This is legitimately awesome, especially when you get to the telecaster parts you emulate that sound perfectly while creating a very memorable and original hook. My favorite part is when you hit that deeper sour note (in a good way) at 1:57 and then go into that rolling kind of thing. Great title too!

Telecasters are perfect for the surf rock genre ,although the purists don't seem to think so, but I think that it's got more to do with the absence of a "wiggle stick" than the tone. The Telecasters are real chameleons in the guitar world. They've been used in virtually every genre of music and they do it well. My wife bought me mine and I've done some mods to it and I prefer it to the Strat I used to have because it feels more natural to me because of my playing style. I've never tried out a Jazzmaster or a Jaguar though. Eventually I might...

My ear tells me that both guitars have a very bright sound - this is the result of the selection of guitars by David. The body has a little more percussion in the structure of the sound, and sounds brighter at light overdrive. Jazzmaster sounds a little more blurry, but as far as I know, this is a very bright and authentic instrument, and it should sound that way. Strict equality of two magnificent specimens. Well, of course, David also plays exactly and filigree like a perfectionist. Owns two diamonds.))
@anotherheadlessdemo4 жыл бұрын
Yes, both guitars are very bright - sometimes too bright. They also sound very different from each other! Thank you for the kind words!
@ВладимирИльин-о4к4 жыл бұрын
@@anotherheadlessdemo Excessive brightness of the guitar sound can be reduced by using another guitar cable, and moving the microphone in front of the speaker, and even taking it out of the traditional pickup position, to degrade the positive directivity properties of the frequency response. You can use the top corner of the recording room, there are many positions with different comb filter modes. These are unconventional methods of correction. But you are a performer, and you can use different sounding techniques and plectrum materials. As my friend says: you can get any sound from a good sound, even by changing the position of the combo amplifier and the modes of operation of the speaker head, but not vice versa ... :-)

Hi David. I love your videos, could you help a fellow young broke college dude? I finally got the guts to buy a guitar, I’d love to play these surf rock, jazz, funky vibes chords. I don’t know much about guitars. What guitar do you think I should buy? Fender Squier? Stratocaster? Jazzmaster? I don’t have that much money to spend but I want to get something solid. Thanks!
@anotherheadlessdemo3 жыл бұрын
Squier guitars are very good for the money. You can pick them up used for a more affordable price as well. If you want to play surf, get a guitar with a whammy bar (most Strats and Jazzmasters come with them). For a while now, I've been enamored with Jazzmasters. Very versatile. What's your budget?
@joaobottazzini91113 жыл бұрын
@@anotherheadlessdemo Around $400. Is that good enough for a guitar and an amp?
@anotherheadlessdemo3 жыл бұрын
Yes. You can get a Squier Affinity Stratocaster for $229 and a Fender Champion 20 amp for $130. Both are good if you are just starting out. If you can find them used, they would be a bit less $.

This is kind of funny to me, because I'm looking to replace my Strat which was destroyed in a flood. People keep suggesting I get a Tele, but I'm thinking Jazzmaster. I want to cook up a surf band. I can only afford one cheaper guitar right now. If I could do two, Tele would be one of them for sure. However, with only one, I don't see how I can do surf without a whammy bar. And, in any case, I don't want to get one that needs a bunch of repairs and adjustments right out of the box.
@anotherheadlessdemo3 жыл бұрын
The J Mascis was really good right out of the box. I love mine. The CV Jazzmaster not so much. The nut still needs work. The pickup switch needed to be replaced within 2 weeks of purchase. It really requires a neck shim as well. Ugh, too many problems.

@@anotherheadlessdemo Thanks for the reply! I grew up with bands like The Ventures, and I'm over 50 now. A hot tip like that is handy for folks trying to get back into guitar.

Hi Joseph, I was always a strat person and recently bought a telecaster. You won't be dissapointed, you can do anything with them. The telecaster has wonderful tones and is very basic. Best investment I made. Good luck.
@spottedsaint9573 жыл бұрын
Dick Dale's Strat didn't have a "wiggle stick" and the Telecaster is a great option to a Stratocaster. They're very versatile instruments and although they don't have the built in tremolo/vibrato system it's not hard to install one later down the road. Telecasters have awesome tone and they've been used in virtually every genre of music, which includes punk rock, alternative, blues, rockabilly, jazz, surf, and yes even heavy metal guys use them. Stratocasters , Jazzmasters and Jaguars are cool, but IMHO the Telecaster is THE guitar to have if you could only have one, because of it's versatility.

Totally agree. I sold my vintage Vibrolux Reverb a couple of years ago and I have a '65 Bassman I've never actually gigged with. The Katana is versatile and sounds good at a fraction of the weight and no one is going to really notice a difference!
