Russian military propagation beacon "M". These Single Letter Beacons were assigned the ENIGMA ID of "MX", this specific example is of the M beacon, sending the letter "M" in Morse code. This transmission is believed to serve as a propagation beacon. These stations are sometimes grouped and discussed with Numbers Stations, however they are not Numbers Stations, they are military oddities.
This M beacon is on the frequency of 4558.4 kHz. This beacon transmits on the frequencies of 3594.4 kHz, 4558.4 kHz, 5154.4 kHz, 7039.4 kHz, 8495.4 kHz, 10872.4 kHz, 13528.4 kHz, 16332.4 kHz, and 20048.4 kHz.
Recorded at my location in the Mohave Desert of California, USA, on 17 October, 2021, at about 1323 UTC.

No, this, and the other Letter Beacons do not change. There are sometimes short errors, when the signal may be messed up, missing dots or dashes, sending the wrong letter, etc. But in general, for year son end, if you tune to this frequency, 4558.4 kHz, and natural propagation supports you hearing a signal from Magadan, Russia, you will hear this signal. That factor, you will hear it is propagation supports you hearing it, is a key to its probable use. The use of this, and similar signals, is almost certainly as a propagation indicator. These signals are transmitted on 9 different frequencies distributed across the HF spectrum. By tuning to them and noticing which ones you can, or cannot, hear at a given time you can predict what frequencies will work for you to hear more important messages from the Magadan area.
