This is just another reminder that I don't mind getting old... for two reasons... Number 1 - My youth was not mis-spent... I can't think of a better musical era to have grown up in... and Number 2 - as alluded to in this tune(along with 'Riders On The Storm'), reminds us all that "The Future's Uncertain, and the End Is Always Near", but, I'm still here, despite over 6 decades of taking on life, HEAD ON, and surviving the worst it has YET, thrown at me. The music of my youth, in ALL it's many variations, still holds so much power over the shape of the society we now live in. The next time you young 'uns see an old man hobbling down the street, rather than feeling sorry and pitying his condition... stare in awe at the inspiration before you, and wish that you may someday be so blessed as to have made it through the fires of life, and emerged even tougher than you were in your, so called, "Prime".👍🏼✌🏼🇨🇦

You're ON it: there is a live/montage version of Roadhouse Blues and I REALLY recommend it. Jim was deeply thoughtful and incredibly well-spoken. He was also messed up and explosive. The video shows the "dangerousness" that was as much a part of him as his poetry.

This came out in 1970, the year I graduated high school. I loved Jim Morrison so much. I hitch hiked to a Doors concert with my two best friends (it was safe to do that then. Nobody would murder you) and we almost lost our minds. I haven't heard this song in years. Thanks for the memories.

Oh, the live version is even better. Jim really shone onstage. They all did, but Jim loved to improvise and would go on these vocal jaunts that could last a while. Their famously controversial song "The End" was his playground for improvisation; in the central spoken-word section, he would do word jazz, improvising poetry, get strange. He just really loved to perform, much more than he liked to record.

My late cousin told everyone that jim was her husband - she even told her husband! Lol - i miss her so much. Everytime we would talk i would hear them in the background. She moved out of state too early. A band that i grew up with would sing several of their songs and would bring the house down. They performed maybe 10 mins away from her old house.

Great reaction! I've loved the Doors since my pre-teen years back in the early 80s. I played the radio to get to sleep to at night. I remember waking up one Sunday morning when I was @10 years old and hearing Jim's voice, but it was such an odd song: "Whiskey Bar". I love the song, but it's not on everyone's most favorites of the Doors. Great, but unusual. Another couple of songs I'd recommend that were some of my childhood favs: "Baraccuda" by Heart - heavy, bad ass guitar riffs and slicing lyrics! Also, "Black Water" by The Doobie Brothers. I've heard other people react to "Black Water" by the Doobies, but not Heart. Don't know why because it's kick ass! Basically, Ann and Nancy Wilson (singer and guitarist of Heart and sisters) were furious with the media for making up rumors about them to form a scandal. So, the song is about how cutthroat the media were - and labeling them barracuda. "And if the real thing don't do the trick, you better make up something quick..." Another great Heart song: "Magic Man". Pretty self explanatory...magic man with magic hands. Well done, man! I like your energy and positive vibes! It does my heart good to see more generations loving that good music - and making more great tunes! And it's great to see people branching out and trying different genres. I like many genres myself, from heavy metal, hip hop, bluegrass etc to 1930s jug bands (not so many songs, but i gotta admit "Cocaine Habit Blues" by the Memphis Jug Band is pretty cool and I'd recommend if you want something very different). Imho, you gotta give tribute to those who led us to the music we have now. A great song never dies! Lol. :)

Was my go-to 8:21 karaoke song after a few drinks. One night, I was accompanied by a Harmonica player. Once he heard the song, he joined in. I used to be about that life. One bar after the next. One party after the next. One to many, always with the intent of having acgood times, dancing, and singing with friends. But then it doesn't always work out as intended. Nonetheless, worth the experience, no matter how bizarre situations got. The Doors were one of my favorites. Songs: Strange Days, People are Strange, Hello I love you, Love me two times, Love her madly, L.A. Woman, and Crystal ship.

Great call Lori, this track was the basis of so many bands careers in the early '90s, everyone "borrowed" it, e.g. The Charlatans. It's the touchstone for most of the "dancey baggy" music from that era and some of the musicians, to their credit, have admitted it.
