I drew a color diagram of all the notes. then from the top string down I would play every G and A. Then every E and F. Every B and C. Then you can figure out all the notes from frets 1-12 easily. From my background in guitar, learning all the notes on the fretboard is like learning to crawl before walking. It is boring, but it will help you in every direction you go with your guitar playing.

I have been playing without any knowledge of the actual notes for 10 years. I always just referred to the notes as numbers and had no clue what a scale was. Now I am trying to remember the notes and this strategy helped me a lot by helping me associate the numbers I already know and can easily pick out without any hesitation with the letters that have given me so much trouble trying to remember. Thank you sir, you are a saint and a scholar

thanks for explaining that one note may have 2 names. i always thought a note was a note and was in relation to a piano keyboard. great lesson in breaking down things into chunks. most people would struggle to remember 12 bits of information but splitting it into 3 chunks of 4-5 bits to remember is much easier.

I like your videos here and I spend 50% of my practice on daily basis in learning Scales in different positions across the fretboard and the rest of my time out of hours duration, I spend in learning my favourite songs as I wanna prepare myself for the parties in end of December this year. I only play acoustic guitar.

Please carry on helping the dears who can't afford a paid master. Charity with clear conscience always refill your stock on the double and with a double. Coaching without asking for bills is a charity for sure. And, now about the grade of conscience, it looks to me that you may soon need a bigger Warehouse to stock the straight from heart blessings of the learners with holes in their pockets.

Awesome lesson. I've played for 10 years now and I watch your lessons both as methods of learning and as something just to watch to keep myself sharp. When I was learning where my notes were i had difficulty learning all of them so I broke it down to two ways. The first was memorizing the intervals between notes, more specifically that not f and c have no flat. Once I got that down, I created what I call the ACE method. Somebody has probably thought of this before myself but I figured it was easier to learn where 3 notes were than all 7 of the naturals, basically learning every other note a, c, and e, with the knowledge of where the others were relative to those 3. The only reason I picked a, c, and e is because it gives it a name that makes it easier to remember. Maybe this could help some people learn and could possibly be a way that yourself or others haven't thought of. Again, thank you for your awesome lessons!!!

Pick a string (E A D G B E) and any note. Then just follow the A BC D EF G pattern. After the 12th fret the pattern repeats from the open note of the 1st string The next octave of any note is ALWAYS 12 steps above the fret that note is played on. On E string C is on the 8th fret (+12) and the 20th. B note is on seventh (+12) and the 19th. Easy trick.
