2:02 The moment Jeff realizes that the slid stop won't release the slide so he just washes over that by saying that he "prefers to rack it back." 3:05 "one of the easiest shooting 9mm's" ...with video proof at 8:35 They're all "dandy little pistols" here at gunblast.

I picked up the Remington RP9 on sale for 199+tax. I wanted an economical range gun to experiment with. From a cursory examination, the slide hold open meant for left handed shooters mechanically cannot work. Why it’s there I dunno. Overall the pistol is overbuilt for 9mm-barrel is stamped +p on it as well. This new purchase intrigues me. I have reliable firearms for protection. The Remington will be interesting. It might be surprisingly good 🤷🏻‍♂️

Excellent review GunBlastdotcom, of the Remington RP9 Striker-Fired Polymer Semi-Automatic Pistol. It was put through a good test with various ammunition brands. A lot of Americans might like the slimness of the grip, and the angle too. ... GunBlast and Boge know how to make good videos and to get it right. The tag moment at the end reveals it.

I don't own an RP9 and I can't speak to the first factory shipment of these pistols. That said, they're flying off the shelves at my local Sportsman's Warehouse and I'm seeing more of them everyday at my gun club and out on the range. My observation has been when clean, lubed, and fed "quality ammo" they're running fine.

Thystaff Thywill They're a little late to the game with a polymer framed striker fired pistol, and the R51 was probably (and continues to be) one of the biggest disasters ever. They need to reconsider their approach.
@hilltop4847
@hilltop4847 8 жыл бұрын
Thystaff Thywill Glock is owned by Glock. Remington is owned by "Freedom Group" who are owned by a capitol management company who are only interested in exploiting smaller companies for meager market shares ("distressed investing"), which in turn is why they're introducing this pistol. The corporate hierarchy pushed the r51 to market prematurely solely to appease investors and you saw the result. Remington should have never sold out, but I believe they had to to save jobs at the company.

Oh wow. Another exciting handgun from Remington. I just can't wait for the first round of recalls. On and the backstrap looks like it has shark gills on it. They already ruined Marlin. Then came the R51. Then they robbed a bunch of fence posts to do their wood stocks. Now they come up with a generic polymer framed handgun whose only attribute seems to be that it looks like a better quality hi cap Hi Point. Except we already know that Hi Points actually work. Blaming that ammo for the problems with this gun in this video is probably not correct.

Jeff your videos are the best on KZbin. Remington, when will you pay someone to scour social media for what the CUSTOMER wants. As I hold the model 700 my grandmother gave me, and clean my 760 game master, I hold my head in shame, because Remington really has gone to crap, for lack of better terms. Everything is "cheapened" up... Grab a 700 off the shelf and take a 700 made 25 years ago...what a difference. Am I the only one who would love to see Americas oldest gun maker, actually care about the guns they make?

looked awful lot like you were trying to not use the slide release like a normal gun. is it because it's a defective design and made a cheap flimsy sheet metal and bends and doesn't do anything if a lefty is using it?
@Gunblastdotcom
@Gunblastdotcom 8 жыл бұрын
It is because, as I have stated before, it is not a slide release. It is a slide lock, to allow the easier use for a left-handed shooter to manually lock the slide in the open position. jeff
@libtardhunter2880
@libtardhunter2880 7 жыл бұрын
Gunblast.com Slide lock, slide release, whatever. This gun is junk. Every competing pistol with an ambi slide lock also functions as a slide release on both sides of the gun. If it doesn't work this way on the RP9 then that is a huge design flaw and something a REAL reviewer would point out and call them out on. But your a shill so naturally you won't.

Looks like a Smith & Wesson M&P clone with a few cosmetic revisions. The 15+1 capacity on the .45 ACP model sounds intriguing, since about the only other one out there right now with that is the FNX-45 (had one briefly, just sold it), but hopefully the grip and/or mag isn't as ridiculously long, or as fat as the Glock 21 mag. Not sure how they can cram that many .45 rounds in there while still keeping it reasonably slim/compact.

@Gunblastdotcom 8 жыл бұрын
FWIW, Jeff receives no "freebies" to peddle anything. Jeff reports on the guns he reviews, not anyone else's experiences or agenda-driven innuendo; he can do nothing else with honesty. If a gun has problems, he reports them, every time. If you watched the video or read the article, you would have seen this, as he reported (and I showed on the video) problems with Freedom Munitions ammo; there were ZERO problems with the pistol, just the FM ammo. NONE. Jeff can do no more than give an honest review of the pistol in-hand; if he based his review on others' experiences (real or imagined) or Internet rumor, he would exhibit the lack of integrity of which you unfairly accuse him. Boge

In light of Remington's track record with original design handguns: Why would anyone spend $400-500 on this gun when they could buy a Glock, Springfield Armory XD, Smith & Wesson M&P, FNS, Sig 320 or other proven design ? Sorry Remington, too late to the party.

