Renkon is one of my favorites. It can be hard to find here, and usually I only see it around New Year. My mom used to stir fry it with dry ebi when I was young. 😋 I do not do year end cleaning but I grew up helping my mom. She always said whatever happen on first day of the new year is how the rest of the year will be. So we don’t spend money, stay with family, eat well, don’t argue and have a clean house. 😊

We usually do all of our cleaning right at the start of the new year! That way we can just relax and enjoy eachother during the holidays. I have a VERY VERY long list of cleaning to do 😭😮‍💨 its hard to always get to everything with a 1 and 4 year old to tend to 😅 wish me luck Linna!

Thank goodness for Amazon...at least I can get some of the Asian items I want...just ordered Oyster Sauce, Potato Starch & a few other items, earlier today! I spent just over 2 years in Germany too, when my late hubby was stationed there too...I still order ChristStollen every year for Christmas!! I love red bean Mochi...I got hooked on it, when I lived in Korea...still buy it online. I love your apron too, it definitely protects your clothing very well. Heated vinegar works even better to remove lime scale. I dampen a small cloth with vinegar, and then microwave it. I then wrap the cloth around the faucet.

In your videos and others I've seen Lotus Root used in recipes and I got to wondering about its taste and texture. Is the texture like a potato, but it stays crisp even after boiling? I want to try it now.

Yes! They are still crunchy after cooked. I would say the texture taste like apple but not as sweet 👍

I wonder if the golden kiwi will be cheaper in their home country? One small kiwi for 100yen or sometimes more is quite costly for me 😅 Lotus roots has very crunchy texture even after cooked, naturally sweet , but really light 😁

Every time I see daiso I miss having one nearby. Sych handy things you can get there. We have the same problem with teh windows, so I have to take of the moisture every morning. So much work. I buy the same bathsalts from those hotsprings on amazon. I love them! I love ebi chili. Sometimes I make it at home, but it is so much work to get plump shrimps. sometimes I yous chicken coated with starch so my husband will eat it but it is way easier and quicker to make it with scrambled egg (and perhaps wiener sausages). It's an easy meal then :) ANd I always save the broccoli core, either for stir fry or to make a simple broccoli soup. Usually I soak the renkon in water with some vinegar but never added it to the water while cooking. I'm going to try that next time. I'm going to the Asian supermarket so I hope they have renkon and gobo. I want to make some things with it for new year's. And we love nanban zuke here, but never tried making the sauce with black vinegar. Since I love the kuro su chicken from Ootoya I'm going to try your recipe for nanban zuke next time :)
