Well done Doug - that drone has certainly brought a new dimension to your cinematography. Really brilliant video. Good to see you up the Loch again.

Many thanks! Etive always looks really good on a calm, sunny day so the drone pilot is certainly not adding much. Hopefully the days start to draw out a bit before I'm back out on the loch again. Just over 7 hours of "sunshine" at this time of year doesn't give you much time!

A big effort for a night out, well done. The steak looked tasty, not to mention expensive, I expect you put it on the slate. Hope you were comfy in that tent with no groundsheet, the rain sounded wet all right. Thanks for posting.

Hi Ash, it was really quite a nice night to be out - the odd shower but no wind. I was annoyed with myself about that slate, as I hauled it all the way in and then managed to crack it before it even got close to the fire! The cooking worked out better than I expected (never tried this before) so expect a repeat performance at some stage. The One Tigris IronWall is a bit of an odd beast, as it does have a groundsheet and inner tent but this only covers half the tent floorspace. Obviously this is to allow safer use of the stove but it means you have a pretty big footprint for what is really a one man tent (unless you're really good friends!). I have kind of a love/hate relationship with it but it is reasonably light to carry, which is a big consideration if I'm also hauling along the tent stove. Cheers, Doug

Glad you enjoyed it - it's always a bit harder to hike/fish/film and camp when there's so little daylight, but a bit of snow in the background certainly adds to the atmosphere of the place!

Well I reckon I only pulled the trigger on that stove because of Covid boredom. One good thing to come out of global meltdown I guess (until I burn my tent down 😁😁)!

Hi Doug, Many Thanks for another excellent video to help me through these long dark winter nights. Nothing but admiration for your dedication. I personally am so looking forward to the spring time to get out again. Best, Tom.

Many thanks! I find that in winter I look forward to summer, and in summer I look forward to winter! Both have their attractions, although my favourite season is definitely autumn. I really do understand what you mean about looking forward to a bit more light though - I can handle the cold (up to a point!) but 16 hours of darkness can weigh down on you.

Jesus that walk in looked rough. Lovely camp tho! I can’t say I enjoy winter camping too much the long dark hours are a bit annoying for me. Although that wee hot tent set up would certainly make it more fun! Thanks for the rig run through I’ll certainly be trying it out. 👍

It was a good bit harder than previously, not just because of the washed out tracks but also because even fewer people have been walking along them so they get more overgrown. The winter darkness gets to me too, although being able to fish for a few hours after dark whilst getting some food together does keep you occupied. A few more days though and we'll be heading back towards summer - and the midges 😁

That was some slog Doug ....made me glad I fish fae my campervan though it limits marks 😁In general I find fish the bait for the species yer after at Ettive . It’s not guaranteed to work every time but it improves your chances of a mixed bag .👍

I'm often tempted by a campervan, but they're helluva expensive so I'd need to convince my other half. Good for dodging midges though, and I'll probably succumb to temptation when I finally ditch the day job!

Another great video thanks for sharing! 👍 absolutely love it up that way. Would be a bit paranoid using the hot tent on the granite ground up there. Difficult to get a decent pitch for a non freestanding tent especially one with a wood stove. Got the same setup myself but only used it once so far. Looking forward to the snow making an appearance to get full benefit from it. Look forward to seeing more of your videos. Thanks again

It's certainly hard ground there and difficult to get a tent stake in more than an inch or two. On the other hand there are no shortage of granite rocks to anchor down the pegs! I don't think I'd use the stove in anything more than a light to moderate wind, at least until I'm more practiced using it, but it is pretty stable if you guy out the chimney carefully. Not tried it in snow yet, but I might get a chance this year if we can dodge another lockdown.

What tent is it that you are using Doug? I have a larger tee pee with no ground sheet and I wondering what it would like in winter. Cheers for the rig making demo too

Hi Scott, it's a One Tigris IronWall. I bought it specifically to allow me to use a tent stove with it, although there are probably better options out there. It has a half-inner with groundsheet and then the rest has no groundsheet to allow the stove to be used safely. You can remove the inner altogether which would save a little weight, but I've never tried this. I'm really not sure whether the inner helps much in winter or not, but it will certainly cut down draughts in windy weather. If you planned to leave the stove burning all night then it might work OK, but this isn't something I'm planning to do - partly 'cos I don't entirely trust it not to poison me at midnight and partly because you'd need to feed it regularly overnight. The tent is OK and I've used it quite a few times now (not in really foul weather), but I think I'd also check out the competition too, if I was buying again. I have to say that a hot tent is great though, even if it is my lockdown indulgence!
