I really appreciate the accessability of having the chime when the motion sickness warning is over! Even though I don't have to worry about it, that is an amazing way to handle it and I hope to continue seeing that from you and elsewhere!

Ignorant comment here but do you just get nauseous with motion sickness or is there a chance to get a seizure? I get the flashing lights warning that might trigger a seizure but I'm not familiar with the motion sickness side effects. Do you end up running to the bathroom and puke or is it more ominous?
@thdetdestro151
@thdetdestro151 2 жыл бұрын
I was going to go and comment on this actually, I get motion sickness quite easily from high speed constant motion (that covers too much of my field of view) and I was soooo glad when they showed that, I used my peripheral vision to see what they meant and yeah, I probably would have had to look away anyways. so yeah thank you for that, also in my case the only thing would be I would get really dizzy and have to go lie down for a bit, or it might even trigger my positional vertigo. So nothing life threatening like a seizure warning, but also not something I'd like to experience.

The auto input switching being off by default makes sense as there was a huge outcry when their smart TVs came out with it. PlayStation/Switch would "wake" for updates and switch to their respective input in the middle of watching TV/a movie OR turn the TV on.

Part of the reason they can keep SSD prices super competitive is they're vertically integrated. The major components on their SSD (NAND, DRAM, Controller) are made by them. It's less expensive when you don't have to source your components from another vendor that also needs to make their profit. That and Samsung makes some high quality flash and controllers that it's quite common to see Samsung DRAM, NAND, and controllers in a bunch of other SSDs and DRAM modules. Similarly, this is also why Crucial (Micron) is able to have great value SSDs.

So I bought this monitor a while ago at a ridiculously low price believing it to be a massive bargain. Unfortunately, in my multi-monitor setup its firmware seemed to struggle and slow down to a crawl over time until it was eventually unusable. Meaning that it took so long to power on that I was waiting literal minutes. I ended up having to send it back. If you could do some tests with a multiple monitor system to ensure that they've fixed whatever the firmware issues were, I would appreciate it, because otherwise it was a beauty of a monitor.

Linus' last comment on the gpu and monitor affordability did bring up one good point.. Most budget builds on KZbin only bring up the pricing for the pc tower and take out the monitor or kb and mouse.. Even the latest LTT 1000usd build video is guilty of it.. And I know I know people will say we'll reuse the old monitor and other stuff... But that's not always the case... And also isn't it better to suggest an monitor that's perfect for the current config at least and mention how much it will cost us in addition to the pc budget?? For eg. this build will include a 3070 and an i5... Now your best bet is to go for a 1440p monitor/4k monitor at 144hz or plan a 360hz fhd one if you want fps advantage...

If I didn't already have a Neo G9, I'd probably get one of these instead. Partly I dig the overall design, the Odyssey monitors are the only ones outside Apple's and maybe Samsung's M8 that I really like, everything else is either a plain black rectangle or should have stayed a plain black box (looking at you, Asus). And their OSD is fantastic, super clear, intuitive and easy. That said, you gotta be careful with that backlight. I accidentally flicked my brightness to max a few days ago while working and it just about burnt out my eyeballs. Oh, and my work MacBook Pro (last one pre-M1, with the maxed out GPU) can't run it at 240Hz, only 120Hz. It'll be the same with this, 240Hz on either the G9 or G8 requires a very modern GPU to push that bandwidth. Thankfully, Apple has recently resolved the problems with the M1 processors which frequently couldn't support the 32:9 ratio

To everyone who's considering buying this monitor: Sadly the Neo G8 has a very severe scanlines problem at 240Hz! I am a gamer at heart and for gaming this monitor really delivers, it's just amazing! But I'm also doing tons of image and video editing. So I was looking for a "jack of all traits" monitor and this video had me convinced the Neo G8 would be such a display. But the scanlines that are very visible, particularly in the blue tones, make it practically useless in Photoshop - at least at 240 Hz. When you disable adaptive sync and lower the refresh rate to 120 Hz, the problem *almost* goes away, but still it's not great. Also for most Adobe application, if you're running at 240Hz with adaptive sync on, you'll have to disable adaptive sync for the Adobe apps in your driver, or you'll get constant screen flashing. So unless you're okay with having to switch around a bunch of monitor settings between using this display for gaming or for creative work, this really isn't a jack of all traits monitor. But it's a damn fine gaming monitor! Hope this helps some of you. :)

So, Linus thinks VA is superior to QD-OLED? And 16:9 is better than 21:9?
@CodeVenomSnakes

VA is not the problem. Mini led vs QD-Oled monitor and also 16:9 is better because more games use 16:9.

@@CodeVenomSnakes Spoken like someone who has never gamed in a 21:9 screen. 16:9 vs 21:9 is like 4:3 vs 16:9. Wider FOV is just way better for gaming no matter what.

@@CodeVenomSnakes QD-OLED is superior to VA + Mini-LED because OLED is able to turn off individual pixels while Mini-LED has to turn off zones to mimic only a fraction of OLEDs power. I've used 21:9 monitors since 2017. Unsupported games are EXTREMELY rare, & able to be counted with a single hand. 21:9 actually gives an advantage as more information is displayed on-screen allowing for faster target acquisition compared to 16:9 monitors.

@@kajurn791 yes this truth but I mostly play esport games that not support 21:9 as well or none at all.

32:9 is beautiful, and great for Apex. But compatibility can suck. I mean even Far cry 6 doesn't even support it and is zoomed in 😡

They need to release a version with the same specs but with a less aggressive curve...1000r is a little much.

I think VA do benefit from curve as it's also help reduce the effect of poor viewing angle - but yeah, 1000r is a bit too much

I have the G9 and the 1000 R curve works really well, everything is at an equal distance from your face.
