Some comments and observations: 1.) Instructions? Really? Are you an engineer? 2.) Now I know why I can't win anything at the slots in Vegas - Rikon took all the "winning" handles... 3.) Are sure it's a leprechaun inside for the tension marker? It could be a shop gremlin... 4.) So THAT'S why and how I make so many mistakes -- I'm not paying attention to the mistake-ometer.... Thanks for that tip! 5.) Best setup/review video to date! Thanks for the video and for putting up with my "snarky" comments -- that is, if you didn't ban/block me from your channel after reading this.... lol

Speaking as a former technical support engineer for nine years, you will not lose any man points for RTFM (Read The Field Manual, or Read That Fine Manual, or Read The F'ing Manual.) Rikon makes a fine bandsaw. I need to replace a very old AMT 14"er, and Rikon is in the running. Thanks for the entertaining review.

Thanks so much for this informative (and at times, really funny) review. I just took a 175-mile trip Rockler in Kennesaw, GA yesterday to pick this saw up. It was $1200 and I received a $100 gift card to boot. Today I began the assembly process, but it took longer than I had thought to assemble the table because of my own stupidity (screwing the legs INSIDE the top......DUUUHHH). Seeing your review made me glad that I had selected this saw as I think it will serve my needs (primarily re-sawing 2x6's and 2x8's which I receive for free and use after de-nailing them). My wife is a serious gardener and is constantly calling for planter boxes (which I make of the 2x stock after cleanup) and rails on the top to make them look pretty (which is where the need for 1x stock comes in). What started out as "repair these old planter boxes left by the former owner of our house has mushroomed into a never-ending project. At last count we have 43 planter boxes with #44 under construction.

Great review, very informative! I've yet to buy my first bandsaw, but one of these days'that's getting remedied. Because of very limited shop space, I've been looking at Rikon's 10-305 model, the 10" little brother of this saw. What impressed me is the structural integrity of even their 10" saw ... it looks much better made than all the 9" saws made by B&D, Ryobi, et. al. that have crappy plastic sides. Yeah, those other brands of saws may be a little cheaper, but something so wobbly and cheap-feeling has no place in my shop. Even though the 10-305 is a "compact" bandsaw, its wheel housings are thick steel... even the doors... as is the entire frame and base. By way of comparison to the 14" version you reviewed here, the 10-305 runs about $230. Alas, it simply doesn't have some of the fancier features that this 10-324 has. Like, for example, that awesome tight/loose tensioning bar, windowed tension adjustment gage or that very nice round fence rail on the table. Of course, the 14" version is almost four times the price of the 10", so I guess that goes with the territory. Again... Thanks for the awesome review! Given the space and a few extra hundred bucks, it'd be a no-brainer to pick up one of these! Well, BUY, I mean. As you rightly noted, "pick up" is no small task when the saw weighs well over 200 pounds!! .

I found this machine a little top heavy and nearly turned it over on myself. Thank God that it wasn't running! To solve the problem, since my shop is in the basement, I got a screw eye bolt, drilled appropriate hole in the top of saw. Then two screw eye lag screws into two floor joists and attached it via two turn buckles from opposite directions. It is solid now. It was an accident waiting to happen!

Looks like a very nice upgrade. I’m sure you’ll get a lot of use out of this. Nice review of it also. That tall fence will come in handy for resawing once you make the adjustment to the table to zero out the wander. That will change and need to be redone when you use other blades.
@FishersShop
@FishersShop 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah this bandsaw came with a resaw blade but I think it's gotten dull because it started to wander really bad. It wouldn't burn the wood, which made me think the blade wasn't dull, but I couldn't resaw anything without it cutting a large belly. I'm pretty sure I have things set up properly on the saw, but maybe it's a configurational issue. Oddly enough, I can put a small 1/4" 3TPI on and resaw just perfectly... so it makes me think it's the blade.
@dennisfahlstrom7422
@dennisfahlstrom7422 5 жыл бұрын
Fisher's Shop you might decide to add a resawing blade with carbide teeth to your blade stash. They are much pricier than the HSS blades but while I’ve had to sharpen the HSS blades several times and eventually replaced them the carbide blade holds its edge and keeps on cutting well. I’ve cut soft metals with it also.

Great video, love the humor! Good explanation too. I wonder if you would make another video after you've had the saw for a few months and have done quite a bit of re-sawing on it and tell us what you think of its re-sawing capabilities. I'm saving to buy a new 14" bandsaw this year and I'm debating between this one and the Laguna 14/12. Thanks for sharing this great video!
@FishersShop
@FishersShop 6 жыл бұрын
After doing a bit of resawing on it, I've determined that the saw is great... however the blade isn't. The stock blade has apparently lost it's edge and it wants to wander now when doing resawing. It didn't used to do that right out of the box so I think it's just gotten a bit dull. Aside from just having to keep a sharp blade, I love the saw. Had I know how much of a chore it is switching blades and resetting all the guides, I would have spent the extra cash and gotten the next step up model that has features that simplify that process.
@stryker2764
@stryker2764 6 жыл бұрын
Ah yes I've read that the blade change and set up is tedious on this model. I think for that reason I would go with the Laguna 14/12. which is said to be an easy blade change. Thanks for your feedback. :)

