Two things about me growing up: 1. I loved going to and staying in hotels. Something about the experience just fascinated me somehow. It still does. 2. I LOVED swimming. This meant that I became incredibly fascinated with hotel pools as a kid. Every time we went on vacation I would annoyingly ask “when are we going to the pool” “can we go to the pool” “I wanna go swimming”. And it’s not like I never got the chance to go swimming. I had plenty of opportunies. As a kid I went to a summer day camp with a pool and as a teen I had a membership at the town pool club. But something about hotel pools were different. Maybe it’s because they’re indoors, the chlorine smell, the lack of people. There’s just something about them. Especially at night. There was this one pool from a few years ago I still think about. It was indoors but had glass walls. It had a high rise ceiling which made the room quite intimidating and echoy. The floor and pool itself didn’t have any fancy designs and were quite plain but somehow it made it more interesting. It had a small hot tub too that was big and deep enough to walk around in. It was usually just us there. I can’t remember where it was though. I’d have to remember but it was either Maine or New Hampshire I think. The hotel wasn’t fancy or anything, just average. Chain hotel, probably. Something about that pool stayed with me. Maybe it was the design, the way the room was built, I don’t know. It just had weird and interesting vibes and I hope I can remember where it was. EDIT: After some discussion with my mom, I have a reason to believe it might be the Comfort Inn in Poconos, Pennslyvania. I couldn’t find any pictures of the pool but the name was familiar so it may have been that one. Idk.
@deaththekid90142 жыл бұрын
I've actually been to that exact place, I believe (Comfort inn PA). Funnily enough, it was when I was much younger as well. I distinctly remember the feeling I had when I went there, because it was late at night and mid-winter, snowing heavily outside. It was just me, my dad, and my sister; my dad stayed in the hot tub the whole time whilst my sister and I swam around in the pool. Even as a child, being left alone in hotel pools made me uneasy. I could never stay in them alone, even if other people were in the same area. I don't know why, but I had to have somebody in the water with me for me to feel comfortable enough to swim. I still get a little put off about that. The hotel itself also gave me very weird vibes, so I definitely know what you mean if we are legitimately talking about the same hotel. If you look up the name of the hotel and click on the main site, it will show you pictures of it, including the pool. Seeing it again brought a whole bunch of memories from that place up to the surface of my mind, even if I only stayed there one night. (Yes, I know I'm responding to a 7 month old comment, but I thought it was a neat opportunity to say something since I've been there.)

I've been to the one in Vantaa, Finland a couple years ago. There's a big pool when you enter the facility and an array of smaller pools. I distinctly remember the happy vibrant colours of the slides and decorations in contrast to the dark ceiling, in combination with the wide open space because it wasn't all too busy, being a little off-putting, but that being said, it was an enjoyable visit.

Liminal images are kind of frightening for me, I've always had a fear of being at a place that should be filled with people but are completely empty, and I have nostalgia because they remind me of the several times I went to the pool as a kid, but I think I fear them due to the fact they remind me of the time I almost drowned. Kinda spooky to die in a place full of people who can help but don't even give a glance. In a place full of colorful swimming toys, laughing kids and a lingering stench of chlorine in the air, not my preferred way to go.

I remember having weird dreams/imaginations as a child where I imagined being in white tiled rooms with cold blue pools that had this typical cold tile style, similar to the one at 0:23. Sometimes connected with the fear of deep dark pools with steep walls and no way to get out. I don't know where this came from and if it was connected to anything I saw in real life, but it seems to connect to the feelings and liminality that pools give many people.

I just suddenly got reminded of this hotel/motel I was staying at. The rooms had indoor balconies that overlooked the pool, however it was closed at the time but I still remember it, it was so odd. It was dark and still smelled like chlorine, pretty sure there was an area that had seating. Another odd thing was that right next to the empty pool there was carpeting. Carpet near an empty, dark pool with an all out unnerving vibe, can’t believe I forgot about that.

4:17 I’ve been here dozens of times so I can explain a bit. This is actually the Wilderness Resort Hotel located in Wisconsin Dells, which is really close to the city of Lake Delton, WI. The Lost World Park is just one park apart of the hotel, but includes a couple more indoor parks and one more outdoor park. Only hotel guests can go to this park, as they make you wear wrist bands. The Great Wave is just a photo at night of the wave pool which closes at 9:00 PM. I didn’t take the photo but I’ve been there enough to know when they close, and we’ve been locked in the wave pool a couple of times. There actually is two slides inside the indoor wave pool but those are just air vents you pointed out. But they usually only use one of the two slides for some reason and keep the other closed. There are two hotels you can be staying at on the campus, the ones in the background you are looking at are the "Glacier Canyon Lodge", but it also includes an area called “Wilderness Hotel” and there is the “Wilderness On the Lake” which is off campus. The town has a lot to offer but is expensive, so when we go there we usually just take up what the Wilderness Resort has to offer. And yeah this place is really fun. I’ve been to a few hotels in the town and none of them compare to this hotel. If you ever find yourself in Wisconsin Dells I recommend this place. Hope I didn’t jabber on to much. Edit: I made a mistake on the hotel section, It's the "Glacier Canyon Lodge", not the "Great Wolf Lodge". The "Great Wolf Lodge" is another hotel nearby the Wilderness Resort. My bad. I wrote this at like 1:00 AM a month ago lol. The error is corrected.

