Thank you for filming these at an angle it makes seeing what you are doing and following along much easier.

I was stationed there 1970-72 and went to the school in Kin Village across the street from Camp Hansen. I was not much of a student and Sensei Shimabuku gave me a green belt for learning the first six katas. I thought it was rigid to memorize the forms in order and I tried to employ what I called free kata, on base, where you just imagine situations and react with whatever would work. I was not proficient but I think the idea of free kata is good. I made friends with Sensei Shimabuku and helped him at his pig farm and when he and some students dug a well so he could build four chicken houses. I have good memories of him and he led a good life.

Kata is to be enjoyed and understood. It is a method to understand body mechanics. I can't speak for others, however, our training in kata is to learn transitioning moves. Hard to explain, therefore, best for us not to even post a video of the advance version. Kata is to be performed and not to be disussed. The conversation will be seen through the kata.

When I was Senpai to Sensei I always felt it best to compare it to dance moves to the pee wee classes and kids. So you can dance and you know some moves. Kata is a way Karate practitioners learn to dance with all the moves they've learned. Kids understand that, I'm sure adults will too. Did you mean discussed? Seven years and nobody corrected you on your spelling Lol.. They must be afraid you'll find them and, and, teach them Karate the hard way.

When it's slowed down you can really see how he half-asses all his moves. I especially like the sound effects he adds.

Yes, we have two different katas. One for student and one for advance and only practice in the dojo.

is there anyone else concerned with the mix up of shodan and nidan?
@Mark-yn4vl7 жыл бұрын
Some styles have the two reversed. It's not that it's "wrong". It's just how they ordered it.
