yet Japan Lost 23 naval warfare against Admiral Yi by the difference in firepower. The battle in Noryang ended up blowing hundreds of Japanese ships with only 500 casualties. Suffering that much loss should’ve been a wake up call for Japan on the cannon power

The Korean navy had been maintained and trained for the war against Japan since the Goryeo Dynasty and was equipped with many guns, although they were old-fashioned, but they were severely defeated by the Japanese immediately after the war started. The "Keibiroku" and "Bugei Zufu Tongzhi" as well as Chinese records detail "why our allied forces were defeated so severely.
