Short Track Racing Highlights: CARS Tour Late Model Stocks at Caraway Speedway 125 Laps (7/3/24)

7/3/24 saw a star filled 26 cars field for The CARS Tour Late Model Stocks! The field included 2024 #Daytona500 winner William Byron in the #24, Craftsman Truck Series stars Corey Heim in the #55 and Layne Riggs in the 62! Also #8 Carson Kvapil and #03 Brenden “Butterbean” Queen hope to continue their streaks of good runs at #CarawaySpeedway
Race Summary: 2023 winner of this race #14 Jared Fryar would grab the pole in qualifying and sit on the front row alongside #8 Carson Kvapil. #14 Jared Fryar would get off to a great start leading the first 15 Laps. #8 of Kvapil would then grab the lead and hold on to it till the competition caution at Lap 45. #8 of Kvapil would retain the lead on the restart. Lap 69 would see one of the wildest moments Caraway Speedway has ever seen as #95 Jacob Heafner would squeeze #55 Corey Heim on to the front stretch wall causing him to ride the wall with the drivers door on the track! Both drivers were okay. A couple laps later on Lap 71 #03 Brenden Queen would almost do the same on the backstretch wall but was bring it back down on the track. This would end his night though. Lap 73 saw #15 Ryan Millington spin coming out of turn 4. Lap 76 saw #16 Chad McCumbee drive a little to hard into turn 1 sending himself and #45 Bryce Applegate around also collecting #6 Bobby McCarty. 10 Laps later we would see our second lead change of the race with #22 Connor Hall taking point. Just when the #22 of Hall was starting to pull away #95 Jacob Heafner would stall out in turn 1 on Lap 118. On the restart it became a 4 car battle for the win and #22 Connor Hall was able to hold off the field till the very last turn. #29 Brent Crews would give him a big shot coming out of turn 4 sending him up the track! With that #29 Brent Crews would leave Caraway with his 2nd CARS Tour win.

I was just sitting, watching races, and thought about sticking throttles. Race throttle systems are so critical, as not much other things can end a driver so instantly as a stuck throttle, the end of a straightaway, and the wall of the upcoming turn. Not a system to be home-fabbed out of steel rod and hardware store fasteners. But racers still do that. Head on impacts are one of if not the leading, causes on highways of fatalities--on tracks, the speeds can easily reach or exceed almost twice those of highway traffic. #rememberadampetty
