Short winter ride on a 1990 Yamaha DT200R

Nice bike, most reliable 2stroke I've ever riden, didn't expect to be so reliable, still use it, mine is 1995. I've own it from 3 years, found it cheap and took risk to buy it. Did 5000 miles on it and still going strong. Every summer did 1000 miles trip across my country, once did trip outside my country crossed border I mean. I even use to ride it extremely like dirt bike, doing jump, pulling wheelies, climbing hills and so. I riden it on highways, maintained speed of 62mph constantly and no problems. But unfortunately I will be forced to sell it soon because lack of part, these bikes and pretty old and rare now. And for 5000 miles I got only changed 2 pistons.

Sounds great, what country are you from? Tbh there are more and more aftermarket parts avaible for these bikes. Seat covers, plastic sets, brake discs and many others. Im planning a little trip myself on the second DT200R I have after full rebuild. Only did 400km on that bike.

​​@@Ch4llenger440 I am from Eastern Europe Balkans Bulgaria. And the trip on another country I talked about was across Greece. You are right, parts you described are available from dumped dt200r's in my country. But there are lack of engine part, only gaskets available, I waited 1 month for piston to be shipped for me. And for the trip you planned some advice from me as experienced. Carry one spark plug and tools for change with you, because these 2 stroke engines often staines spark plugs and the plug loses its spark, it happend to me many times. And always carry good quality 2 stroke oil with you 1 or 2 liters depends on your trip. Because most of gas stations have bad 2 stroke oil available and not every gas station got 2 stroke oils. And if you planning to go on highways like me and I recommend that, because these bikes got lower fuel consumption in high rpms than lower rpms I don't know why and how they managed this for this bike. I mean I got better fuel consumption on 8000 rpms than 4000 rpms. When i go on highways, I go with 62mph constantly on 8000 rpms with 7l/100km consumption. And on lower rpms I got more fuel consumption, and that with off-road gearing. When I go on highway I use fuel oil mix ratio 20:1, it's rich but didn't have problems, I use that ratio because the lower fuel consumption in higher rpms to not wear out the engine much. Nice just how they sound & look everything about the DTR is definitely so cool not like the pigs dressed up in makeup all show no go definitely don't make them like they uster. Nice one top lad

Will that bike run 70 mph consistently in traffic?

Yes, the other one I have after full rebuilt on SM wheels can run 70 consistently although I prefer to keep her at 62. This one has short gearing for offroading and 70 is around the top speed here.

Hi I have a DT200R and sat upright it does 70mph as long as there is no heavy head wind but its happier at 60 to 65, I've had about 75mph but reckon it might do more layed on the tank but dont want to blow it up.
