My birthday twin is correct! I skated at our rink on a Friday night for the 1st time. I was in the middle and my friend said, "come on, skate with me!" I did and it was real good practice. I can't wait to do it again! 😊

The way you just effortlessly skate backwards is like sorcery to me at one month in at 45 years of age. I'm pretty confident going forward now and the simplest 180 transition to me was the jump turn. I can't do any others but I'm waiting on those protective shorts being delivered now as took a couple of concrete slaps to the hip trying it. 😬

I think the same, she skates backwards without thinking, like forward. I know I'll get there, just practice and also very true, skating forward with more and more confidence every day helps develop skating backwards, and do transitions and dare to progress. I watch at teenage girls at my school that look like Deborah going forward and transitions to backwards, without thinking, chatting and hanging around, of course they've started skating as childs, may be 4-5-6 yo. We'll get there!!!

This video is so helpful and very true!! I'd like to share one of my own experiences about this. I have been skating indoor and street skating for 1.5 years now. I do lots of trail skating in the country side of the Netherlands, very beautiful and very fun. But i am on my own most of the time. Now. A couple of weeks ago i wanted to join a group session, street skate. With 400 other people (mostly inline skaters). So even though i'd practiced my T'stop, every once in a while. The urge for me to drill it was never really there. (I was more of a just let myself roll out slowly kind of girl). But yeah, thats impossible if everyone in front of you is hitting the breaks real hard. Caught me by surprise. Is was extremely necessary at that point, for me to just go and do those aweward t-stops i'd been avoiding all this time. Long story short. That city skate lasted for 2 hours and i finished it. With a clean T-stop skill in my pocket as a souvenir ❤

5:49 immediately thought of kids 😂 it’s always the kids who have taken me out by clipping my wheels or I’ve had to literally pick them up to keep us both from dying 😂 they’re out there playing a contact sport I swear lol

Words of wisdom! Additionally, spending time in the fray also trains your brain on the general physics of the pack movement. I would describe it as Spiderman's Spidey-Sense. It makes you aware of where your path is GOING TO BE before it even exists. Thanks, Dirty!

For all the things we learn in the center (backwards, transitions, edges…), we won’t really learn how to apply them until we get around the rink and practice. FVSC, Monday nights! 🥰 Thanks Dirty ❤

I just got a new pair of skates (sized down after having foot slippage after leaning manuals) ive been skating for about a year, and I feel like I'm starting over. Had a rough session today - second on these skates - and this made me feel like I'm going to get through this slump. I dunno if the are too small, or if I just need to get back into the vibe.. thank you for your videos, they keep me inspired to get better! ✨️

Make sure to check your trucks and wheels on the new skates! Maybe they're too tight (or too loose) and that's why you're having a rough time! Hope they break in for you soon.

When I was a new skater, I spent the entire time on the outside of the rink, clinging to the wall 😂

Fantastic content as always and this video is 100% true!!! Thank you for all your inspirational and instructional videos!! I got back into skating two and a half years ago with my daughter after 35 years of not skating and now I work part time at the local rink in skate room/floor guard on adult nights!!

Someone wiped a leg out from under me from behind the last time I was at the rink, I need a rearview mirror to avoid the bad decision makers. Should've known from the drivers where I live, lol. 😅

Hey Dirty! Would you mind doing a video specifically on the differences on skating indoors and outdoors? In particular where your weight needs to be. I find that I’m a much more “Aggressive”skater when I’m outdoors, like I need to really push my feet out and pick up my feet. Whereas when I’m in a rink my feet barely leave the floor. Also I also set my weight on my heels more when I skate outdoors vs kind of mid foot and balls of the feet when I’m indoors. Does this make any sense 😅

Maybe the style I’m going for is awkward and clumsy. Ever think of that?

Love this! Excellent as always! Do you have suggestions or could you do a video on single leg balance? If you already have one I didn’t find, sorry! My single leg balance is pretty good off skates but as soon as I have wheels on my feet and I’m trying to coast down the straightaways on one foot it’s out the window after 1-3 seconds max 😂

Two scariest moments for me in the past year were when, twice, moms in street shoes were very slowly stumbling along the outside lane, a 3-6 year-old on a skate mate with them, lights turned down, and they got full-speed plowed by guys skating backwards, faster thank was safe for conditions and skill level, who didn’t see them. A week ago this happened and the skate mate shattered into three pieces and the very small child got knocked a good distance across the floor. Thank GOD she was just bumped and bruised. Let’s get THOSE folks into the middle. Floor guards really need to get them off the dang walls!
