My Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is going soon and i'm looking to replace it. The extreme potential in the Ferrari F12 TDF and today i'm beginning my journey of exploring F12 TDF options and comparing it with the new Ferrari 812 Superfast...which is a strong contender in this series!

The big issue with something like a TDF (and other limited run supercars) is you're paying a premium for exclusivity for a wonderful driving machine. However if you drive it and put miles on it you erode it's value exponentially. So buy one if you don't actually want to drive it unless you're bothered about dropping £100K+ per 5k miles. The only car that seems to materially buck this trend is the GT3. It doesn't seem to matter if they are driven. We have a strange market where Ferraris with any kind of mileage north of 20K miles become very unappealing for resale. If you actually want to drive and enjoy the car then an 812 or a Lusso V12 is probably a better proposition. Particularly if you're considering 2000 to 3000 mile continental jaunts.

Well there's different perspectives when buying cars especially the limited ones One is wanting to buy it then enjoy the hell out of it and the other is for the sake of collecting and storing it in the garage, if you've bought it with the intent of using it then you wouldn't care how much money you'll lose.

That's fine if you're on the list to buy new from factory and take advantage of the 200%+ uplift in market value. And a handful of owners do just that, you only need to look at ""il Mostro" the matt green TDF, that will get driven, but even after being driven it will still be worth double what the original owner paid rather than triple if it wasn't driven. If he even wants to sell it, which is unlikely. James hasn't yet reached "The list" as far as Ferrari is concerned, so if he wants to enjoy a TDF he'll have to pay maybe 2 or 3 times list price for the car, then swallow circa £100k per 5,000 miles if he drives it. That's assuming the current asset bubble that we're in doesn't burst and these "modern collector" cars don't drop 50% of their value due to outside market forces. The bottom line is if you're wealthy enough that £750K simply doesn't matter, then go for it. If £750K is a lot of money to you and the thought of the car being potentially worth, £650k or £550k or £450k is not palatable then it's not a viable option. Ultimately it comes down to your own personal financial comfort zone. My prediction, James won't buy one, mainly because he has a canny business mind and as desirable as this car is (and it is very desirable) there is currently far more potential downside than upside. We're at peak market or possibly beyond it as some TDF values have begun to slide and there have been a couple of high profile auction no sales of TDF's lately. Fundamentally all the same reasons he's not driving a Carrera GT.

I actually think a normal f12 is still the best value car in the whole entire car market. If the spec is right you can pretty much share the tdf experience and a comfortable gt while spending 1/4 of the money. F12 with buckets, lightweight wheels a edgier road and track alignment on cup 2/pirelli corsa/michellin ps4 and the car will become another experience ..

Now THAT is the Ferrari for you, James. Even if I had the funds to afford a LaFerrari, I would still buy a TDF first without a question. In my opinion the F12 TDF is one of the most beautiful and savage Ferraris ever. And it would be a fantastic investment.

Honestly, I would sell the Speciale and go with a Speciale Aperta due to your lust for open top and the fact that it's the last rare NA V8 Ferrari. The TDF is amazing looking but the 812 superfast is also an NA V12 and said to be a better overall car. Plus it would save you some cash.

It's a lot of money but they will never take a dump in value. With cars like that you will always be able to make money on them unless you put gobs of miles on them, crash it etc. I've been saying from day one many many months ago when the TDF was launched that you should get one. You would be the only KZbinr to ever have had one. Nobody has ever posted any good content while owning one. Can you imagine if you had this next to your old Speciale?? It would be the best matching tandem in the world. Your Speciale was BY FAR the best Speciale I had ever seen, and its still the best I've ever seen because of the amazing spec. I know it took forever to get, but you got the spec absolutely perfect on it. Also, it would be nice to order and be able to spec your own 812, but do you really want to wait another 2 years for a car? I would buy this TDF, then when the new 812 TDF is announced in a couple more years I would try to upgrade to that one from this one. But seriously, if you got rid of at least the F12 in order to get this, I would be all over it if I were in your shoes.. I assume the Speciale would need to go to, but being the TDF is my favorite sub $3,000,000 car, I would do whatever necessary. The spec on this one is 100% perfect too!! Like I've said many times over the past month, do it James!!!

