One idea is to modify the choke control to have the speeds you want. Another is to have the choke AND another control.

I there a schedule for the shop vlogs? I love these kinds of videos.
@vfandm

No schedule, they just go up whenever I have enough footage to compile into a full video, which varies because I'm not always working on vlog material now.

I'd love to see some sort of vintage commercial fixture where the wraparound was like a ringed Prescolite. Or preheat fluorescent. Or were you thinking newer?
@vfandm
@vfandm 7 жыл бұрын
Probably newer, I like vintage fluorescents but you can see I'm not really into collecting/implementing them. I just don't have the interest. I definitely want something a little more ambient; I want to be able to shut down the fluorescents and have a warmer atmosphere. I was talking with Russ to see if we could get some Kichler that I like in here, I haven't heard anything positive yet. Otherwise I'll just keep an eye out for other stuff I like new or old. There's plenty of room for some of everything.

This is what I meant by a prescolite: metromodern.biz/Prescolite-Steel-Pendant-Lights.html Maybe there's a new version? I know that style is coming back.
@vfandm
@vfandm 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I wouldn't mind something like those ringed Prescolites. I know I've seen new takes on the style, it's definitely back. Certainly something of consideration, I'm not opposed to a vintage fixture in that regard. I really have no bias when it comes to lighting, I like what I like whether it be new or old, so I particularly love the new stuff that draws heavily from vintage inspiration. Now I kinda wish I'd bought the large Feiss Holloway pendant (same as the small white/nickel ones in the filming area, only bigger) that was at my Habitat. At the time I couldn't think of a particular use for it, but now it would've been perfect in that spot by the stairs, at least for starters. I plan on changing around and cycling out the lighting occasionally, as I will with the fans, so I'm also trying to keep the costs lower since nothing is subject to permanence.

The only 5-speed controller that I encountered so far that offers a very good range of speed are the Quatre Saisons. The Westinghouse's ones are almost as bad as the Evergo.
@vfandm
@vfandm 7 жыл бұрын
Any made in the past couple decades provide awful range, for sure. I have a few from different makes that are actually fairly decent, the Union ones that came with my Chadwick labeled fans are actually pretty good. Also the DEMCO ones, which I guess are essentially the same as the 4 Seasons so it's not really another example.

Some CMC controllers from the 1990's offers a surprisingly good range of speeds. Vortice controller from any decade will definitely offer a good range of speeds plus they have a separated lighted on/off switch which I love. Surprisingly newer SMC controllers offers a better range of speeds than older ones. I have never tried a Union controller but they seem to have a very good range of speeds according to your demonstrations. For the Quatre Saisons controller, they are two kinds, the older ones (1980-1981) are heavier and have a visible screw on the front, the slightly newer version is lighter and there is no visible screw, this second version offered with models from 1982 to 1985 seems to offer the best speeds of the two versions, plus the knob is easier to turn.

There is an outlet with a plug near the heat fan. What is that for? Also, why does the heat fan have the wrong canopy?
@vfandm
@vfandm 7 жыл бұрын
There are a few outlets up there, if they're the ones I think you're talking about, they're the switched ones I added for the lighted signs. If it's the other one above the workbench, it was existing and feeds a power strip for the workbench that will eventually be eliminated. I plan to come off the switched ones and add many more elements that can all be controlled by the one switch (think lamps and things, stuff that's annoying to have to go around and turn everything on and off). Original Heat Fan canopy got smushed in shipping. I have a spare AB one of the right shape that I was trying to match paint for, it's on a long list of projects, but the ball/socket keeps it much lower profile which is what I wanted in that location anyways. That was a big factor in choosing the Proline for the adjacent location too.
@dspiffy

It's the workbench I think. You uplugged something in the process of moving the fan.

X10 stuff can be found pretty cheap on eBay, as a solution to switching, probably not necessary if you're running fresh romex.
@vfandm
@vfandm 7 жыл бұрын
Ok I wasn't sure where in the video you were referring to. I considered stuff like X10 or even like a connected smart home system just because I think that stuff is fun, but I don't think I really need to achieve that level of individual control. I have to add most of the receptacles I require, so it's not like it would save me much of anything to implement a control system with existing infrastructure. Basically I just need that option of a single location that does on/off for everything.

13:02 Oh the pronunciation! The T is mute so it's actually pronounced ''Lancelow''.
@vfandm

I'm not French. That's how we pronounce it in 'Murica. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHeYaH16q7uXppo

@LesVentilateursduQuebec 7 жыл бұрын
I'm not French either and I live in America too but I never heard it pronounced with the T like that. It's a proper noun of a knight from Loire so there's not much possible pronunciations except for the ''Lance'' ''Lense?'' etc but the ending is definitely ''low'' or ''loh''.
@vfandm
@vfandm 7 жыл бұрын
You speak French, that's close enough. 'Murica indicates the United States of America. Leave it to you to continually get over-technical about everything. I literally Google translated Lancelot from English to French to hear the accent, as I expected it's exactly how you describe. I don't know who's to really say that anything is correct here, but regardless, I took English Lit in high school and we did the whole King Arthur thing. Educators across the Unites States pronounce it this way, the entire school system is not inept, we just don't speak every word ending in 'lot' with a clearly French accent. I have absolutely never heard it pronounced the way you're insisting is correct, so I'd say we're both a little ignorant in this scenario, and I know you can't stand hearing it, but we're both right.

That's funny that people, especially teachers, would modify the pronunciation of a proper nouns like this. I try to avoid doing this as much as possible , at least for European names. With some Oriental names I can understand that it's much more difficult. I love hearing how different fan collector pronounce the names of certain fans. I was hoping Lancelow would not come out as Lancelotte in English. I remember some collectors are still uncertain on how to pronounce Ku Hsing. That's a good example of a Oriental name.

Why is your Lady Delta High Medium Low?
@vfandm
@vfandm 7 жыл бұрын
Someone else got into it before I got it. Again, on a long list of things to deal with, but it's fine as-is so it's at the bottom of said list.
@CeilingFanVideosOnYT

Yeah, if it uses that kind of pull chain that can't have wires swapped to change the sequence, it's really high, medium-high, and low. It would use medium speed AND low speed capacitor for 2nd setting, so it's really medium-high. I can already see medium is faster than medium on most Lady Delta.