When I was in college, I participated in a 24h writing marathon. I had to drive about 3h from my town to get to the event, which means that I stayed awaked and active for about 40h total. In between writing sessions, we had breaks for food and to move around with some activities. At 4 or 5 am, we had the choice between a yoga session and going to the pool. No way I would have been able to do yoga without falling asleep at that point, so I went to the pool and it was a fucking surreal experience. First, I was a zombie running on cheap coffee and oreos because I've been awake for around 20h at that point. So when I got into the water, there was all that noise and smells and people talking but it felt like an out of body experience that jerked me back into myself when I hit the water. It just woke up right away, super weird! But also, it was in a school on a weekend, it was pitch black outside and only half of the pool was occupied. It had all those small sections for kids and a bigger pool for competitive swimming we didn't have access to. So it was just like 20 teenagers, half alive on caffein, having a swim in the night in the most out of place situation... It was amazing but also one of the many strange times I lived a ''liminal space'' moment!

I had reoccurring dreams as a kid of being in very large pool/water rooms(all by myself)with all kinds of toy boat runways and random waterfalls coming from the ceiling. I once went swimming with my dad when i was 6, in a local 'bungalow park' pool. It was liminal to the max. A small hexagonal pool, the lip of it was black marble. The hexagonal room around it with glass and marble walls... above the room, a glass dome. We were the only ones, it was dead quiet apart from us, and the sound of splashing water. We swam around for a little while, and dad swam into the edge of the pool- and injured his neck. i think there was a little pool ladder, he got out with my help, we never went to that pool again and the place closed down about a decade later (sadly, i might add. it was a nice place.)

Anyone else had the pool room dream? The walls, floors, ceilings, its all pool tiling. With about 3 inches of clean, clear pool water flooding the place.
@theodorekaczynski81473 жыл бұрын
If any of you remember that level of the original Half Life where you reach the surface and have to fight the army through some water processing thing, which has little streams that go throughout the whole place. It's right after you get the crossbow, I think. That gives me the same feeling

The dude brought up the chlorine smell of a hotel pool and I STG I could smell the chlorine in my bedroom. That hit new nostalgia levels that shouldn't be possible.

We were kinda poor growing up so we didn't do hotels a lot but being born in Florida we'd go to the beach as much as possible. That holds more nostalgia than any rinky dinky pool

To me, the liminal spaces with water in them are the most unsettling. They always send chills down my spine for just no reason at all and idk why

they are unsettling, something about the water

At 3:30 why that image is so nostalgic for me is my parents used to take me to a hotel in myrtle beach and there was a kiddie pool, and there was always this room around the corner of the room that I had never been in before, with water pouring from the top of the doorframe. It didn’t look very kid friendly, it looked more like a hospital room, and it always kinda scared me. But one day, I was at that pool, and I went past the door with the water, and it was a completely white room, with nothing and no one in it, except for this mushroom pouring water in the middle. The fluorescent lights also made a weird buzzing noise in there, and it still creeps me out to this day. It was like I glitched out of reality briefly..

4:17 is actually called the Wilderness Resort. I have been there a few times when I was 4. Which explains the familiarity. I went last year and rode that loop slide.

0:51 I remember this image from one of the Trollge incidents where one person is left by the bus at school, and wishes to seek revenge, but no one is in the town anymore, and he is alone forever.

its so weird that liminal spaces and weirdcore etc make me feel damn comfy instead of comfy AND uncomfy/upset

I almost could hear the humming from fluorescent light bulbs, so calming. The picture as a whole is just so familiar and calming at 5:21 and 5:36

To anyone wondering what style this is its called weirdcore/dreamcore/kidcore. Its basically full of familiar stuff that you "remember" seeing as a kid/today. A lot of these include indescribable images you feel like you remember such as empty library or a empty store. Another weirdcore thing is eyeballs and bright colors such as red,yellow,blue,and green which i think they are known as primary colors
@Shookey Жыл бұрын
honestly, a pretty unique, but accurate summary. at least of weirdcore/dreamcore

Liminal Space Pools are one of the most scariest kind of abandoned/old spaces

I know for a fact that I’ve seen the thing in 3:22. My grandma used to take me to a Water Park that had one of these in the shallow end. The only thing I’m having trouble remembering is the color of the top.

The memory I have of indoor pools in hotels is that they’re loud as hell. I feel like a effing bat in there, every splash coupled with screaming and yelling children vibrates through my ear drum like if the sound was through a megaphone
@expiredwater4118 Жыл бұрын
3:24 I've been to a place like that when I was a very young child, somewhere in Cattaraugus County, New York. There was a playground next to a pool with those mushroom-looking things. Nearby was also a hill that led down to a creek or river.

Liminal spaces don’t creep me out. They make me happy. I think the reason is that I’ve seen a liminal space image in the past that was actually a place I had been to, and it brought back many good memories. Unfortunately I was an idiot who decided to go out at 12:00 AM on a night walk there assuming I could walk 24 miles (12 there and back) in 5 hours at night without my phone being charged, and I was disappointed to find the place where the building once was to be nothing but an open field. I then took my shattered legs all the way back home and didn’t arrive until 5:00 AM. It was a sad night and a painful one, but ever since, these places have made me happy. Another thing that just came to mind is that as a kid, I used to have dreams about a Great Wolf Lodge water park area I’ve been to, but slightly different. The colors, placement of things, and shape were all different, and it was a liminal space. I was all alone in it. I got to explore everything on my own, which filled the void of never being able to go to a pool alone until I became an adult
