She's mixed race like an 80 yr old lady in my village who also speaks the local language.Her Dad was Italian too. The Italians were POWs that were brought in by the British and put in camps across Kenya, Kericho, Muranga, Nakuru etc...they were instrumental in building roads and churches in those areas. When they were freed many went to do manual labor in some British farms and some started their own businesses- I know a family in Eldoret, others went back to Italy.

Sadly the Italian prisoner of war, left many mixed race children in the 1940s. My mother who is the first born was also born of an Italian father and kikuyu mother. The rest of her 10 siblings are purely Kenyan. Growing up my mother wished she was purely African. She didn't know her father. Her grandmother told her about the little church that her father built with other Italian soldiers. Very sad, she always longed to met hum.
