65 year old white UK female here - you are spot on. We were so spoilt in those days and loved the music because it was fab - nothing to do with any colour or race issues. This song is just wonderful and takes me back to better times.

Same! Back in the day, most of us never knew what the artists looked like. We only heard them on the radio. It never mattered what the artists looked like, we only cared about the music. I was so spoiled by the amazing talent I got to listen to. I miss it today.

@@dillodefensethat’s right we would listen to the radio and we loved the song for the song . Now there is so much black music and white. Who cares. I happen to love a lot of different music styles. This is a beautiful song

@SharonBrown-yn6fz One of my favorites. They were such an incredible group! Back in the day, music was either classical, rock, or country and nothing else really mattered. You might have found someone playing Big Band music, but not many by that time. I look back and find I am thankful I grew up on the most amazing music.

The old school music never dies! I saw The Manhattans in concert 🎵 back in the day and they were so good live! Gerald Alston, one of the lead singers in the group is the truth! You would love his single “Take Me Where You Want To” on one of his solo albums! What a great group! I love when the young people appreciate music 🎶 from past eras! It keeps it alive! 😎❤️ This channel is so stinkin’ cute! 😎😎😎😎❤️❤️❤️❤️Continued love and blessings😇 to you and your channel Shon! ❤😎You would love “Crazy” by them! They have a boatload of songs and hits! 😎😎😎👍🏽👍🏽👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I'm 62. This means I grew up when the only way to hear music was Top 40 radio, variety TV shows, or buying the album. The last resort was making mix tapes OFF THE RADIO, and getting pisseed when the DJ talked over the beginning of your favorite song. Top 40 in the late 60s and the 70s was truly a mix. Kids today don't have that advantage - they have the advantage(?) of listening only to one genre.

I used to record from the radio, and of course a parent would forget to be quiet and totally ruin it. Might be a few hours before that song was played again, and you had to be ready to jump into action Happy days though

I worked 5 years with a musician in the late 90s early 00s who holds a one-half writing credit on another smash song from the Manhattans. Shining Star, released in early 1980. He told me that one is what is known as a “house song.” I thought he meant house music, which I didn’t get. He said “No, the royalties from 1980 to 2000 more than paid for my house and a nice music studio in the basement.
