In today’s video I’m out in the hills of Wyoming shooting prairie dogs. The .204 Ruger makes short work of the ones that I hit. #wyoming #outdoors #howto #hunting #diy #solowsavageoutdoors #tophookcharters #fishtophook #prairiedog #shooting #longrange #longrangeshooting #sniper #204ruger #western #huntingthewest #predator #critterhunter

Nice work with the .204. I've been taking pictures of prairie dogs in Carbon County for 25 years. Time I start taking a .223 with me.

Looks like a lot of fun. My son was stationed in Cheyenne for four years and I couldn't get him to hook me up lol. He married a WY girl so hopefully they will be back that way some day. Love the Ruger, I have one in .22-250 and .223, my brother has the .243 Win and .25-06, and my other brother has the .220 Swift. Wish I experience this but in Florida best we can harass is the hogs lol.

a tab more camera on impact vs the shot exit.

.204 seems like it would be a good caliber for PD's - low recoil, so I'm assuming that you can see your impacts and adjust accordingly when you miss. Good coyote hunting in Wyoming?

Yes I love the .204 for that reason almost no recoil and super fast flat shouting out to around 300yrds. Yes the coyotes are plentiful out in WYO and plenty of open country to hunt them in.

My wife and I are interested in getting into Prarie dog hunting. We live in Florida and travel out to Wyoming and South and North Dakota often and were wondering about public land in the areas? Any info would be appreciated. I do know we need a license in South and North Dakota. Just no idea where to go...Anything you can tell us would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Frosty, there are several apps out there now days that will tell you where public land is that you can access to hunt on. I use the app OnX and looks for open areas, prairies or grasslands that have easy public access. Once you get a few spots marked on OnX I go check them out in person and see if there are any prairie dogs around. I know Wy has a good bit of public land but SD is limited due to a lot of it being private farms or ranches. Always feel free to call or go to a local DNR office and ask them as well they’re super helpful for any information you need and it’s always correct. Hope this helps ya out and straight shooting! Also don’t be scared to knock on a few doors and ask permission to hunt private land sometimes it pays off.

@@solowsavageoutdoors Hey Thanks a lot. Great info and quick reply. I will check with the DNR office in Wyoming, and knocking on doors is something I have though of also. Thanks again.

I just came back from a prairie dog trip in South Dakota hunting on private land and we encountered an out-of-state group that was "poaching" on the land we were hunting. We wound up arriving on towns that these poachers had already shot out despite the fact that they had no business being there. Somehow they figured out where the towns were and they were deep into the landowners property, so someone must have led them there at some point. The landowner called me this evening to let me know that they had been caught this morning and "it wasn't going to end well for them". He didn't elaborate on that. Moral of the story, South Dakota has some great prairie dog hunting, but do it right, know where you are going and make sure you are allowed to be there...

Helping the ranches. Prairie dogs dig holes in the ground causing the livestock to step in and break a leg. And also prohibit the growth of grasses where there are large colonies of them
