12:30 Fun fact, there's technically a difference between sound effects & foley! Sound for film & games is usually broken down into 5 broad categories: Dialogue (including walla), Music, SFX, Foley, & Backgrounds. There's a gray area between SFX & foley, but the guiding principle is "would it be easier to record this sound myself, or plug in a recording that someone else made?" So like, if you want a gunshot, it's probably easiest to use a prerecorded one (SFX). But for the sound of skin-on-metal as someone HANDLES a gun, no prerecorded file is gonna have all the nuance you need without extensive cutting & splicing, so it's easiest to just record yourself handling some metal (foley). Source: recently graduated from a 'Sound Design for Visual Media' program

No worries, thanks for asking! The difference is whether you have to sync sounds to visuals. If the camera shows water dripping onto the ground, you have to time the 'drip' sound correctly (SFX). But if the water is always offscreen, or if the source of the sound is onscreen but the sound is constant (like a waterfall), then sync is no longer an issue! You can play the sound 10 seconds earlier or later and it won't make a difference (Background)

I find it interesting how even though Dan doesn't play games all that often and the games he's used to are older, his gamer's intuition and literacy seem to be high. Like the scene where Arin was being sucked into the fan, he knew instantly to shoot the red thing, whereas Arin would have died because he thought it was a cut scene. Could just be Arin's adhd. But Dan is always suggesting the correct answers to Arin only to be ignored most of the time. It has to be a bit.

I think Dan asked about the effect of popping off those zombie headsets earlier, and in case anyone else was wondering: It varies by enemy type. Against "haulers" (earlier-version Soldat units mentioned in Heisenberg's research notes, functionally just sturdier Moroaica) it pretty much just absorbs the damage from your shot and forces a stagger. Against proper Soldat units, it also alters their behavior and moveset - they lose all disciple and no longer cautiously approach you while covering their reactor port, instead they just continually rage-swing in your general direction.
