Hey Jan, great video - thanks. Question - maybe for another video... How do you handle large amounts of meta field data and metafield localization (like care instructions). There are some bulk editors in the app store but most of them are not of much use, as the reference fields are some cryptic GIDs and therefor basically incomprehensible in itself and not usable for mapping to exisiting as well...

There is no real comparison on the Shopify page, just marketing stuff. - Also I still don't understand how a development team setup looks like for Shopify? In another video you touched on this topic. But to me it's not clear how to work on production and development env. when you are editing the Shopify backend?

Hey Özgür, great questions :-) So Shopify plus has lower transactions fees ( if you have a high order volume it pays for itself) and also a few other features. For example you can edit the checkout, or you’d also have better options for wholesale. As for the development workflow, I’d use a theme copy as your staging environment. You can use Themekit or the Shopify cli to connect a theme with your local code editor. (Vs code for instance) Hope that already points you in a good direction :-)

The new 2.0 facceted filtering system removes tags completely, so what i wanted to know if we could add filter by metafileds in the big shop filter system? Hey Anh, Thank you for your feedback, you can edit the code of the theme unless you didn't purchase it yet 😄. To hide the meta field if blank you can use the following code: {% if product.metafields.sensitivity != 'blank' %} {{ product.metafields.sensitivity }} {% endif %} Hope this helps :-)

First off i want to try and define my custom sales (side line for actual pre made products) i.e. when a customer orders a custom item I have print time, material and design fee (all listed as products currently) so my top seller is now print time. and the second thing i want to do is a color picker with pictures of printed color swatches because i can only get set colors on my filaments and they vary from batch to batch. so I think that I might be able to get a work around with the meta objects.

Hi Jan, I am very much new to all of this and not a Developer by any means however, I'm learning with your help. My question is regarding attributes. Say for instance the different attributes that Facebook or Ebay require, Can Metafields be used to accomplish this for XML & CSV? Can there be say fb_product_category as a metafield that FB would recognize in the feed? Currently shopify doesn't have entries for quite a few FB required attributes. Hi Aziz, Shopify has metafields for variants, if you want the metafield to hold images you can select the file option And to change it dynamically you will have to edit the theme.js file(generally called) of your theme. Hi Jan! Thanks for your videos! Very well done!! Is there a way to set up a metafield that supports HTML code? We have a lot of product descriptions and we want to style them: texts, tables, lists... (I've watched your video about "SPLITTING" the content of the "description" field. Since we would have to do at least 4 SPLITS, this approach doesn't seem practical to us. We also want to avoid changing the theme's liquid code. We were told this is not update compatible. Is that true?) Thanks a lot!

Amazing! Thank you so much for doing this video. You are an amazing teacher because you explain things in a way that is easy to follow and understand. I am struggling with trying to get a metafield to render HTML on the front end. When I choose the text (multi-line) for the metafield type I can type text but I can't type in any HTML. Shopify told me that I needed to choose the JSON option which just gave me a JSON code box that didn't let me type HTML code. I am sure with Shopify it is way too much to ask that a metafield give you a WYSIWYG editor but is it possible to have it render HTML?

@@nishmamaskey1093 Hello - yes! Apparently, it only works on the SINGLE LINE text option (WHY? no clue). A wonderful KZbin member named Bloom Lifestyle figured it out and shared it on a video I had uploaded to show Shopify what the issue was. Even Shopify couldn't sort it out so BRAVO to BLOOM!!!

Hi Jan, Love the 2.0 sections everywhere and the dynamic metafields on the product page. But is there a way to add this functionality to regular pages and blogs as well? I need to build 120 pages in shopify which are not related to selling. Therefore I would like to make use of the sections everywhere. And build 1 or 2 good templates and fill these templates with the use of dynamic metafields on pages. I prefer to do that then to build 120 different templates and link them to 120 different pages. Hey Kai, 😀 Yes that's a great strategy 🙌🏻 You can create new page templates and use metafields on the pages If the normal metafields aren't enough for you can also use a third party app like metafield guru Have a nice day!

Hello. Your videos are super helpful! I have a couple questions, though. We had a developer build some custom sections for us for use on the product page template. Most of his custom sections do not have the option to use a dynamic data source. For example, he created a section with a full width image. I would like to add a metafield to feed in this image depending on the product. However, I do not have the option to use a dynamic data source in that section. Why is that? Or, how do I go about telling the section to use a dynamic data source? I know we do have shopify 2.0 because other sections do have the option to choose a dynamic data source. Just some of the ones the developer created do not. Thanks so much for any help you can provide!
