Love all your videos, I’ve been a subscriber for a few years now. Your mental approach to playing has helped me a ton. I shot 79 a few days ago playing stress free; it’s nice to be back in the 70’s. After watching your swing lesson video with Eric, I am working on not swaying as well. His lesson helped me too. In this video I noticed that you were swaying again, which caused you to smack the ball and hit it right. Try not to rock backwards on your backswing. Also, for what it’s worth, since I’ve seen so many of your videos (even on repeat), I think you need to pause for 1 second at address (before starting your backswing). I’ve noticed a big difference when you take an extra 1 second before starting your backswing; you hit straighter and compress the ball better when you do it. Keep up the good work dude, love your videos!

With consistent practice in the range and being able to play a round or two every week i can now shoot in the low 90's on a consistent basis. Even shot my first 84 but it was a lucky game where i couldn't do anything wrong lol. Thanks for the tip and videos playa they really do help!

You shot 84 within your first 5 months? That is insane my good man. Well done! I don't think it was a lucky game, it was you in flow state where you weren't doubting or fearing. That is quite attainable and just goes to show, if you can do something once, you can do it twice, and actually over and over and over. Well done!

It's not as easy to bump n run in South Africa because we have Kikuyu grass. It's spongy and the ball reacts unpredictably. But on finer grasses, or courses that are dry or with bent around them, I love bumping and running it from 50 yards out

hey matt, great video. Do you do the same thing as me as come in on the inside and the right leg collapses which then you try and re adjust and get on the back foot. I do this and take barely any divot and when try and take divot I skull it even more. Keep up the great work, nice to see you back playing.
@GolfSidekick5 жыл бұрын
I found the root cause was mainly ball position which creeps back slowly over the course of 6 months or so. Always happens to me. But this time I started adjusting my swing trying to ‘lift’ the ball in the air because it was too far back in the stance. That made a steeper downswing and also the reverse C position at the end which killed my back. I actually come in too steep often and take mega divots. Also I was hitting AT it instead of THROUGH the ball. Big mistake! Lots of pain. I dont think your leg collapsing is the issue. Theres some other root cause that makes your body want to do that to save the shot.
@VoodooZ5 жыл бұрын
How would you describe the feels of the new swing? Do you feel like your Hitting more than swinging now? Or more of an upper body driven feel?
@GolfSidekick5 жыл бұрын
Stephane Gauthier Actually I feel like its all swing and no hit now. The previous one was a hit AT the ball and now its a swing through the ball letting the ball just get in the way of the natural swing. I am focusing on just getting my shoulders and head square to the target at the end of the swing with weight more centered over my spine instead of favoring the right side like I was before. My right lower back was always destroyed the next day after golf and I am focusing on getting that finishing position even over the hips instead of scrunchd up on the right side. It also feels like I am often swinging at 75% power which actually relaxes you and make you go low stress mode and then hit it further. And i dont know if the swing is upper body driven but just more upper body coming through because it just wasnt before. The head up move seems to be getting that working as well as me thinking of covering the ball with my right shoulder as I rotate through without dipping the right shoulder toward the ball just a simple twist like a baseball hit

@GolfSidekick6 жыл бұрын
Tom Ross I am getting a nice gentle draw when I execute the new swing properly. I think a stronger grip will increase that. But I do use a stronger grip on tighter driving holes.
@tomross26666 жыл бұрын
Golf Sidekick a stronger grip really has nothing to do with a draw or fade. You have a tendency to flip at impact and a stronger grip limits that. A snap hook and a wide right miss are symptoms of a flip at impact. A Duval style of release increases one’s chance of getting stuck, which will make a flip worse. I believe you have wonderful timing, which allows you to time your flip sometimes, but not others, and it shows up in a lack of consistency. Most great players play with a grip that is much stronger than most people realize. Anyways, it’s just something I’ve noticed while watching your swing. Love your channel and I hope you try strengthening your grip because it will help you greatly.

Watching you play this round and attempting to infer your club distances by noting yardages before and after a shot, it appears you hit all your clubs a good 40-50 yards further than I do (150 yard PW?!!). Do you happen to know your swing speed or driver club head speed? My DCHS is only 85-88 mph.
@GolfSidekick6 жыл бұрын
Yo man! I was playing at 5700 foot altitude so it adds another 10-15 yards to the shots. My driver swing speed when I am not trying to smash it is 109 mph. Used to be 117 when I was a young warthog. Dont take too much from the subtraction of distances. Holes are measured up the middle of the fairway and we often don’t play the curved holes all the way round, we cut corners and use angles so it can be misleading. But yes in Johannesburg 155 yards is easy enough with a PW. At sea level I hit it from 135-140 yards. Ground was hard as there hadnt been much rain and also there is always wind around. But that altitude makes it go boom boom which i why 7000 yards wasnt that long for me

My good man, I fell in love wiht it the moment I saw it. I had snapped my Epic after it fell off the back of a golf cart so I hit my friends Srixon the rest of the round. I held it in my hands, and the head shape, the minimal decal on the crown, the plain face with no funny marks on and the sweet spot being where I can hit it, I was sold. And I still love it. I took a softer 6.0 Project X shaft so I don't have to hit it so hard to promote an easier swing. I truly love this driver now.

