Fan noise from the side lol 😂 what you are measuring is the noise of the wind hitting the microphone 😂 so the unit itself is much quieter 😉. Ps that’s why people put wind muff on their microphone to cut the wind noise 😜

Exactly! Measuring wind blowing across the microphone. Decibel reading was jumping all over the place!

I seem to remember one of Ryobi's fans being taken apart in a video and there was a small wall wart inside that was converting the AC to DC for the original hybrid fans. If that's right, the new power brick system I'm guessing would be better. It should be cooler in the open.

I would stick with the older 18v fan since I have the batteries and the ability to plug an extension cord is superior.

The fan is blowing directly into the mic of your phone for that decibel test.

I have the 18v 14" and 18". The 14" moves more air and is louder than the 18". I don't know why Ryobi rates the 18" at a higher cfm because it isn't even close? Fyi, they do spin slower if not using high output battery.

How is the 14” still holding up? We do a lot of vendor events and we picked it up to help deal with the summer months. Sitting under our table, the sound was never an issue, even on 3. I’m just hoping this thing lasts.

@@krisaskew5801 I haven't had any issues yet. Both fans use a lot of battery, even the 9ah. Having a plug nearby would help.

Geez. Looks like regression and not progression. I got an ego misting fan for $111 clearance at Lowe’s, 5000 cfm and claimed 42 db (setting 1). Outside of that, I’d say the old Ryobi 18v would be the Best Buy.

My only real critique is to use a proper sound meter for a "review". Phone mics are not a good representation and also do not have a wind baffle to prevent what likely caused your high readings while in the path of the air volume moved by the fan. Thanks for the information otherwise, keep em coming...
@keithfiredive

That was my thought. The fan was probably blowing the mic.

Bit of a downgrade having to carry that brick adapter, can see it getting lost. Have the old 18” fan works great lost the plug but no worries any extension cord works and the fan keeps working plugged into the wall.

What sucks about fan reviews is I can't feel what amount of force of air is coming out. I've taken people's word of how much air a fan puts out then I buy it and I'm disappointed. Forget cfm claims and numbers I wanna know is the air output in this fan more than the 18v before I purchase one because I had the 18v and I was disappointed. Basically does it blow more air than the 18v

The PCL813 - 14" Whisper Air Cannon uses power adapter Model# YLS06511D-T240270 ("brick" = transformer with 24v 2.7a output.)
@james2042
@james2042 Жыл бұрын
Looking at the specs of the 18v and 40v whisper, the 18v has more air flow but the 40v has more air speed (and therefore pressure) so in a wide open spot, the 18v will move slightly more air, but in a tight spot (like a corner) the 40v will win. Also the 40v has a ridiculously longer run time, even when the Wh is equal. The 18v on a 6ah battery would last 7.5 hours, the 40v on a 3ah battery last 10 hours. The added efficiency of the higher voltage really flexing its muscles here, and is showing how the 18 architecture is being pushed to its limit on some of the larger tools ryobi is using it for

Aspect ratio of the blades is also important for noise reduction..I’m not sure how quiet you can make those squared fan blades .. plus if there is any Venturi effect from the shroud it will increase the noise on the back side of the fan

I looked at the battery power of all of the Ryobi models. The Ryobi 40 volt 14 inch Whisper Series hybrid fan has a bigger battery and therefore it would run so much longer for me. So that’s the one I bought for days when I play golf in temperatures above 85 degrees!

The new 18v ryobi whisper series fan has a sticker for their logo that isnt even adhered correctly? I have the old 18v air cannon. In my opinion is better, no power adapter brick, just plug in my extension cord and has higher airflow, of course at the expense of more battery power. I don't care for quietness as I use it around my power tools which aren't whisper quiet like my miter saw, sanders etc. New is nice, but if I were to buy another fan it would be the old air 18v cannon again.

Well I finally have mine and it's still somewhat disappointing like the old 18v because the airflow is pretty much the same. When I had the old 18v I said that high speed should be medium and the high speed should b higher than what's already there. The low speed on this 40v is terrible u pretty much have to be right up to it to feel any amount of air and that's how the old 18v was. Here in the Bahamas now it's very hot and we prefer every fan on high when outside. I figured to it being a 40v it might,ve been more efficient

The only thing that concerns me about a fan is runtime. The runtime on any of the 18v cannon fans sucks. If they can't run 8 hours on high on a 9 ah battery then it's not worth it to me. The best feature is the cordless feature

The new 14 inch , do you notice a delay with you switch it to on Before the blades move? I get a delay after I turn the dial from off to #3 And I hear a slight rubbing sound like the shaft needs oil or something.

I ended up returning the 14” 18V new 5 blade air cannon after 4 days of use, I exchanged it with the older bigger 18” 18v air cannon with the 3 blades the one you have on the right in this video. It was $40 less getting the old model so I was able to pick up a Ryobi Led 3000 Lumen spot light as well. Far as the difference, the sound is a bit deeper more of a rumble sound wave. The new model was putting off 63 decibels on high in my room & the bigger old model gives off 55 decibels on high. They say it puts out more CFM but it feels a bit less air flow than the new one , I think the five blades move air and reflect it more off the walls for a different effect and a louder sound being compact. I don’t use them on battery’s but if I did I would use a 9amp HP and get maybe 4.5 hours run time on high with it. So if the size and price is right you can’t go wrong with either one.

Aerodynamics of the air coming in the back is the difference in CFM between the 40v and 18v 14" fans, the 40v displaces a much larger area in the back. That's what makes sense to me at least
