Here's a video review and speed test to see how it stacks up against last year's model, the RX1. Is the new Hoyt RX3 worth the money? I'll let you decide that one
Garrett Weaver from the On Point Podcast Shoots and Reviews the new RX3 by Hoyt.

I'm a little surprised you didn't like this bow more. I shot Bowtech from '06 to '16 and have test driven them all since, even briefly owned a couple Realm/Xs too. I spent some time with the SS and SR6 yesterday and still prefer the RX3 above all. I realize you're headed a different direction with bows this year, but if you do end up buying a 2019 flagship, do yourself a favor and shoot this one again. I really think Hoyt got it all-around right this time!

Very interesting that you do the chrono test with so many different arrow weights; something that was rarely if ever, seen in most other reviews. So two questions here; 1. If the difference of speed between the lightest arrow and the heaviest arrow for bow "A" is lesser than bow "B", does it mean bow "A" is more efficient? 2. Because more arrow weight usually translates into a more dead in the hand feel, does it mean one can get away with lighter mass for stabiliser setups by using heavier arrows? Thank you.
@PMOUTDOORS24

Yes you’re referring to what’s called IBO Retention. Second answer is that would be user preference. I use the spider tracker stabilizer which does a great job, but having a Heavy bow and hiking in the woods can get cumbersome after miles and miles.

What’s the minimum arrow weight I need to penetrate a deers shoulder blade? I don’t aim there of course but I have had two instances where I didn’t recover a deer bc I hit the shoulder blade. I’m interested to hear your opinion
@PMOUTDOORS24
@PMOUTDOORS24 6 жыл бұрын
There’s a TON of factors that play into answering that question. What’s going to be the easiest answer is momentum which comes more with weight rather than speed. I can easily go through a shoulder blade of a deer with my 457 grain arrow shooting shooting 282fps. The heads plays an important part as well, however momentum will be the biggest factor. I know guys who shoot 550 grains or more and they don’t worry about deer shoulder blades.

@@imurhucklberry3496 Your point is valid. For women the Triax is fine. For most men capable of lifting 225 or doing something like 20 reps of pullups then it's just too dang small. My draw length is 29" which is more like 29.5 on another bow. That's just too dang long for the feminine ATA of 28". After this season the Triax will be rendered our family's "youth" or "female" bow.

@@imurhucklberry3496 - most archers I've talked to and in reading posts on archery talk, it seems for guys below the national average for height find the Triax fine. Danny Morris - physics. Shorter ATA harder to balance. If you’re right shorter ATA doesn’t matter go try your logic with the Olympic Archery team. They shoot longer ATA for a reason. I am curious what you’re doing with your form to say a shorter ATA isn’t affecting your accuracy. Serious question.

People in the comments seem very picky. That’s fine, but every year people complain about a little vibration. I have been shooting a bear apprentice for 5 years, that is outrageously loud and has a ton of vibration. I’m 18 and hopefully finally upgrading next year to an RX3. @rayking3466
@rayking3466 6 жыл бұрын
IBO is set with a 350 gr arrow, 30" draw length, and 70lb draw weight. Essentially at the absolute minimum to prevent damage to the bow. Those arrows are heavier, and the draw length is shorter than IBO. Nobody who is sane would set up a bow to shoot like like that for more than a few shots. Eventually, the bow will fail, possibly catastrophically, if shot with that light of an arrow for very long. Fortunately, Hoyt has the 1500 dry fire test so it will last longer than most but it will still fail eventually.

So the bow has decent amount of vibration and noise still and issues with the carbon finish ( which was quickly glossed over). It doesn’t make calculated out IBO and guessing if you put it on a scale bare bow it would weigh quite a bit more then 3.9lb...... and price has gone up. Interesting to re-watch your last year’s videos and see your perception of the carbon compared to now and how it reads across your face as “this might not be worth it”. Good video though and honest review.

Very interesting to compare this video to last years rx1 review. You can tell Garrett is no longer buying into the hoyt/carbon hype. I was the same last year, eventhough I have no brand bias I was dead set on buying an rx1 last year, but after shooting the rx1 and comparing it to different bows I felt that the price tag just wasn't worth it. Interestingly enough I thought that the triax and realm bows were the best shooters so I took one home. In Canada the bow would cost me $2600 after taxes...a couple years ago the carbon defiant was $1800 after taxes...I believe that the "new tech" doesn't justify this price difference.

Excited to see what they come out with. I have a Mathews Triax and have shot the RX1 back to back many times and in my opinion I think the Triax is a much better bow. I have shot mine out to 140 yd and the 28in ATA is actually very forgiving. When they first came out with it, I thought it was going to be super unforgiving. But man I was wrong.
