Short break, family, cathedral, romans and a dinosaur.

This is a little break we decided to take to see some family, a cathedral, Romans and a dinosaur all within 3 days.

We didn't camp this time as Tobin is a little too little still so we got a cheap deal in a local hotel in Carlisle.
On this short little break over a long weekend we took he opportunity to catchup with family members, who we have not seen for many many years and so they can meet this little man. As they live in Scotland and we live in Northampton so Carlisle was a good compromise for both sides to meet-up.
While in Cardiff we also had the opportunity to tick off another of our cathedrals from the list. While this was not a huge cathedral it was interesting and had quite a nice ceiling. Overall it was a nice little visit to the cathedral even though it was not massive.
During our visit we also went to Vindolanda, this was an unexpected visit and was not planned as we didn't even know it was here. Vindolanda is a huge roman fort which is in ruins but has plenty to see. The ruins are easy to walk but not ideal for a pram so we should have taken the back carrier in hindsight. I don't know how far we walked this day but we did cover quite a few miles while at the site. We did have a little tour group which gave some insight into the site and why it was built and used, so I won't spoil this and you will have to go to the ruins yourself to get eh full history. The visitors centre and little cafe are pretty good and cover a fair amount.
On our way home we decided to stop off and see Dippy the dinosaur as he was in Birmingham and this was on our way so why waste the opportunity and tick this one off our list as well.
