For me the dishes thing, just chores in general, i also have a lack of motivation due to the constant emotional and mental abuse, so i mainly stayed in my bedroom, due to the really bad depression and anxiety i have, and the physical abuse that caused me to go emotionally and mentally numb. So i just generally didn't have the motivation to do, well, anything. I relate to the second one, but for a different reason. When I'm about to go do the dishes, for example, is because I have motivation to be productive and do something "extra". But when I'm on my way there and one of my parents tells me to do dishes, it kinda ruins it because now I'm required to do it and I'm not being extra productive/"good".

Ok, I'm 61 yrs old... I get it. That's so damn obvious to parents who are aware in life. Here's the perspective from the flip side of the coin... Smart parents watch and observe the behavior of young adults, mainly to identify and prevent costly mistakes, while allowing them to make safe mistakes so they can learn from it. Parents who are passive don't even pay attention to their children's intent and just spew out commands out of convenience...like telling you to do the dishes since they see you are close to the kitchen. Don't get me wrong, I went through what you described growing up and can totally relate. Your awareness will make you a better parent to your kids.

@@WHATISAHANDLEANDWHYDOESITNEED I feel your frustration. Don't let the lack of praise stop you from being who you are. Just change the timing of your good actions. Find opportunities to do tasks when your family least expects it. When they ask who did the dishes, just say that you felt like taking the initiative to help out around the house. They will quickly get the message and have more trust in you being the great kid they didn't notice before. Immediately after they walk in the door, my grandsons tell their grandma that they are going upstairs to take a shower to avoid her annoying command to do so every day. 😂

They also need to understand that if I suddenly start sleeping a lot more and want to be in my room and not going out, I might be depressed or need some time alone so lemme be alone instead of forcing me every now then to go out.🙄 Edit: I posted this in context for parents but I am not talking about my parents. My parents are the best and most understanding in the world. I am talking about my grandma and relatives I am living with for higher education.
@osaru-yo2 жыл бұрын
I don't know why peoppe think being left alone while being depressed is supposed to be a good thing. Also, if they're truly good parents, they'll detect that something is wrong with you, and try to help you.
@quinopabrona48102 жыл бұрын
Might be depressed or need some time alone. Needing some time alone, okay. But if you are depressed, you still want your parents to ignore you? 🤦 There is nothing more lethal than being alone and being depressed. So it's either you communicate with your parents or let your parents communicate with you. Do not think you can solve anything by yourself. Even Batman needs Robin.
@paxman00072 жыл бұрын
You'll grow out of it, and your parents want you out because they know being alone in your room all day is not really helping you, it happened to me and when I grew up and stopped being an obnoxious teenager I understood
@ryderthesinful2 жыл бұрын
@@paxman0007 they'll LIKELY grow out of it, anyway. Puberty is a lot of hormone changes and sometimes there are imbalances which can cause depression that usually goes away once hormone levels stabilize (typically towards the end of puberty). Sounds like what you probably went through. Unfortunately, for some people those chemicals don't ever stabilize or take much longer to do so. I've noticed this more in females, likely because females have a cycle where hormone levels are constantly shifting anyway. But yes, they should get out of their room once in a while, even if only to sit on their porch and get some fresh air.
