Its a direct attack to your feelings, so something to be avoided at all costs, being wrong is psychologically such a great loss, that people would do anything to avoid it. I still do it sometimes, but mainly because the world is so draining right now, that sometimes you literally dont have the spare (psychological) change. But there is a good thing about it: im sure im not the only one that gets that gnawing feeling of curiosity. So even when i really dont wanna hear something, see a controversial thumbnail i know im gonna get angry at, curiosity wins in the end, maybe the next day or so. So eventually hatewatching kicks in. And then youre exposed to a new point of view, and the chances that your mind can be changed are no longer zero.

In 2016 I pushed back on a friend when they said “punch a Nazi” on Facebook. I asked them to consider the consequences of inciting violence. They replied back it was ok, because only Nazis would get punched. I asked them who decided who Nazis were, what was the threshold for being called Nazi? The funny thing about left-liberals using the word "fascist" as an insult is that fascism-at least in the classical, Italian sense-is rooted in revolutionary socialism, much like its totalitarian German cousin, National Socialism. The policies, ideals, and methods of Italian fascism are very similar, if not identical, to those belonging to socialism. In fact, in the early days of Mussolini's ascension to power, Marxists and left-communists, namely Antonio Gramsci and Amedeo Bordiga, called themselves "Mussoliniani" in praise of their namesake's ideology. It wasn't until the late 1930s and early 1940s that communists and socialists distanced themselves from Mussolini in particular and Italian fascism in general.
