Hot spring hotel (onsen ryokan) is one thing that you must not miss when traveling in Japan. This time we stayed at the [Shokichi] in Ako, Hyogo Prefecture. It is 4.5 km away from the nearest Station. There is a shuttle bus service from hotel, but it is more convenient to drive there.
Shokichi hotel is located on the hillside by Seto Inland Sea. It looks like a modern cement building. As soon as you enter the gate, the friendly staff will arrange check-in (Japanese communication is required). After checking in, you will enter the lobby/lounge with a panoramic sea view. The adorable chair collections and thoughtful welcome drinks/snacks make you relax physically and mentally. The spacious Japanese-style rooms are also decorated with many exquisite and lovely accessories and appliances. The balcony can see the unparalleled sea view of the Seto Inland Sea. The hot springs baths with sea view are very good. The source spring is a colorless and odorless sodium/calcium salt low temperature spring (30 degrees Celsius) and has the therapeutic effect of small amounts of radiation.
The highlight is dining experience including dinner and breakfast the next day. The chef was very attentive to the selection of ingredients, cooking methods, and choice of utensils. The friendly service staff (one lady can speak English) explain each meal when delivering. Warm-hearted little cards/gifts were also provided. Overall, the experience exceeded our expectations.
