Shooting a scale 1:2 reconstruction of the Quedlinburger Balliste

Shooting a scale 1:2 reconstruction of a medieval ballista. It is based on the only surviving example of an early 14th century ballista from the German town Quedlinburg.
The lenght of the not preserved composite bow was around 350 cm. The bow of the reconstruction is around 180 cm long and consists of serveral stripes of wood covered with leather.

Was für eine geiles Video! Ihr habt eine 1:2 Version gebaut. Bedeutet das etwa, dass das Original doppelt so groß war und auch doppelt so weit geschossen hat? Kannst du auch mal was über die Durchschlagskraft sagen?

Danke! Ja genau, das Original war doppelt so groß. Die Bogenlänge des Originals wurde mit 3,6m berechnet. Doppelt so weit wurde nicht geschossen - nur doppelt so schwere Geschoße konnten damit verschossen werden. In diesem Fall ca 1,8m lange "Pfeile". Höchstschussweiten lagen bei etwa 200 bis 300m.

Fantastic work! Do you plan on testing it like you did your other crossbow project?

Does that mean you don't think it could hold up to the strain of testing, or does that mean you think the results would be disappointing in comparison? If it's the latter, then I don't think that any of the results could be disappointing. There are so few well made replicas of great crossbows, even if this one is only half scale, that any data is exciting and provides valuable insight into weapons of the past.