I just didnt FEEL connected to it. The funny spider looking thing over the sweet spot was starting to annoy me and the bumpy fancy design on the crown was also distracting. I prefer clean crowns and nothing on the face. When I looked down at the srixon, it was immediate i knew I woud like it. Thats all it takes with me and selecting clubs. I could hit the Epic but I just didnt LOVE having it in my bag. Much like my irons I have. I have never LOVED them. And I have fallen in love with two sets. Srixon Z585 and a Japanese brand which is sexually arousing called ONOFF

@@GolfSidekick I have never heard of that brand. Interesting...a very Justin Rose move of you to pick an under the radar Japanese brand. Before you decided to change your swing did you try strengthening your back/core at all with exercise?
@GolfSidekick5 жыл бұрын
Chea I am working on the strengthening of the muscles yeah. But the swing was making me flip the ball in the air. I dont think i am changing that much. I think the ball position change moving it forward just promotes a better swing anyway. Should be classic.

iPhone and a Canon HS60 depending on the wind, how many players etc I have to transfer files to an iphone or android for the shot tracer This round was iPhone

Sweet video, I've been watching your stuff for a while! Do you shot mostly on iphone or your canon?

Knocked Stiff Golf Both depending on how windy it is. The phone is too light for the wind. Blows it right over. And also depends how many guys I am filming. If its a long day I will use both

If it was in Ireland yes. But it will be in the UK, too much of a mission for a wanderer like me to get a visa to the UK unfortunately since they removed us South Africans from the visa exempt list a few years ago. One day I will just host the Thailand edition

Stop it. You're living my golf existence in another part of the world. The David Duval thing. It's creepy. I have never "kept my eye on the ball". So many people tell me it is a huge problem. I always turn my head before impact. Side note; How many tournaments and majors did Duval and Sorenstam win? And never once looked at the impact? Thank you. Point made.
@GolfSidekick5 жыл бұрын
Well the pro I saw in Port Elizabeth just needed to mention Duval and Sorenstam and I was in. Always LOvED duvals head up thing and sorenstam was the main feature of Every Shot Must Have A Purpose. I sometimes do the head up on the actual shots but not intentionally. I mainly use it in preshot as well as a hockey grip to get that feeling of not flipping and rather rotating the upper body through. Really enjoying golf again especially pin free. The shot I hit on the par 3 and approach on the next hole to the par four to make birdie are essentially the swings I want. That 8 iron was like a tracer bullet. Tsepho immediately said man the ball flight on those last two shots was so different to anything he has seen.
@OurHouseChannel5 жыл бұрын
@@GolfSidekick Agreed. It's always been an instinctual movement for me that I never changed. With your recent swing changes also, you're doing great. It will become habitual in no time for you. As you said, you fell back on old swings occasionally, but that will pass. Don't think I didn't notice that little dig at Matt Fisher. I saw that. I like him, but some of his short game thoughts and practices are too convoluted. Like mini flops from 2 yards off the green to a pin 2 paces on. Average golfers have zero need for such shots.
@GolfSidekick5 жыл бұрын
OurHouse I must admit I don’t watch much of his stuff. Find it hilarious to be called Mr Short Game. Also using two shafts in the shape of a + sign to reinforce ball position in the stance. That seems to be a big issue as the ball creeps further and further back in my stance over a six month period. Weird
@OurHouseChannel5 жыл бұрын
@@GolfSidekick Bro, stop. Same issue. With most of my irons, I get away with it. I will just have the occasional leaky right shot. But I can't hit a 54 or 58 consistently to save my life. I am convinced that the ball being too far back is causing that with wedges. Good luck and keep em coming.
@GolfSidekick5 жыл бұрын
OurHouse I am playing my wedges just in front of middle of stance now with the new swing thought. Honestly, that, plus actually buying the new wedges which just FEEL superb, has made a huuuuge difference. I am not longer chunking them because i am catching them in the actual bottom of the swing instead of hitting at the ball because it was too far back in thestance (near back foot). I actually for this first time in 10 years feel like I am getting lethal inside 120. Plus moving the ball forward with the wedges has given me another 10-15 yards on each of them with RIPPING spin. And with a flighted shot, which I could never play but can now with the new swing, the ball just hops drops and stops. I am amazed
@rossoctober7435 жыл бұрын
Sorry Matt, I call some creative editing. On the 7th , 422 yards you hit a 5 iron off the tee and have 170 to the green. That's a 252 yard 5 iron, REALLY?

Ross October Steep Down hill straight down wind at 5700 altitude in Johannesburg onto hard ground which hadnt had rain for weeks. With a well struck draw. I can do that easily. My 5 iron goes 225-230 on flat ground in Johannesburg easy. TBone was right there with me and I said ‘dude no one will believe I just hit 5 iron 250.’
@andrewmoldenhauer28645 жыл бұрын
I can agree with Matt.. Particularly before the rain came in Johannesburg, the fairways were extremely hard and the ball would run on for what would feel like miles.
