In USPSA you can cut the corner of the shooting area without penalty? On another note, those mags are crazy. We have to reload multiple times in a COF here in Canada with 10 round limited mags.

Yes, you can leave the shooting area in USPSA with no penalty.

You can travel freely throughout the stage but have to take your shots within the shooting area

yeah, that's a rule difference between USPSA and IPSC. American shooters had unpleasant surprise on Moscow Rifle World Shoot 2017 :( first major international match with the then-new IPSC shortcut rule. Someone zeroed entire stage with a single misstep. Swedish rangemaster said that he could do nothing, rules are clear. Penalty for every shot after the misstep.
