Tourists buy baju kurung and baju melayu at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (Jalan TAR/TAR market), Jalan Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We were wondering where to buy affordable and cheap baju raya in KL, and we found them there.
Baju kurung and baju melayu are Malaysian traditional clothing. Most people wears during Hari Raya celebrations. Aside from Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Hari Raya Aidiladha (commonly called Hari Raya Korban or Hari Raya Haji in Malaysia) is one of the biggest Muslim celebration in Malaysia. So we want to look our best when we "balik kampung" to Melaka with Abang Ajib.

You guys really do your research. We have two Hari Raya, One is called hari raya puasa. Puasa means fasting = Ramadhan. So Hari Raya Puasa is celebration after one month fasting. Two Hari Raya Haji. Haji = pilgrimace. This time Muslim going to Mecca for our pilgrimace (not year 2020). Its story of sacrifice by Prophet Abraham and his son, Ismael. They succeed in their test, and God replace it with an animal for slaughter. Hope you have a blast hari raya

@@zamrutfazilah5974 I think you are right. I didn't realise it initially, because the pattern of baju kurung is the same from the front or the back, except for the neck. Ivana and Steve, this neck style is called 'teluk belanga'. There is a slit at the front of the neck. Usually the top of the slit is fastened with either a button or a brooch. The is a variety of baju Melayu for men with teluk belanga neck and look similar to baju kurung. The baju Melayu teluk belanga originally from Johor. Do not let this dishearten you, Ivana It's all a process of learning. By the way, I still think you look good in that baju kurung.

For eid adha raya celebration quite different. East coast and North Malaysia are usually more happening than southern malaysia. For southern malaysia during eid adha we usually did less house visiting just one or two. No 'duit raya' and shorter public holiday.

Khairil Izhan Azizan Understandable. We choose where to go based on places that are well reviewed, popular with locals and from research on where we can get good versions of dishes we want to try. Sometimes they overlap with videos that have already been made, but these are popular for a reason. We would love to try even more off the beaten path local spots too, but sometimes they can be too far out for a Grab ride since we go to these places on our own.

The 1st step to buy hari raya clothes, set the color theme. It is trend nowadays for 1 whole family wear same color or same design from parents to children. So during open houses we easily recognised which family or who's kids..

Good choice on going to Masjid India, my family used to buy from there every year because it was cheap. Nowadays, raya clothes are getting more and more expensive because of designer brands or trends but at the same time they offer good quality (silk or batik sourced from local artist). RM200 to RM300 is the standard in the last few years especially for ladies kurung because most of the beading/lace work is by hand. One tip from a daughter that's been ironing 3 mens worth of baju melayu every raya, iron the baju melayu with starch spray to make the clothes look crisp and last longer. I've been binge watching you guys since I found your channel. Keep it up! Also have you guys tried banana leaf rice? One of the videos Steve mentioned he likes bitter gourd, there's a place in Bangsar called Sri Nirwana Maju that has the best fried bitter gourd when its fresh off the fryer. That, mixed curry and the mutton varuval is the best combo for this dish (in my opinion).

Sri Nirwana Maju in Bangsar..yes good recommendation for banana leaf rice and roti canai..I love it but I not know any buses to get there...way too far to walk there from Bangsar LRT

Ivana, normally Malay ladies do not buy baju kurrung off the rack like all my 5 sisters do, they would buy fabric, mostly 5 metres and had them sewn by their favourite saemstress/tailors. But maybe time had changed, the Y gens definitely got them ready to wear.
