I was an on board 2014 and that time,I was serving capacity of a third engineer and one of the oilier lost his leg due to unwanted cleaning , at night round I heard suddenly screaming noise from bottom flat, I found his leg stucked on the Main Engine fly wheel still I have doubt that he put his leg on purpose any way I found that his one leg is missing and blood loosing,10 seconds I was blackout and doesn't know what to do, I dragged him away from the danger and I kept the half leg which was bleeding little upper than head and ran away to find some thing, I found some rope and rags with in 20 seconds and put a tourniquet and stop the blood loosing by applying the direct pressure by using rags believe me still he was conscious and talking to me and crying and asking to give him some poison, and that time I need more man power but I can not trust this person right that time may be he will put his head on fly wheel, I took one more rag tighten his hand to pipe and ran to ECR and press the 0 on the phone and announced emergency come to 3rd plat form and on the way I have taken one water bottle and gave him and he is OK without leg, believe me again every body rejected to come after they have seen the condition except two AB's , and I asked from other guys bring me the wrapping plastic papers and I have wrapped his broken leg and with ice we kept in cool rooms,(no direct contact) after that we have taken him to hospital and everything done as per radio medical,we are near to some where Japan and finally he was rescued by a helicopter after 4 hours, in the port I have faced a lot of investigation and I am still happy that I have saved a life on board by using what we are learning from short courses.I heard he has received enough money to continue his life carrier with out leg.Remember safety is always first. God bless .

Dear Friends The most important thing onboard ship is personnel safety ! Few points you should keep in mind and I always tell new joiners specially to my Junior Engineers: 1. Report every incident to duty engineer / officer 2. Never run in engine room / deck 3. You can always ask for helping hands from 2/E or C/O 4. All the jobs to be carried out with a experienced senior certified officer / engineer 5. Tranies are not allowed to tough machinery till the time they are trained to do so 6.While climbing / coming down from vertical ladders be careful 7. Most important thing NEVER go for short cuts . Follow procedures 8. Never hesitate to ask even though your senior shouts on you. Ask 1000 times but dont be in doubt. 9. Conversation should be clear at all times. 10. Proper PPE and should be well aware of escape routes specially working in engine room ! We people spend half of the year at sea to earn money for our family . When we join ship someone will be waiting eagerly at home . No matter at what rank and what department you work but never by pass safety . Join the ship. Work hard. Earn money & return safely back to home !

Dear new joiners always remember your Safety is 1st at all time at all cost. Some one told me "Always try to learn from other mistake never wait for ur mistake to happen and learn from that mistakes because in shipping u never know will you get 2nd chance or not . Safety should be in blood. It should not a show off piece Because on shore some is waiting for you " So All the Best to every one go on board work hard, enjoy life and come back safely in single piece. Rest in peace Dear Shitij😓 we always love u

Though the message conveyed by this vedio was very good and useful for all the mariners, still there were some flaws which one might keep in mind while making such informational vedios 1. No oxygen mask was donned by the rescue team 2. Just listen to the english spoken by the chief at 3:58 2. He doesn't even know to speak to his juniors officers. That was so rude

Sorry to say this but you guys in the shipping are pathetic especially where safety is concerned. The only thing that is strictly followed as to what I have observed is that each and every officer wants respect only because of his rank. Ridiculous idiotic behaviour. Working on the oil rigs is a lot safer and strict where safety is concerned. Respect is obtained on your efficiency at work and safety attitude and not on your rank or post. 😁

Great enactment video 👍, this also shows how merchant marine has become these days with least manpower, and not everyone is equally trained and motivated like the Navy. This is the real challenge for the senior officers to manage everything from ship operation, cargo handling to the resource management. Shipping Industry is so much commercialized that there is no room for error. Nobody wants to take any responsibility after any accidents. That's also one of the reasons this career field is nowadays for the developing countries. The crew Mostly from India, Phillipines, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam and Ukraine. All cheap labour supplying nations.

An engineer officer in charge of a deck cadet officer? Surely not! An inexperienced deck cadet - newly joined on his first ship - is sent alone to investigate a toxic gas leak in a confined space? Surely not! The video implies that the major responsibility in this instance lies with the deck cadet for ensuring his own safety - wrong! The chief engineer officer bears direct responsibility for sending the inexperienced deck cadet alone into a knowingly hazardous situation resulting in the death of the latter. That's what command and responsibility means.

Nice video.. 1st to ye officer ki mistake hai. Jisne directly new cadet ko jane ko kaha. May be janbujkar b kaha hoga. Mostly officer me ye attitude aa jata h ki vo naye person ko kuch malum hai kya vo check karte h. Its Ok but uske saath ek attendtent to bhejna chahiye tha. Accident human errors ki vajah se hi hote h. koi b machinery kharab hone se pehle noise kregi, usi time maintenance kia to accident ni hoga.

Where is the checklist for entering a confined areas? Never enter a confined space/s unless all the safety measures are well taken care of according to Company's SMS. A monthly safety meeting should be carried out including familiarization of safety gadgets, drills is very important, now drill for entering a confined space is mandatory every 2 months. Safety first!