On my Ricon 14 inch I first assemble the base and place it on a rolling mobile base and use my chain hoist to lift the saw and maiered it to the mobile base
@ZakAmbrose
@ZakAmbrose 7 жыл бұрын
loved to watch you unpack and get the saw up on it's base. I too did this alone, but was able to rig a makeshift pulley assembly to my suv's ski rack and inner back mesh hooks, lowering the saw down onto the pre-assembled base which I attached to the roller base I had purchased and bolted the assembled legs / base of the saw to. I recommend this approach if you're unloading alone into a garage ( not a basement)... --- Cleaning and saw maintenance as I've learned the hard way. --- for those purchasing a saw for the first time ---- Suggest spraing down the entire saw, especially the heavy table with "Glide-Cote" (Bostik). If you are new to using stainless / steel tools, please be aware that ALL tools benefit from providing them with a protective coating (Not WD40) that will not stain your wood when sliding across, but will provide for much longer tool life. If using in a garage with vehicles, try to store away from any engines that would / will give off steam / head and moisture when being pulled into the garage, away from any water fixtures, etc... May seem obvious to some, but tools will rust in almost any environment that isn't air tight with 0% humidity. Not being aware of this need for most all tools, now have a box of my cheap / disposable files / worn and torn bits / saws, and a tool box for all of my router bits / dremel bits, dove-tail saws, drill bits that all receive monthly refurbishing / inspection as I've found over the time no matter how / what a "stainless" steel finish may claim to be able to fend off the elements and remain sharp / crisp, there is always a level of moisture in the air, even in a garage which will eventually allow rust to creep in and dampen the effectiveness of your primary source of joy / a refined cut / shaving / route... Over time this will actually save you time and money replacing and / or having to discard your once favorite instrument for precision creativity. I wish more people had told me about this when I was getting started, I would have saved several of my favorite / sentimental saws and router bits... - For all those whom are just getting started in their new passion as I have been... Hope this helps save someone the time and money I have had to spend repurchasing bits / files and the more delicate of carving instruments.

Thanks for the review. Up until I saw your review I had not seriously considered Rikon. Now I have gone to a local Woodcraft store to look at one. They had just sold the model you have. Then over the weekend the Video Woodworkers show was in Skiatook OK and I talked to a number of creators who told me this was a very good band saw. Now that you have had it about a week, do you still like it as much as you thought you would. Based on past sales at Woodcraft I will have to wait a while to get it on sale. But that gives me time to save the cash. Great video.

I have this saw and I cant get a straight resaw cut out of it. No idea what I'm doing wrong. Came here to find some help, found some humor, so it's okay. I will tell you that I dug out an old weightlifting belt when I lifted it up on its base. Bearhug and a squat got it done.
@FishersShop
@FishersShop 4 жыл бұрын
Getting a straight cut relies on a number of things. Sharp blade and guide bearing settings mainly. First, slide both your thrust bearings backs on the upper and lower set. Then adjust your blade so it cutting teeth ride on the center of the tire. Then move all your guide bearings up so they're a hair away from the blade. Try your cut again then.

My saw is temperamental due to the fact the I have her on a roller base and have to move her in and out of garage. I would obviously recommend to any is encountering the same scenario to mark out where you pull your saw out to and make sure to always position you saw in the same place is you're not into constant alignment of your table to get true 90deg. resaws, locking the "feet" into a secure position to increase your chance of keeping your table at a true right angle. - Just trying to save those whom would go through the same learning curve I am.....

Questions - After 1.5 years, are you still happy, happy, happy or do you think a few hundred extra dollars for the 326 would have been a better investment? Is there a different bandsaw you would purchase today? Are you paying the leprechaun under the "bandsaw table" or is he 1099'd? Thanks Drew, you are a fine man, God Bless.

Good question... I think I would have splurged a bit more to get the next model higher. In the next higher model they added convenient thumb knobs to quickly adjust guide bearings without the need for an allen wrench. There's also some other features, but that's the one that stands out. But yes... I'm very satisfied with the saw and don't have buyer's remorse at all.

@@FishersShop Thanks Drew. I'll be resawing mostly I think. $400.00 for feature, hmmm. Table, motor, knobs, adjustments, that's what make it fun. No wrong choice, just choice. Thanks for the help man. I really appreciate you! God Bless...Q

Nice video. I was considering another saw but now will take a harder look at this one. I need a saw that I can easily change the blade. How is it in that category.
@FishersShop
@FishersShop 7 жыл бұрын
It's not too bad, actually. The 10-326 model (1 step up from the 10-324) has easy to use thumb screws to adjust the guide bearings where I still have to use an allen wrench, but that's not really a big deal. The blade comes out easiest if you have enough room to open up the cabinet doors ALL the way (which I don't, but it still works... just needs a bit of finesse). Admittedly, the first time I changed the blade, it was quite a chore adjusting all the guide bearings. Now when I do it, I'm done and ready to go in 5 minutes. Definitely give Rikon some thought. After having the saw and using it a while, I'm still super happy with my purchase. No buyer's remorse at all.

Yeah, I like it. I bought the tool-less bearing retro-fit kit for it and that makes it much nicer and easier to change blades. Resawing has been great. The fence is real nice and I've never once bogged down the saw.

You should get an act together and move to Las Vegas. Funny. Moving heavy stuff by yourself is tough. I was able to lift my table saw by putting a heavy duty I bolt in a beam in the ceiling of my basement. I used (2) heavy tie down ratchet straps under the saw table top to lift it. Hooked both strap hooks into the same I bolt. Worked great.
@FishersShop
@FishersShop 7 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea... the lifting part, not the Vegas part. Hah! In hindsight, I should have just laid down some cardboard/blankets and assembled everything on its side. Probably would have been easier. But then you would have missed me doing my Superman flex after I finally lifted it. Thanks for watching!
