A huge problem with Sony WF earbuds is foam eartips. They degrade with time and need to be replaced. Depending on the use case they need to be replaced every 3 to 12 months. But Sony make it almost impossible to buy original Sony eartips at a reasonable prices. They are hard to find and when found cost about 40-50 dollars for a single pair of eartips. That is ridiculous. Even Apple original eartips for Pro 2 are reasonably priced and readily available to buy. That is why Sony users don't even bother with original eartips. They just use some random eartips from Amazon with unknown properties.

Be wary, the predecessor is plagued with battery issues with some reports of that happening with the WF-XM5's as well. I returned these for several reasons: The ANC heavily relies on the passive noise isolation, which means if you can't get a good seal with the tips, the ANC performance will be subpar. I could not achieve a proper seal without hurting my ears. Running with these with ANC on is annoying because there is an audible plop with each stride (same as XM4s).
@midnightwolf3134 Жыл бұрын
I’ve never heard a pop with the XM4. Might just be really shitty luck.
@Jefafa73 Жыл бұрын
@@midnightwolf3134 I think the "pop" is referring to the buds kind of float in your ear and ONLY rely on the tip size to stay on. Meaning every stride you take the earbud bumps against your ear and the sound is VERY noticeable. I can confirm this is 100% an issue and hardly ever mentioned in reviews. I tested These XM5's against the Bose QC2 and Galaxy buds 2 pro. I really wanted these to win, but ultimately went with the QC2's for the NC, fit, and tighter sound. The default sound is the worst on the QC's, but the bass is noticeably tighter and I can eq any of them. You can't eq tight bass no matter how hard you try.
@midnightwolf3134 Жыл бұрын
@@Jefafa73 Can't say I've experienced this though I do know the XM4s were rather big earbuds and I have bigger ears so they fit perfectly in my ears. Even if it's just the tip sitting in there. I guess we can say your mileage may vary.

Another issue moving from the XM4s to the XM5s is the noise cancelation is actually worse in some situations. The XM4s have an option for automatic wind noise cancelation that works beautifully. However the XM5s have a new design with a new microphone location Sony believes eliminates the need for such a mode. It is desperately needed if you're in a windy environment, trying to ride a bike with one earbud in is pretty much a lost cause
@Mr.RueBean Жыл бұрын
That’s what the AirPods do. They used to be really bad at cancelling wind but after an update it seems to do fairly well automatically. However I have had zero success with any earbuds riding a bike. Hi All. As a current XM5 earbud and headphone owner as well as Momentum Tw3 and a ton of other earbuda including Apple. The Xm5 works very very well with LDAC even when locked at 990Kbps. I'm not sure how they keep it to stable. It sounds excellent and is way more comfortable than my Xm4. The transparency mode is about 10% quieter/less real sounding than my wife's airpods pro 2 but it equals and often beats all of the flagship tw buds on all other points. I wish they would patch the transparency mode to be about 10% louder then they would be absolutely perfect. I have dropped them a few times and yes they pop out of the case if you drop them hard. I've had the XM5s for about a month now, and they are by far one of the buggiest pieces of tech I've ever owned. More than half the time I take them out of the case, one or both buds has an issue connecting and they stay in transparency mode (as if only one bud is in). About half the time they do both manage to connect to whatever device I'm using, the EQ and software settings don't kick in and everything sounds terrible. It particularly struggles with multi-point, often randomly switching which device it feels like controlling or playing audio from, which does help keep things fresh and exciting. I have to keep sticking them in and out of the case until they work properly, and even when I do finally get them to work right, the right ear bud's battery drains significantly faster than the left (which I've seen is an issue on previous generations too). Even worse is that while the ergonomic design of the buds makes them incredibly comfortable in your ears, it makes them equally as awkward to handle when you're not wearing them. Because they're shaped to fit your ears (and not the case), and there're no tactile feedback when you pop the buds in the case, you never feel confident both buds are actually in right. More than once I've put them in after a full night of charging only to get a "low battery" warning because one or both were a microscopic fraction of an inch off the contact pads. I feel like a lot of the issues I'm having can be ironed out through firmware updates, but others (like the charging issue) are inherent design flaws which can only be addressed by hardware revisions, but I would not recommend them to anyone as is. Wait for Sony to fix the firmware issues, but also look at other options.

Having purchased Sony Linkbuds about 9 months ago, I have recently faced an issue with the right bud - it became much quieter (2-3 times as it feels) than the left one. After sending them for repair to Sony, I got them back in about 2 weeks. Apparently in the service center they have replaced the right earbud, and now I have buds from different pairs which can't work together (case gives error code with 3 orange flashes) - you can't even connect/pair them to your phone anymore. Resetting the buds doesn't help in this case, so I sent them back again. Two weeks later, I'm gonna pick them up tomorrow and see if Sony managed to fix the buds this time. I would personally prefer to see distortion measurements broken down by harmonic and THD, intermod distortion, and left vs right driver comparisons on all of these. Or at least put it up online if you guys don't wanna muddy up the video with all of these data points.

