Thanks for the tip on pulling the plane to accommodate an arthritic grip. Always good to focus on what one can do rather than what one can't.

Thanks for another interesting video. Now I know what the front fence is for the suspense was killing me. It made me laugh when you showed the angle cut. You will be planing all day to make it through three inches of stock . Ha ha!😂

5:38 You are changing the reference edge of this piece when you switch from the front and back position, this increases the chance of losing square. Better to use the same reference edge.
@mitchwoodwork
@mitchwoodwork Жыл бұрын
Absolutely right, not what I was trying to demonstrate lol. Personally I prefer to shoot long grain first, hanging over the base board and therefore not guiding for square. Then I shoot the end grain, with face side down and face edge against the fence, using the base board to guide the plane for square.

I have a Record T5 plane with a side handle to use on the shooting board, much easier to hold

@mitchwoodwork 4 ай бұрын
Nice! Extra mass and side handle make the t5 a decent choice

I love this shooting board my friend. It's really nicely built but I have a question if u have a second or 2 to answer pls mate... Q. Does the triangle for the 45's stay put or do u have a way of holding it in place so it doesn't slide about bcos it was moving a bit in the shooting board..?? Enjoyed this video very much. Thanks for making such great content man..
@mitchwoodwork
@mitchwoodwork Жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it! The triangle for the 45°s, or any other angles you might like, could be located with dowels or screws to the main base. I don't bother because although it moves a little with heavy cuts, when you get close to done and reduce the iron depth for a better finish, it's easy enough to hold securely, even with arthritic hands lol.

Nice one Mitch. I'm a wheelchair user and I find pulling the with a shooting plane much easier too, just can't get the momentum when you're so low. In terms with the arthritis, have you considered making a wooden shooting plane with a customised grip? I find a square block with very little shaping quite easy to grip. Great idea with the adjustable shooting board. Do the bolts just butt up against the fence? or have you done something more complicated? keep it stupid simple right? :)
@mitchwoodwork
@mitchwoodwork Жыл бұрын
Cheers Ben. You must have a wealth of workarounds working from a wheelchair. Are there any KZbin channels you find helpful in that respect? I have just butted the bolts up to the back of the fence. There's a potential for fence expansion putting pressure on them, but once the fence is locked down tightly they can be slackened off. Some might say it's already over-complicated lol.
@SirBenJamin_
@SirBenJamin_ Жыл бұрын
@@mitchwoodwork sadly, I don't know of any channels in that respect.

20+ years of rheumatoid arthritis gone after 6 months on a carnivore diet. Give it a go Mitch, it's far healthier than pharmaceuticals!

Hey Martin, Is that for rheumatoid, ostio, or both? I have always had a decent intake of meat and fish, but I could squeeze some more in.
@martinlouden9005
@martinlouden9005 Жыл бұрын
@@mitchwoodwork I'm fairly sure it's for both but I had rheumatoid arthritis so I can't say for sure. It's got to be worth a try if it will help your carpentry to continue.

Thanks Martin. Mine is a Crohn's related inflammatory arthritis, so presents like rheumatoid in many ways. I shall see the butcher! Is it a total exclusion of non-meat products, or simply a much higher than normal meat consumption?

@@mitchwoodwork its all animal products, meat, offal, fish, butter, milk, cream, eggs, cheese, and absolutely no vegetable oils except olive oil so long as it is cooked below its smoking point. Lard, butter and ghee are very nutritious cooking fats. The addition of some occasional broccoli, cauliflower and leafy greens would probably be ok if you felt the need. Incidentally chrohn's seems to do well on the carnivore diet although I have no personal experience with it.

Covers most of what I like, so no hardship either. I'll give it a go!
