Mr. Justin Johnson. I have to thank you for the absolute happiness and joy your music gives my father. He's a great man who's fighting cancer. When he 1st heard you playing blues, he listened to you play from 4:30 am until after 10:00 PM that night. He played a guitar for over 40 yrs. He can't feel anything w his fingers anymore. He grieves from this. My grandfather used to play for San Tana and others. You have truly blessed my dad. Thank you so much. I would very much like to correspond w you about my dad - Command Major Troy Whitfield Lane III. I can't in this forum. He's so important to me. I'd like to be able to get bbn him to see you in person somehow. He had over a 2 hour operation last Wen. After he returned home, he spent 8 hours listening to you. He even had my twin brother and myself get his albsnez electric guitar and amp out for him. He played blues with you for hours. Got a question Justin , this sounds so different than when you use the ceramic slide, to my ears anyway. Question is, does the sound depend on the guitar and strings or the slide itself ? That was such a nice crisp sound, loved it by the way. I'm just curious and trying to understand a little more. By just listening to your videos I've learned a lot about the music that I love and your style. So if it's a stupid question I get it if ya don't wanna answer. Just love the music most of all. The guitar, the strings, and the slide all play a part in the tone. The surface of the slide changes the tone a lot (depending on how smooth it is) and the density and size of the slide affect the sustain on the note with the slide. The shot glass sounds smooth and vocal because it has a smooth surface and the shot glass has more mass than a regular glass slide, so the sustain is nice. I have a signature ceramic slide which has a nice smooth surface (like glass), but it is more dense so it has even more sustain than the shot glass.
