I still like to use one but they need to make these handhelds much more lighter and focus on battery life. Currently, they are moving in the opposite direction.

The often overlooked thing about the 1600p screen in the Legion Go 1 is the ability to do perfect integer scaling at 800p. I've basically been running every modern / heavy game I play at 800p without the typical blur that comes from lowering the resolution. Something I'm definitely going to miss. But I can understand most people weren't aware of it, ran everything at max resolution, and wondered why the performance was so bad. 1920x1200 should help with that, at least.

800p is the method. I’ve been preaching this for the same reason. People try to Max graphics for no good reason. The screen is 8.8 inches you do not need maximum fidelity 😂

Also, I actually run lots of games I play on the Legion Go at native resolution, and the performance is totally fine if you don’t max everything out. The high resolution screen is something I would not want to give up if I were to upgrade to a newer handheld at some point.

1:06 hear me out. What was awesome about the old screen is that you could set it to 1280x800 and get perfect integer scaling. With 1920x1200 you _have_ to set it to that resolution, setting it to 1280x800 now will get you a blurry setup because it's not native.

@Dumpaloo the best thing for me about it is that I can treat it like a gaming portable console. Just place it on a table with the stand and use controller separately or connect a xbox controller of my choice. So no biggie for me if it's heavy.

my only complain with the Legion Go Handhelds (and I own both an Ally X and a Go) is the lack of software support. I wish Lenovo just would support the OG instead of leaving the OG out to die. I get it, new hardware, new performance margins but the original Go was such a good and fun idea. I just wished they supported it more, than just making it up to us to make it better. (Loseless scaling with integer scaling mode on and the like)

The Z2 Go is basically what everyone was clamoring for instead of the 8840U/Z1E that we eventually got in the Ally/Legion Go/Win GPD/Aya Neo etc.: still 4 cores, beefier IGP. With that, it really feels like the Legion Go S is a true "Steam Deck Pro" update that completes the transition the Deck OLED started. The problem with those others was that while they could outperform the Steam Deck, they always needed more power to do so, 25-30W versus the Deck's typical 10-15, and the battery/cooling ballooned them in both size and cost; hopefully this can maintain/improve on the power efficiency of the Steam Deck. I'd have liked it to shave another $50 to $100 to REALLY be the undisputed value king, but even at $500 it's a great product. I am truly excited to see how this thing performs. If all goes well, I can see the Z2 Go being a drop-in replacement for Van Gogh on an actual Steam Deck Pro (though ultimately I think Valve will want to target maybe one more generation or two's worth of power/performance/BOM gains).

At first I thought the editor who was doing color correction was high on the job; after some research I found that if watching YT on chrome you should disable hardware acceleration in the chrome settings. It makes everything skew hardcore to magenta. Pink Elf Linus was entertaining for a bit though! :D

I bought my Ally directly from Asus instead of Best Buy, and it took all of 30 minutes to immediately regret it. Holding it caused my pinky joints to hurt, and every 3rd party and custom grip attachment couldn't fix it, so I sold it for a nearly 50% loss. The Steam Deck is far and away more comfortable. But we're not the only ones that regretted it. For months after launch, Best Buys everywhere were out of stock on new Allys, but had multiple racks full of open-box returns

sold a 6600xt and a 5800x3d rig with a 360hz monitor w an xbox controller and got an ally x im actually really pleased with it. I had HIGH speculation and iffy expectations. according to many also the legion on paper has better specs than the x but in practice, the frames are better on the ally. that paired with motion blur if the game has it, I genuinely dont miss 360, the form factor and immersion with the hands near the screen is just really neat and im really happy the space is moving

Even if the Legion 2 doesn’t ship with SteamOS, by the time it releases, you’ll probably be able to just install SteamOS onto it anyway. Otherwise, there’s always Bazzite. In any case, a capable device with detachable controllers, decent battery life, OLED screen, I’m practically sold on this thing already. If it comes with hall effect joysticks out of the box, it’ll be perfect, but even then as long as it’s easy enough to tear down, those joysticks could be replaced, so it may not be as big of an issue.

Wow, lucky timing to check the channel. I wonder how the Switch 2's rumored mouse mode is gonna compare to this thing's. I also really like the multi-LED RGB rings around the control sticks; I always wonder if there's anything cool you can do with those (see also: the Intellivision Amico back when that looked like it was gonna be a thing). Decent price for the SteamOS model, too. My only real gripe is that there's still only L4/R4 grips and no L5/R5! Standardize that already, people! P.S. That "oh lord, D-Brand..." got me.