Never run into a firearm you don't like, eh Jeff? I wouldn't mind so much if you were doing fake reviews on vacuum cleaners or electric toothbrushes, but people rely on these firearms to keep themselves and their families safe. Still, keep going to Shot Show and junkets from the firearms manufacturers, it's all good.

Looks..fine...I guess. It is a generic striker fire at the same price as all the others. That is not a problem mind you, but if I have so many options, and one of them is from a company who has such a bad track record, why would I bother? I will pick up one of these used in about 5 years or so. That ammo seemed to be a little under powered, and ran not so great. Kind of odd as most of what I see from Freedom Munitions is rather good. Well I will keep an eye on that ammo.

MAC just reviewed this pistol. The right side slide release (for lefties) would not work - bad engineering. In Jeff's video you can see him try to release the slide and it doesn't work - he quickly racks the slide instead. C'MON !!!! Shilling for Remington !!!! I've lost my respect for this guy. Remington produces crap and Jeff sells it for them. Not right. MIKE B

I will try to go on with life without your respect, but that is not a slide release. It is a slide stop. The proper way to release the slide is by withdrawing it and letting go. I did not watch his video, but did note that he bought a case of the cheapest ammo available to use. Also note that in my review, I stated that the Freedom Munitions ammo did not work in the RP9. jeff

To be fair, the RP9 didn't work with ZQI ammo either which is NATO spec ammo and not the cheapest on the market. I'm filming a video tomorrow to show a wide variety of firearms running just fine with the same 124gr Freedom Munitions.

To be completely fair in regaurds to Jeff and Tim, Poly striker fired pistols need to have very high reliability to be worth their cost. Tim was using brass cased ball ammo in NATO spec. Beyond that though most of the ammo he was using is BALL rounds. These guns should run even Tula steel cased flawlessly. In respect to Jeff, It seemed to be working fine for him Again freedom caused the jams. Some guns just don't work well with some ammo manufacturers, Its just life. The best guns run them all. The slide stop i would say is not very well thought through. From what ive seen it appears the problem is with the magazine itself: The magazines seem to be out of spec and the cartage slides too far forward from being fired and then getting jammed under the feed ramp super hard due to the strong spring that that magazine requires. This push's on the barrel hood causing a really nasty jam due to contact to the barrel hood and slide. That jam is almost akin to a double feed in clearing it. The damage to the cartridges that Tim had would suggest that the round is getting caught between the lip of the front of the magazine and the feed ramp seizing it up super hard. It looks like the magazines need a minor stamping in the front of them causing a small vertical detent to prevent the cartridges from creeping too far forward in the magazine due to the gun firing. Keep testing and let us now how it preforms Jeff. Maybe a followup on this weapon after 1000 rounds and discussing your experience with it? If its only a magazine design problem that's not too bad considering its Remington right?

At this point I'm convinced that the RP9 magazine is a Para Ordnance .38 Super magazine repurposed to 9mm. Set a RP9 mag side-by-side with a M&P mag, or a CZ mag, or a Glock mag and you'll see it's longer. This is likely a contributing factor to the gun being ammo sensitive. Given the size of the gun, which is just plain too big for a 9mm, it's clearly designed so that the lower is compatible with a .45 ACP upper assembly. The lower assembly will be universal between calibers all the way up to .45. This makes for a very awkward 9mm. I don't understand this approach to a multi-caliber gun. The slide, barrel and recoil spring are FAR more expensive to produce than an injection molded polymer lower. Remington's focus on making the most affordable part of the gun compatible with 9mm and .45 seems a bit off-base. The .45 conversion will require the replacement of the slide, barrel and recoil spring. These parts will be expensive. You might as well just buy a complete .45 and buy a complete 9mm if you want both calibers. Again, this approach has left us with a very large, clumsy feeling 9mm. Perhaps the RP45 will make a bit more sense and won't be so awkward and ammo sensitive.

I will also add that pulling the slide to the rear and releasing it is not the "proper way" to load a handgun. That assertion is a modern bastardization of the use of the slide stop / slide release. Pulling the slide to the rear and releasing it is one of two ways to load a firearm. If a pistol only works if you pull the slide to the rear and release it and it doesn't continue the historically accepted tradition of optionally hitting the slide release then I would say the firearm in question is improperly designed. Many top trainers teach the use of the slide release, which I cover in my Freedom Munitions ammo test video. It's also interesting that in the case of RP9 the slide release works fine for right handed user and it's only the left handed user that is not able to use the slide stop as a slide release.