Had the Bose QCII’s and absolutely hated them. Exchanged them for the Sony WF1000XM5’s and am liking the Sony’s more. The Bose were too touchy on the controls. I’d adjust them in my ear and the music would pause or skip at least 50% of the time. They also didn’t stay in my ears well even when I swapped inserts. Was super disappointed in the Bose. Final straw was 5 months after purchase the right earbud basically died. It was a whisper in volume compared to the left one and resetting and re-pairing the device didn’t help. This is why I always buy the 2 year coverage at Best Buy. Has saved me several times.

Great earbuds - one huge problem - the foam ear tips should be considered as "consumable" not as a spare part. Lifecycle of hygiene use is around 1-2m (need to be replaced quite often as they are fragile and practically impossible to clean). The cost of 1 piece is ~$10 and accessible via Sony service organization only (3rd parties are available but not as good). This makes those earbuds the best, but also the most expensive in-use piece of personal gear i owned.

I have the xm4. I would not buy the xm4, nor the xm5. The xm4 turns on pass-through during calls, and the pass-through is often louder than the person I'm talking to (and sometimes it also boosts the sound it's passing through - maybe in an attempt to make you shout without thinking about it). It also boosts the volume of the caller to a level where it can really hurt my ears in noisy environments. Great for listening to music - terrible for talking. Do not recommend them unless it's just for listening.

The MTW3s are phenomenal but they are hideous and the case is huge. Also no transparency on phone calls. Everything else is arguably better than the XM4s tho
@viniciusfrj Жыл бұрын
@@Mr.RueBean I don't think they are ugly in any capacity, but that is as subjective as it gets, the case is bigger than other phones but far from the biggest and it still fits comfortably in my pockets even when it has to share space with my phone or wallet so I'm also not bothered by it too much, sound quality is amazing as expected of Sennheiser and to me the only downside (and not even a big one) is the static noise you get when using transparency, which gets a lot better when you're actually talking to someone cause then it overpowers the static quite easily

I was using XM4 and they were amazing but too bulky and too heavy. Then I switched to Galaxy Buds 2 Pro which ate btw the lightest earbuds I ever used to the point when Im forgetting I have them on. @naunau311 Жыл бұрын
Honestly given the sound quality the galaxy buds 2 pro provide, I wouldn't switch if I were you, you're not going to get anything better (for sound quality at least) unless you're willilng to drop some serious money on earbuds.

the buds 2 pro are perfectly good and i dont think u should upgrade unless u use multiple devices from different software's like a Samsung phone and a Macbook for the multi-point connection. I had the XM4 and forgot that I paid a lot of money for them. They ended up being tossed into the garbage after not using them for a month or so, because when I resumed using them, they would be 100% then drop to 20% in five minutes. They just no longer charged right. I just purchased Soundcore Aerofit Pro for around the house. They’re fine. I’d like to buy these for the gym, but don’t trust Sony after my last experience. I have the Bose SoundSport Free, but hate the way they pop out of my ear, like some type of colored tumor. So still on the lookout.

My right earbud pops out constantly, so waterproof is useful if it flies I to the sink or worse. I would never exercise with these. After several generations of Bose earbuds and a pair of Samsung, these rank low due to this instability.

Been using these XM5 for about a month now and other than being ridiculously expensive, I have to say I do like them. Great sound, great ANC and isolation, great comfort and battery life. The downsides are that they're a bit finicky to get a proper seal in my ears, takes a while of fiddling around (but once they're in there, they stay in place), also they are a little tricky to get out of the case, and, at least with the large tips, they don't snap back in as nicely and easily as all the other buds I have used so far. Overall I'm happy with them, but think they should be a bit less expensive.

Owned the previous generation, had issues, at least in my country sony only has affiliate repair shops but no actual sony costumer service place, and only one near me can actually offers repairs for earphones, to their credit, they were nice, but after almost a month, they returned me the same device,no real changes made, so, of course, the issues persisted. Mainly battery drainage and one bud sounded way quieter than the other, sent it back for repair, gotta wait another month before i can check if it was properly repaired this time, if not idk what else to do. It’s an utter waste of money. When i bought the firt gen Airpods pro my pair was affected by that firmware update issue and they replaced it immediately, sadly,the battery has naturally degraded over 3 years. This is the result of headphone jacks being removed, because of the batteries needed to run these, tws will always need to be replaced.

Yeah i have these i went from Galaxy Buds original ones, but i am a bit disappointed i am running a galaxy note 20 ultra, but the headphones keep loosing connection to the phone when the phone is in the pocket it keeps dropping it and causing glitching in the sound. Not very impressed by them, the audio quality is a big step up from the buds but the audio cancellation isn't to be fair. And to get that good bas sound you have to have the noise cancelling activated otherwise it just sounds weak. And it my ears no matter what i use of those XS, M, or L isn't the best fit and they want to fall out from my ears when i outside running. And all the extra nanny's ain't worth to fiddling with they just mess around with the buds making them weird. So yeah i am a bit disappointed with them considering how many are praising them. Still better then my buds but not for the price they ask for them.

When testing the ANC performance was transparency mode on/off? After 500Hz there was mention of the ANC being off? I’m assuming that was just a way of saying they were no longer effective (but still technically “on”)? Interesting that there were several areas after 500Hz where the ANC was “louder” than ANC off (2k, 4k, >10k). I wonder if that was because of the hissing sound they present. Thanks for the video!