The F12 has, for me , the nicest Front in Generall / Headlights of all modern Ferraris ever. Its so Beautyfull . I have been in Frankfurt IAA in 2015 and outside somewhere on the IAA Messe Square where all the attributes are , there stood a F12 NOVITEC in Red . Man that was a dream .. 22 Inch at the Back and 21 Inch at the Front .I was amazed..

I'm the only one that thinks that this car is overpriced? I mean, almost every Ferrari is overpriced, but this new ones, hell man... Most of the owners are so afraid to drive their cars because of that, because any damage or to much mileage is a big problem , and there goes the value. Makes a lot of sense for you getting a left hand drive car for road trips and what not. I tend to dislike the track focused versions purely because of aesthetics, as I consider it to be the most important factor. That being said, I get why you love them so much and I respect it. I'm not a fan of the TDF bumper compared to the normal, but it's still better looking than the 812. Ps: another thing which makes me dislike track versions is the use of alcantara, as I'd never have it on one of my cars.

I stod next to 2 TDFs and 2 Laferraris today in Sweden😂 and saw a FXX-K hooning it on track. Trust me that car sound absolutely mental. Made the P1 GTR that was there to (lol) seem calm and gentle😄👍 just a regular day.. ohh and a F40 was chilling there aswell. And a Laferrari aperta.. whatever..

Hi JWW, good for you to consider the TDF. Am fortunate owner of one, and I drive it - 5+K miles on it already. As you say, it is MENTAL, but not in a CGT kind of way (like Chris Harris and other reviewers have said). It is mental in that the VISCERAL QUOTIENT of the car is THROUGH THE ROOF! I have had this car on track and skidpad and this cars traction control is the BEST I have ever experienced. I also have 16M, Speciale Aperta, etc. Tried all the traction control settings and it gets progressively WILDER the more you free it up. At CST Off (all off), this is when the TDF takes on the CGT nature of SIDEWAYS EVERYWHERE. However, out of respect for the car, this is not one to drive with Traction Control OFF for some time to come. and, it will come :) Traction control is not intrusive, car SOUND is UNBELIEVABLE!! It sounds MENTAL, windows up or down!! The all wheel steer really shrinks the car around you. Driving dynamics and speed will give Enzo a run for it's money, period. No question, do it James!!!

+Targa Florio Engine noise the 812 is on par, and it's a more usable variation of the platform. Aesthetically i prefer the TDF however the 812 is growing on me SO much. Plus it's half the price and I could spec one how I like 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sorry Shaun but the difference between the F12 and 812 goes far beyond the usual psychological mechanism of familiarity. The 812 is objectively uglier than the F12 from the front. The back, sides, and interior are definitely more subjective and you're right people will probably get used to that over time.... but that face man, they fucked that one up royally.

Swap your speciale for that tdf! If you still had the old speciale which was way better speced that the one you have right now! If you still had one with strips I would say keep the speciale and buy the tdf cause they would match with the stripes. But yea the speciale without stripes is bit underwhelming so get that tdf! And a left hand driven tdf would be perfect for a new base located in monaco :)

Well, a TDF would be a big investment, but since there're only 799 world wide, maybe it's gonna pay off in the future (plus it's a left-hand drive). I like the craziness of such cars where the 812, instead, is "ordinary" and tries to keep you safe as much as it can.

I'd say go for the TDF(what a gorgeous car), then start doing a lot of killer content with it and hope to earn enough to buy a 812 in two years :D Problem solved! Jokes aside I believe that you are going to read a lot of comments, think about it and don't know exactly what to do but the minute you'll try the TDF you're gonna fall in love with it and you'll buy it right away :)

given how expensive they are at the moment, I would wait a few months to see if prices drop. If they don't just buy, use it sell it on for a little more money and juml to the 812. This way you will get to experience both great ferrari V12s

I'm a big fan of the F12 TDF but have you considered a 599 GTO? Hard core 599, v12, front engined and limited to less models then a TDF, potentially a similar car with better prospect of an investment as the value has settled. Whilst the TDF could drop in value as the 812 is released.

Never loved the tdf but that is the best spec I've seen. Tdf over 812 as more expensive to buy but will hold value.
