Someone asked if I have to do the wiring for this, and now I can't seem to find the comment... thanks KZbin. but to answer your question no I didn't have to the motor was luckily all wired up for me nice and easy, but I did have to get it from a different source I think the ones from artisan supplies you have to get wired up! Thanks for the comment mysterious person!

Just been on the fence, was going to get a 72 inch version, because every knife maker uses a 72 right, then the shop offered me the delux 48 at a really good price...so now tearing my hair out trying to decide.
@craftedbytimyt5 жыл бұрын
personally I think the 48 is perfectly capable ...... BUT if you can afford the 72 and your not going to be putting off your making, then I'd suggest going for something a bit bigger and more powerful, that being said if your going more hobby knife making over production line, you may want to go for a 48 so you don't cry as long if you accidentally break/cut a trizact belt, trust me 😞

What ho motor are you using? I’m getting one of these but then I was thinking should I get the 2x72 version? I like the design and looks of the 2x48 and would there really be much of a difference in power and performance?
@craftedbytimyt4 жыл бұрын
I would say if you got the money go for the 72" it will rip off a lot more material a lot faster and belts should also last a fair bit longer, as for the motor I'm using this one: www.machineryhouse.com.au/E084 it's a 2.5 hp motor and runs alright but I wouldn't mind a bit of extra rpm so I would recommend getting the one that you can get with the grinder or an equivalent, and of course if you a faster motor I would also suggest getting a VFD (Variable-frequency drive) it will run you back quite a bit more but if you want a good quality longer lasting motor you wont regret it. this is what I'll probably upgrade to after this one burns out: www.artisansupplies.com.au/product/wired-and-programmed-2hp-motor-and-vfd-package/

I really like the knife that you made its got a really cool shape to it! I was planing on getting a new belt grinder but now that i know that they cost about a grand i dont know if i sould, are there any cheaper ones out there?
@craftedbytimyt6 жыл бұрын
thanks for the comment! As far as 2x48 inch grinders I don't believe there are any cheaper new ones out there but you might luck out with a used one, that being said there are conversion kits available for angle grinders and there are also smaller grinders available (1x29" or 30") for about 200 dollars but I can't really say much about them because I've never used one. The other option is you could make your own if you were really struggling to find a good one but it all depends on if you are happy enough with the grinder that you have now. hope this helps but if you have any further questions don't be afraid to ask, happy crafting!

@@craftedbytimyt ok yeah ill have a look at one of the smaller ones, but why didn't you make one rather than buy one? Wouldn't that be cheaper?
@craftedbytimyt6 жыл бұрын
@@idontknowu6422 I had the thought to make my own but I wasn't too sure how well it would go, there was a lot of different videos and instructions on how to make your own but I know if something went wrong and not everything was perfectly square then I could very quickly break belts, furthermore the belts can also wear down the wheels very quickly if not square. There are risks and if you don't have the proper machinery to make the parts it could be more expensive than its worth, then again it might go perfectly fine! best of luck if you do decide to give it a try! you'll have to let me know how it goes.

@@craftedbytimyt i dont know if id make one but i think ive got someone in my local area selling one of the 1x30 inch grinders... not to sure if I wanna go for that one but its only 90 bux so yeah thats not bad
@craftedbytimyt6 жыл бұрын
@@idontknowu6422 Yeah I'd say that's pretty good but I still can't say much about how well they run or anything, best of luck anyway let me know if they are worth doing a review on and I might get around to doing that when I get a little bit more money!

How has your machine held up over time? Still getting great results?
@craftedbytimyt5 жыл бұрын
really good results, still very happy with, would have to recommend ceramic belts to go with it, they absolutely eat material and last a long time too!

whats the guide/ angle iron you are using? is that to get an even bevel on the blade? can you give me closer pics please?
@craftedbytimyt5 жыл бұрын
yeah the bevel jig I made is a little bit sketchy in this video but I did make another one this one I show how to make one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4CplXigjNWipZo this one I got way better at grinding and found a bit of a life hack when it comes to these sorts of jigs: kzbin.info/www/bejne/faG6qJRjlNOFptE but in this video I just kinda went ham and made the best one I could, which by the way I am super happy with and gives me excellent results, but I was pushed for time so I didn't actually show the process of how I made it (which I'm still kicking myself for) but its very similar to the first video kzbin.info/www/bejne/inS7eKdjmr1oosU hope these help, best of luck and happy crafting mate!

What vfd you got running on it? And does yours bogg down at all? Got the 1.5hp motor on mine and it boggs down to nearly stopping when you put metal on it to grind it.
@craftedbytimyt4 жыл бұрын
you are probably pushing too hard, that being said it can also do with what belts you are running but I haven't been able to bogg it to that point. I don't have a vfd I'm hoping to get one when this motor dies (just haven't had the cash for that) then I'll probably upgrade to a faster motor at the same time as it doesn't remove material as fast as I would like
@aaronroby49054 жыл бұрын
@@craftedbytimyt hi tim is this normal with the shop 48 grinder and the 1.5hp motor feel like it should take alot more and it boggs down on aluminium on a 50 ceramic blue belt is that normal ? Or should i get a 2 hp motor im getting told by gameco that 1.5hp motor is plenty to do what i need to do with but im rethinking i should get a 2.5 or 3hp motor and a vfd that exceeds 60 hertz and have vector mode on the vfd to have enough to get through the metal just my thoughts.
@craftedbytimyt4 жыл бұрын
@@aaronroby4905 Well I'm not going to lie I don't know heaps about this sort of thing but I am running a 1.5 motor without a vfd, I imagine if your rpm is too slow that could have something to do with how much it boggs down, if you can afford it though, everyone that I have spoken to about it without a doubt says that you should go at least 2.5hp with a vfd, but like I said if they aren't motors for this specific task in mind maybe check the rpm and the recommended rpm of your model grinder. I hope this helps but I'm really not too sure about this sort of thing, good luck!

which model is the grinder is fixed speed or variable
@craftedbytimyt5 жыл бұрын
this one is a fixed speed one, I don't have a vfd for it yet but I'm starting to think that I don't really need one yet but when I do get one I'll get a new motor too, thanks for the comment, I hope this helps!
