I have an SX-99 modified with the newer detector tube. Nice radio along with my Hammarlund SP-600 JX -17 Super Pro.

Thank you for both comments. Sorry for the ignorance, but what did you replace the 6H6 with, and what response did you get? I have had a couple of bad 6H6 but they are used in the 99's and my SX-71 (but not as a detector there).

Nice to see a freq counter. There's still a fair amount of SW activity out there...now that many of the larger broadcasters have packed it in, it's easier to pull in some of the smaller stations that might have otherwise been buried underneath the noise and congestion.

Every time I encounter a dedicated radio person, and their pride and joy radio, I am again reminded and annoyed about RCI & Radio Australia giving up on SW and leaving so much of the band to dictatorships. These were highly respected stations taken off the air by foolish federal politicians & their civil service. Certainly they did not respect how radio can penetrate and offer choice/news coverage in distant lands. Communist China & Russia along with Cuba have kept with Short Wave. And yes China & Cuba are still Communist folks. Russia pure crass dictatorship for the few. Make no mistake about this.
