Jeremy Allen White was absolutely right. “This show has changed my life,” he said as he collected his second Emmy, after two consecutive nominations, for his leading role in The Bear, a series that recounts the tribulations in a Chicago restaurant.
The actor was one of the winners of the night when Shôgun, a series about feudal Japan, was crowned best drama series, the first non-English-language series to achieve this, despite the lack of subtitles in the United States, while Frederick EO Toye took home best director, and Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai won the awards for best dramatic actors. The Bear, the favorite, was surprised by Hacks as best comedy and the miniseries Baby Reindeer won four awards.
