I agree. This was Coscarelli giving Universal the finger for forcing him to create a love interest for Mike and recasting him. Hopefully the poor girl died in the crash before this disrespectful desecration took place. Even Angus Scrimm didn't like this for the character! In my mind however, since The Tall Man took her head, the eyeball in the sphere spying on everyone belonged to Liz.

I met Don Coscarelli at a double-feature showing and asked him this: "In Phantasm III, did you kill Liz as a way of sticking it to Universal for making you hire James LeGros over Michael Baldwin?" He had a good laugh and replied: "No, it was just a way to keep the story focused on the guys and their hunt for The Tall Man." I wish there was at least one reference, from Mike, regarding her fate. It could have added to his melancholy mood.

@@RoosterMontgomery That is a common misconception. It was actually because they felt they had told Liz's story. Still, why kill off a pretty girl with so much more to her than just being the hero's love interest? Plus, did they really had to destroy her good looks and have the Tall Man take her head away?

@treeboy113 kinda - on pump shotguns it can be called the pump or the slide. Moving the pump moves a round from the magazine into the chamber. Break-open shotguns like in the movie don't have magazines or pumps though, which is why the sound effect is so funny.

@@erinmccutcheon3751 I agree, but Coscarelli was also pressured to make the movie more linear with less "is this real?" moments all the Nightmare on Elm Street movies milked to death by that time. The cast is very small, so she didn't feel like an intrusive character unlike some of the baggage cast P3 had.
