By the time that the military and the civilian 'boats had been completed, there was no requirement for such an expensive-to-run a/c. BOAC would have required a government subsidy and there were plenty of land-based transport 'planes available post-war, and the runways on which to operate them. Shorts and Saro did not have the manufacturing capability to even contemplate a profitable construction run.
